Promotions to Moderator

This is the July Moderator Promotion Thread.

Note: This thread is not for recommendations. If you feel that someone should be up for promotion, please PM me so I can add them to my list. This list is based off of the most popular suggestions for promotions among current staff members and site members.

This is still not a perfect process, but we've made some progress. Promotion requires a 2/3rd majority. Currently, we are staring down the barrel of the following promotions:

For each user you vote NO for, the administration would like to strongly encourage you to explain your reasons why. These people are obviously popular choices, or they wouldn't be there, so explaining your objections is the surest way to help them overcome the problems you see them having and aid them in becoming a choice you would support.

Important: If you would "neutral vote" for someone, please instead vote No. If they haven't made a strong enough impression on you that you would vote yes, then they don't need to be a staff member. People who insist on neutral voting will have their votes counted as negatives.

Zyn: About the only thing I can say against Zyn is that she can be mildly susceptible to groupthink, when it comes to being excessively harsh on users. She's got some elitism potential she should look out for. But she's been good at mitigating this, and it's more been a concern than an actual problem.

And additionally, she is ludicrously trustworthy, helpful, and hardworking, as well as managing to be better behaviorally than 90% of senior staff, again including myself. And while she is not very active in 19, she's very active on the wiki, constantly helping out newbies. She has already made herself invaluable and receives my strongest recommendation.

Roget: Like Zyn, Roget has recently been excessively harsh on users, except he's carried it much farther than Zyn has. He needs to exercise power with a lighter hand than he's recently indicated he might, and ensure that he doesn't let biases or groupthink sway him. And recently he's at least given me the impression that he's (albeit unconsciously) let prior bad experiences with users color his disciplinary actions towards them, which is not good. He's also demonstrated occasional diplomacy issues — people have misunderstood him on numerous occasions, and he's only recently become better at addressing those rather than dismissing them.

Luckily, Roget is aware of these issues and has continually made efforts to address them. And additionally, these flaws are mitigated by the fact that recently pretty much everyone else in Super Secret Staff Chat has been sharing them too — something in the air, I guess? To be honest, I see most of his issues as the side effect of spending a lot of time in staff chat. Of all those I've noticed exhibiting these issues, he's been the most active about solving them.

Additionally, Roget is simply a brilliant staff member. Also like Zyn, he is extremely helpful and active and hardworking. Both users make a concerted effort to help new people; basically, anything I said for Zyn goes for Roget too, with the addition that Roget is active both onsite and in site19, where he has been a rather excellent operator (minus aforementioned harshness issues, which, again, he's acknowledged). I strongly support his elevation to moderator. Yes, I pointed out many flaws he possesses, but the fact that I still strongly support his elevation should express how strong my confidence is in him.

Enthusiastic yes for Zyn, tentative but well-earned yes for Roget. He's overcome most of the objections I've had of his behavior that I've seen. And I think it's time we finally let Name have his/her time in the sun, too.

What moose said, except the skills Roget still needs to work on (diplomacy, not being heavy-handed, being (and appearing) more objective), I think need to be worked on a bit more while as Staff, before making him a Moderator. Yes, he's definitely moving in the right direction, but just not quite where I'd like to see a new Mod.

I can also see how the vote count is going, so: Roget, I would love for you to prove me wrong.
