VAE posted a thread about the current amnestics discussion which can be found here.
Multiple users posted to the effect of "make whatever points you make, but stop being a dick." Vae ignored it, and I modposted asking them officially to cut the BS in response to:
> No. It's an old term, and while the term "amnestic" may be older, it's perfectly plausible for an organization inventing terminology for imaginary drug to use a term later deemed incorrect.
It would be plausible for an organization to invent its own terminology. It isn't plausible for them to invent terminology that is in effect a grammar error.
For comparison - the terms "cosmonaut" or "astronaut" technically have suggested meanings based on distance of flight from earth but in practice former eastern block uses the first and USA the second. This is plausible. What's implausible is extensive use of "astronaught" in official documentation because one of the lead scientists couldn't spell and the name stuck.
> Unilaterally editing older articles because of an incredibly minor technical detail that bothers you for no rational reason is silly and I will not support it.
> If this is done, I want to be to known that I do not want SCP-3855 edited in any way, as it's an example of what I just stated.
What an adorable example of motivated reasoning. Correcting a terminology error is a silly and petty thing to do with a bit of bold writ on top, but your insistence on keeping the mistake in your works is absolutely reasonable and not at all suggestive of it actually being a big issue.
This post.
Modpost:
Alright, that's about enough.
Zyn was polite in correcting below, but this is finally crossing in to blatant dickery.
You're breaking rule 1 flagrantly, and I'm telling you now, officially, to stop. You can respond to whatever points someone makes, but the condescending tone such as:
> What an adorable example of motivated reasoning.
Needs to stop.
VAE was given the benefit of the doubt, and two admins, and two mods telling them, without staffposting, to cut it out. It's now been staffposted. Please keep an eye out on this thread.
