User KeepinItReal, in AtPAYaQ, recently asked a user the following question:

If you had access to SCP-1004 IRL, how long would you spend watching it? Be honest.

For reference, 1004 is 'Factory Porn'.
This was brought to attention in 17. I staffposted:

KeepinItReal, this post is unnecessarily sexual. Although it may not have been intended as such, asking a question of a sexual nature like that unprompted is quite creepy. Please do not do this again.
Please do not reply to this unless you are staff.

They've only three posts in their history, and the other two are quite benign, so hopefully this is just a one-time deal. Hopefully.

Was this really necessary? Was there any indication this was actual creeping and not, you know, an actual joke?

…I, uh… I have to agree, though. I'm not sure if this is creepy? I'd really like other input on that, but this was my first reaction too.

A lot of people aren't good at confrontation. From general view, I feel that the user was not intending the question to be creepy… but since the askee felt it was creepy, it was enough to warrant a 'Hey, sexual questions can creep people out, don't do that.' Which is what happened. He's not being given any stigma by not having gotten it. A lot of people don't get such things. But, now he knows, and hopefully will not repeat.

I would consider it tantamount to asking about another user's (hypothetical) masturbation habits. And I can see how that would be off-putting.

I wouldn't warn for it, but I think a staff post is fine. Maybe wouldn't have used the word 'creepy', though I dunno what I would say.

The user was asking a sexual question of another user. I didn't see it as creepy but I can imagine feeling differently with slight changes in phrasing.

That? We don't actually need to allow.

There doesn't need to be punishment, but I think "don't ask sexual questions of other users" is an okay rule to have. And we can add that to policy. Because it can totally be a problem even if it's not actually or actively creepy.

If the change gets made, though, I don't want people seeing KeepinItReal as "the guy who ruined it for everyone".

…I really hope not? I actually think this is a conclusion we'd likely have come to anyway which is why I'm saying it might be "obvious".

(I could still be wrong of course but regardless I don't think that this person just ruined all this for everyone or something.)

Well, we've called people out for doing this in the past, IIRC; I think this incident only precipitated the policy discussion because we're already talking policy at the moment. That may not stop people from blaming KeepinItReal, though; any ideas on how to prevent that? Maybe a mention, when we add it to policy, that this is just codifying a thing we've been doing for months?

Just going to note that it's been brought up in staffchat that this user's shown a habit of posting less than helpful comments on coldposts, and that's been undocumented because those comments are usually deleted with the articles.

Come on dude… at least try to get some feedback before you post something like this. Make a page in the Sandbox, ask for advice in the Forums, familiarize yourself with SCPs so you don't post something like this again.

Throwing this up for records keeping. He's been called out in discussion pages, but if this becomes a more obviously recurrence, then we move to official warnings and bans.
