Just wanted to keep everyone updated in my life, since I'm getting really close to completing the masters.
*First, guess what everyone: I'm engaged! I'm really excited, but we have no date planned yet. It'll be a few years before we can get that worked out — we're not even in the same country. She's current working on a research assistant on climate change at BRAC university in Dhaka, Bangladesh, and I'll be heading off to work on my Ph.D soon. But still my fingers are crossed that we'll be able to get things worked out within two or three years.
*Speaking of the Ph. D: I'll be attending SUNY — University of Buffalo for my Ph.D. It'll take a few years, but maybe I can be the first actual doctor this site generates. I have an offer of a teaching assistanceship, and tuition waived up to the New York state resident rate. So I'll be rolling in the mad cash (ha).
*I finished the first final draft of my thesis earlier this morning, and submitted it to my committee for correction. It's entitled "Theory of the Stark effect of lithium donors in silicon". It's concerned with theoretical predictions of the effect of static electric fields upon electrons orbiting isolated lithium atoms embedded inside a silicon lattice. The work is in context for helping to understand how electric fields might be used to manipulate electron spin states for quantum computing using lithium doped silicon. You know, if you were interested…
*My thesis defense is April 5th, next Thursday. I'll let you know how it goes, but I don't anticipate too many problems.
Hopefully once all this school work is done for the summer, me and the site will be sharing some more time together.
