User DoctorDiscover not only coldposted a draft and stated in comments "I can't tell if the downvotes are malicious or not…" and "I'm going to expand this. I wanted to see how it initially was recepted." (demonstrating a lack of understanding of the required reading…) but also seems to have created a new wiki that just links back to the SCP mainsite.

The wiki name is "Scp Foundation Research" and the url is http://www.scp-wiki.com/ which seems to redirect to the mainsite, which ends in .net. I'm currently looking into this.

Also of note, the user in question currently received a 7-day ban (for being excessively frivolous and ban evading): http://05command.wikidot.com/forum/t-657715/doctordiscover-tigercarp

To explain what is going on here:

DoctorDiscover's profile lists him as an Admin of a site called "Scp Foundation Research" with the url "www.scp-wiki.com". This appears to be scary! but it's actually just some typical stupidity on Wikidot's behalf.

The domain registration for scp-wiki.com is actually owned by Sophos, and was set up in 2011. Currently it's just a simple redirect to scp-wiki.net.

But then how is DoctorDiscover listed as an admin for this site?

It turns out, you can add a "custom domain" to any wikidot site, which just makes wikidot configure their servers to accept requests for that domain and point them to your wiki.

However, wikidot does no confirmation that you actually own the domain that you set up as a custom domain. You could set your custom domain to www.google.com and wikidot would happily accept it. This wouldn't actually WORK, because the DNS records for www.google.com don't point to wikidot, but hey, knock yourself out.

In DoctorDiscover's case, though, he happened to point his custom domain to www.scp-wiki.com, which is ALREADY pointed at wikidot's servers, and redirects to us. The only reason it appears to "work" is because it happens to already be pointing to wikidot.

Short form: DoctorDiscover is an idiot and Wikidot is incompetent. Two great tastes that go great together.

Nothing to be really concerned about here from a technical perspective but we should give him a solid slap on the wrist.

After a series of PMs, got this reply from him:

Oh, I was going to make a place for research about this stuff, but I changed my mind after it's creation. If I do make a place for research, it'll be on Wikia.

No harm, no foul, but I'm not entirely comfortable with the scp-wiki.com link/redirect listing him as an administrator. He seems to be willing to cooperate with staff though.

I'd like a consensus regarding whether or not to ask him to take the site down? From what I've seen, he just has the default startup pages created; no original content.

I personally am leaning towards asking him to take the site down (like I said, I'm not entirely on board with the idea that he might be able to masquerade as a SCP wiki admin), but I'd like to confirm with the rest of staff first (admins and mods, please weigh in?).

I'm pretty sure this display of incompetence as a whole (unable to understand banning, unable to understand staff post…) well… it should at least merit a revoking of membership on the foundation.

Discover, I'm going to have to ask you to refrain from asking people to "give the article a chance", seeing as WIP drafts are not supposed to be posted to the mainsite. Please keep discussion focused on the content of the writing itself.

As has already been mentioned before, if you haven't already, make sure to create a sandbox page for yourself.

Any drafts you write up should be placed there and shown to the IRC chat and/or the drafts forums for feedback prior to a mainsite post. You'd avoid a lot of negativity by doing this (and you'd also be following the rules).

Also, as per the rules, please do not respond to staff posts if you're not a member of staff.

I honestly think that this guy has become incompetent to the point that a 24 hour time-out is necessary. He just does not get the wiki, and he's shitposting up a storm.

"I'm a member of staff, and every time a staff member asks for a stop on a topic of discussion, they title the post with "Staff Post", "Mod Post", or "Admin Post" to indicate that non-staff members should pay attention to the comment because it addresses a topic that should cease to be discussed.

A lot of newer members have responded to such posts without knowing that doing so is against the rules stated in the required reading, so several staff members have taken to cautioning readers just in case. …maybe my sentences are too wordy, bleh. I, at this point, support a 24-hour ban. The guy needs to chill.

I support a 24 hour ban. He seems overexcited, and unwilling to learn site procedure or be flexible to the requests and instructions of staff. A 24 hour site-ban and 7 day chat shows that we expect the kid to self-regulate.

As per the imitator wiki, well, it is troubling. I'd suggest we start with a simple request to take it down. He's already indicated a desire to distance himself from wikidot, and the most the menacing thing about it just that it exists. He hasn't really done anything with it, and it just redirects back to us.

And if later on he uses it malicious, to try to confuse people or claim more authority or pretend to be the foundation, well, isn't that what the license/site admin tools are for?

Agreeing with Snorl and Bright. I'm also a bit concerned with the imitator site. Though, where is it actually a wiki? So far as I can tell, there's nothing there but a redirect to our site. Is there an actual site or wiki he's built that lists him as an admin?

If you look at his profile, it lists him as the admin of that particular wiki. I've tried several of the links, and they all seem to redirect to the mainsite though.
