If anyone hasn't seen this post on the SCP forums, take a look. As detailed in the links off-site, a lot of the members in there have taken it into their own hands to harass this person off-site about her work. Yes, it's below our standards. No, it's not acceptable to rip on them about it on Youtube and DeviantArt.

I have, with Clef and Mann's approval, posted a public apology to her DeviantArt account here. I believe Mann is also posting to Youtube. An official Stop to the forum thread might be helpful as well, or at least a strongly worded official warning.

Seconded. Off-site harassment/trolling is disgusting and shouldn't be tolerated. Do we not have a policy against it at the moment?

Only this in Site Rules:

1. You are to be a mature member of the community. Heated arguments, vandalism, trolling, and general immaturity, including intentionally writing badly to provoke a reaction, will not be tolerated.

However, that could easily be misinterpreted to mean "on this website only", so we will want to change the wording I think.

Obviously we aren't looking to police people's conduct across the entirety of the internet. But when it comes to things that actually relate to SCP and how people view us as a community, members need to be held to this particular standard anywhere that could or would reflect on us.

We can't force them to behave, but we can and will define whether or not they are a part of the community dependent upon what they do elsewhere.

Mm, there's also this:

The following offenses may result in a permanent ban at staff discretion:

• Blackmailing or extensive harassment of a user, group of users, or the site as a whole.

Again, it doesn't specifically say off-site harassment is grounds for banning, but (a) it shouldn't and (b) that's wthat the "other horrible things" at the end of that same list is there for, to cover situations we neglect to specify.

Mm. Agree and disagree. The meaning implied in that line is "user of this website, group of users on this website, or the site as a whole". I agree it SHOULD mean other websites too, but being realistic that's not what was in mind when that was written.

"Other horrible things" is a good point though. That covers any number of possible situations, such as if we discovered a current user was a serial killer in real life, or they took all our content and rehosted it elsewhere without attribution, or they started a major world war, etc.

Anyway this is just chewing the fat. It'll take a one-line entry to cover this stuff in the future.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't stalking and harassing the final straw that got Kondraki demoted and banned from chat? We have a precedent in place, I think.

I'm for a banning people who do this.

I read Mack's comment that she left on the DA page, and she references that. And yes, agree that off-site stalking/harassment is grounds for banning

I agree with there being precedent that would justify taking such action. I do think we should state it overtly somewhere in the rules nonetheless, though.

I agree. Having a clear harassment policy is very important.

On some LiveJournal communities I've been on, they also had a rule where, if you posted a link to someone's personal journal, you had to include a reminder of "Personal journal, do not troll". We could employ something similar, where if you're linking to something offsite that's of poor quality, you should include a "Leads offsite. Do not harass."

Didn't see the comments but I agree we should not be doing this and we should do everything we can to discourage it. Even if it's just a flood of people expressing their dislike, that is still bad and makes us look bad. Keep the expressions of dislike to our forums here.

I'm K.P. Crow, one of the Admins of the SCP Foundation.

I'd like to apologise on part of many of the commenters from the SCP wiki who went above and beyond normal criticism and began harassing, trolling and attacking you directly. I'd like to state that this is not the kind of behaviour we at the SCP Wiki endorse, and from now on, those who participate in such actions from now on will be banned from the wiki.

I appreciate that you are dealing with this in a more mature manner now, and we resolve to do the same from now on.

Please don't ban the one that goes by BarondePencier on youtube. We've talked over privet messages he has been respectful and very considerate about this whole thing.
