I'm the one who made this suggestion, and I fully acknowledge that I may have been excessively reactionary, for the following reasons:
(1) I am incredibly sick of the fact that we have a massive creeper problem, even after Wilt, and after years of the site's existence. We seem to punish people for the silliest things, but creeping on people? Gosh, maybe it was a misunderstanding. Fuck, even in our current chat guide we say asking for nudes is only bannable if you keep it up. (We're absolutely going to fix that, but the fact that it's been that way since forever unremarked upon says a lot.)
(2) I didn't know it was a minecraft thing until Troy pointed it out.
Further, I had to deal with some truly awful drama yesterday, so I left Mann completely in the lurch to deal with this on his own. And I didn't even read this topic til today. I'm guessing he assumed there was consensus and went with it because he wanted to help and knows Troy and I were horribly busy either for staff or IRL reasons.
I hope that explains the context of the situation, and I apologize for the inconvenience that I caused.
Finally, if he'd been named "PrinceTroll", we'd have not even accepted his app, and likely blocked the user. And frankly, I'd rather have trolls than creepers here. Because trolls can be funny.
Knowing it was a Minecraft thing… makes me feel pretty fucking silly, but it's hard for me to feel guilty for making the suggestion in the first place.
