Posted a thread that was titled "SCP Idea that is meta and maybe a ToS violation", or something to that ring. Basically wanted to install a code that turned downvotes into upvotes, as a gimmick SCP page. Problem being, that has a high chance of getting Wikidot pissed off at us.

Acting as witness at the time the thread was deleted. For the record, myself and xiao asked dex to carry out the actual deletion because the admins had all literally just left.
I'm not actually certain whether we have a procedure for thread deletion on the forums. To my knowledge, it's never needed to be done except as cleanup. In this case, I'd say what was done was more than warranted as a precautionary measure, especially since a number of nonstaff users had actively started a petition vote to ask staff to delete the thread.

Now, I don't think seibei deserves any sort of disciplinary action at this time. Troy kiboshed his idea pretty swiftly, as was upright, and he replied respectfully and proceeded to not do that terrible thing. That said, I do suggest someone sensible send him a PM and ask him to talk to staff before making a public suggestion like that in the future, so we don't have kids putting beans in their noses.

As for the idea itself, let's not do it, even on a "burner" wiki. Yes, meta SCPs can be highly effective — look at the Final Countdown, or I am a Toaster — but we need limits. Eviscerating the usual process of critique is, to my mind, a pretty good example of Things That Are Not Done. And that's leaving aside the possibility that Wikidot will object to us hacking their vote process, even if it would be pretty white-hat. Overall, I just think it can't end well.
Don't get me wrong, I don't mean we should test it as a thing to do to be meta. I mean we should test it as a thing that if it works we need to get off of wikidot yesterday, because it opens the possibility that our entire system of quality assurance can be externally affected by anyone with know how and an agenda.
Hm, that's sort of what I meant by the white-hat hacking comment. I agree that if this vulnerability exists, it should be fixed immediately. I just worry that Wikidot might not take kindly to our actively demonstrating it; I suspect their people would appreciate a bug report more than an actual hack. Maybe we should just ask Seibai to find it, document it, and either send himself (herself?) to Wikidot or help us send to Wikidot. And then, if they don't listen, well, then we can maybe start considering a demo.

I do not think the thread should have been deleted. That's something that should have stuck around, locked, and linked to when people asked about it. This seems to have been a minor error of judgement, and I think I already made my case about it in chat.

I saw that thread before it got deleted, and yeah, it seems to me like it was just a stupid question/idea that wasn't quite thought through.

I'm fairly certain Mac would back me up, but I don't think we're not allowed to "white hat" hack on WikiDot. It would technically be a Federal crime (assuming U.S. hackers). That aside from violating the SCP-WIKI agreement. They'd have every right to kick us off in a heartbeat. And would - the environment REALLY isn't all that stable.
If we have a concern, there are official channels we can use to bring it up. I suggest Mac do it as she speaks their language.

This is actually why I wanted the thread to be deleted; if a wikidot admin had seen that original post present on our site they would have been very unhappy with us.
