Rumetzen: While rumetzen's a great guy, my one big problem with him is that he had not been around for quite a long time prior to the last two weeks or so. While I completely understand why this is, it makes me leery of promoting him to SS only to have another long absence strike him.
In addition, because he's been gone for so long, I don't feel I have a good grip on…well, what kind of a person he is: how he treats newbies, how he responds to critique, how and how much he debates staff issues, how he gives critique, and so on and so forth. One of the things that I believe Senior Staff should have, above all else, is a love for the site, its material, and its future: and, looking at rumetzen and his decisions over the past few months, I don't see anything except for empty space. And I don't like that empty space in a nominee; his entire personality could have changed in this time and nobody would know until he was promoted to SS.
As it stands now, I do not feel comfortable promoting rumetzen without seeing more from him both in chat and on the site. If this changes, as I hope it does, I would be delighted and honored to vote for his promotion to Senior Staff.
Silber: I voted yes for Silber last time, and I'm voting yes for him again. He's an excellent writer, a good critiquer, and someone who, returning to my definition of good Senior Staff nominees, has respect for the site and where it's going. I feel he would use his staff position responsibly, if not a little sparingly, and would, all in all, be a good choice.
Azzleflux: I am voting no on Azzleflux for much the same reason I am voting no on rumetzen: I just have not seen enough of him. I understand he's been more visible for the past month or so; but a period of greater activity shortly before Staff promotions isn't enough time to 1) get a solid grasp of their personalities and behavior again and 2) establish a firm, active presence on the site.
As with rumetzen, I just have not seen enough of him recently to determine if he would be a detriment or a boon to the site. This is possibly just me: after all, I haven't been the most active of staff either; however, when other users are also mentioning his long period of inactivity, I become that much more leery of promoting them. And, on a larger level, maybe this whole preoccupation with recent activity is also just me: both Azzle and rumetzen are probably the same people they were before, after all. However, there really is no way to be sure without more time.
So, just as with rumetzen, I would rather see more of Azzle. Once I do, I will be delighted to vote him into a Senior Staff position.
Gaffney: While Gaffney has been around a lot, he hasn't really participated in many staff discussions. Without seeing more from him in staffchat and in staff discussions, I'm leery of voting yes. If I were to see more activity from him in staffchat during site discussions, I'd be delighted to have him join the Senior Staff ranks.
MisterFlames: I'm pretty sure that Flames pretty much has spent more time as a member of the site than most active SS combined, and, really, he deserves it. He's a thoughtful person who will…well, will do what he's been doing for as long as I've been here: hang around and talk about the site. What more is there to say?
FlameShirt: My opinion mirrors Roget's here. Since he's off in college, I do not feel that his activity levels will be able to justify a promotion to Senior Staff at this time. If this changes, I'll be delighted to vote him in.
