Short version: High schooler is writing a screenplay for an assignment, and would like our permission. I steered him to the licensing guide and asked for contact information from his teacher or adviser.
Hello Sir,
My name is Nicolaus [REDACTED] and I am a Senior at [EXPUNGED]. I am doing my senior project on writing a screenplay for a short film and i would like permission to use one (or more) of your SCPs in this screenplay. I would give you a copy of the script and i would make sure i would site the rights of the SCP and the SCP foundation to you. I plan on adapting the idea of 87 and 87-b into my own story.I would like to hear from you soon
thank you very much for your time sir
-Nicolaus. [REDACTED] ( ablondeguy )
My response:
Well, Nicolaus, for what it's worth, you do have my permission, provided you follow the license. You don't actually need it, so long as you do, honestly, but we do appreciate people asking.
The Licensing Guide explains things pretty well, but to summarize, you have to do the following:
Release your movie under the Creative Commons license, with the same provisions as the SCP Foundation's. So, other people can use your work in their own projects.
Include the link for the Foundation, as well as individual pages used.
Give attribution to the original author. In the case of 087, that would be Zaeyde.
Do you have any contact information for your teacher or adviser? Just want to have a point of contact with your school.
