Woke up this morning to find that some guy named Charoensuk had edited my sandbox page to add solar-panel advertisements in Thai. I'm calling spambot.

As of this writing, however, the changes have been reverted (one jhubert beat me to the punch — thanks, whoever you are!) and the spammer's account has been deleted. This post is just for record-keeping, and because I suspect I wasn't the only one vandalized before somebody took out the trash.

Looking at Recent Changes, they also hit the sandboxes of MurderOfRavens, Starry Sky, Salman Corbette, and ShazakG, all reverted by jhubert.

Perhaps it's time to revisit the user permissions on sandbox? Maybe change it so that only site members and/or staff members can edit other peoples' pages? I see no real reason why the sandbox should be open to editing by everyone, to be honest.

Thirding. I'm not even sure why anyone outside the site, save for banned or underage users maybe, would even want to use our sandbox.

There's actually a small portion of new users that make Sandboxes before joining, as I found a few when looking through Recently Created in the Sandbox. Though I guess the fact that they aren't members is for other obvious reasons.

I'm pretty sure that if we restrict it to site members only, it won't cut them off from their sandboxes, since they still created the page. We'll be lessening the amount of pointless sandboxes of people who can't get in if we restrict it now, so I guess I'm for it.

… no, that's not what I meant. I'm saying that only members of the Sandbox Wiki — which as far as I know are only a select few staff and some vet members — would have the ability to edit pages that they didn't create. We would still have open access to the Sandbox Wiki, you just can't touch other peoples' pages unless you're a Sandbox Wiki member.

I somehow completely forgot what you were suggesting and got thinking about what Azzleflux said. I'm all for your suggestion, preferably having editing restricted to staff members.

I've heard concerns raised over collaborative works done on the sandbox. How would these be handled?

They ask, and a Sandbox admin adds them as members of the Sandbox Wiki. Like I mentioned above. :)

@Photo — It's not a huge hassle, someone just has to fiddle with the Security->Permissions settings for the Wikidot control panel.

Done a touch of research, he's an admin of the Spambot Death Wall, a wikidot apparently made to delete/ban spambot sites and users.

To clarify, jhubert is the admin of the Spambot Death Wall, not Charoensuk. :)
