So I just got the following PM from user Tuckerevolution (who may have PMed other Admins, I dunno).

Hello, I am a local author in Arkansas and I was wondering how I could get permissions to use the concept of SCP Foundation in a novel I am writing. The concept is refined and solid, I simply would like to use the SCP Foundation as an action point, a plot device, and spread the word about this very interesting concept you and your team have thought up. I love what you and your team of admins have done here and I would like to get permissions to use the Foundation in my novel.

Get back to me if you can, I'm sure you are busy. You can call my company at [phone number]. I work for [publishing company] and they would love to hear from you. You can ask for Mr. [real name] or just let them know why you are calling and I am sure they will let me know. Other wise you are more than welcome to contact me on here.

I'm preparing a PM with the standard "make sure they're aware of the implications of the CC license" stuff, but wanted to see if anyone else could think of anything else we should tell them.

EDIT: Note that Tuckerevolution isn't an actual site member yet, as of this comment.

A different person this time: username State of Terror.

He/They represent a group trying to set up a SCP-themed haunted house at State College of Pennsylvania and had started a couple of threads¹ seeking input as to what the community thinks might be good SCPs to use, as well as wanting to know how to go about getting permission et al. I had previously weighed in on the thread letting them know about CC and what they needed to do to be compliant and they seemed to understand. Last night I received the following PM:

Hello my name is [real name], I'm one of the owners of the planned State Of Terror haunted attraction in State College, PA. Recently, we sent out messages to all of the authors of the SCP's that we had wanted permission to use; unfortunately we didn't get many replies. As a site administrator we would like to ask your permission to use the following SCP's: 096,106,173,610 and 682. All SCP's and SCP foundation related works will be properly attributed and direct links will be set up where possible. We hope that this is something the community can enjoy and would like your feedback. Please reply as soon as possible.

I sent the following response:

Thanks for trying to get permission from all the authors! I've investigated the ones you mention and see that all those authors are either now absent or at least have very low activity, so I understand why you weren't able to get in contact with them. As an Admin of the wiki, I'm giving you permission to use them.

Just remember what I previously told you about CC: somewhere in the haunted house (either as a readily available handout or a clearly visible sign) you need to have something noting that the material is based on the SCP Foundation wiki with the links to both the main page and each individual SCP you use clearly listed. The handout/sign also needs to note that the material of the haunted house is licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution/ShareAlike 3.0 (CC BY-SA 3.0) license. This means that anyone who wants to make derivatives of your work have the right to do so, so long as they inherit the same license and provide a clear reference to the original material.
