Started apparently by a bunch of goons from the SA thread. Personally, I think we should have absolutely nothing to do with it, and tell them to have some form of disclaimer regarding our complete disconnection from it there. I would personally like to see it gone entirely, but since that's not entirely possible, the above solution sounds like a good alternative.

Essentially, I'm not at all comfortable with the SA community taking something from our wiki and running with it, with no oversight from us. Personally, I think this could go absolutely horribly and make the SCP wiki look bad by association.

this isn't the first site to be constructed in such a manner. I'd wait 'til they've got more than a couple forum posts before being offended.

opening up some communication is a good idea, though. if it turns out well, there's not much reason we couldn't be involved with it.

See, here's my problem. The SA types have been blatantly criticizing how we manage the wiki, and have said more than once that we "have no quality control." Adding that attitude to the fact that it's SA, I'd rather scream at them than open communication.

After all, Bright did just open a discussion to review the rules for the site. It seems like this might be a good time to think about how we do things and what we can do better.

We're so mainstream that we have a fansite now!! I don't see why we need to be so negative about this development ._. It's not like goons destroy everything they take an interest in.

Just giving it a once-over, it looks fine to me. It notes that it's an homage, the rules page is reasonable, and what's there is pretty good. Actually thinking about joining it.

I actually think this thing is a neat idea. It's a new format, a new method, and a new thought process being brought to bear. That, and there's nothing we can actually do about it. I'd rather support them and let them try to make something great than say 'Fuck them' and get exactly what Raven is worried about.

On a side note, I did join their site. If they want help, I'm willing to provide it. If they don't, then I'd like to at least watch.

The best approach is to wait and see. If it's good, quiet approval. If it's bad, we ignore it.

There's really nothing we can do about it in any case. Creative Commons means they have all the permission they need to create derivative works. So long as the guy doesn't start running off MC&D t-shirts and selling them, he's not breaking any rules. We can't make him do anything, and honestly, I don't think it would be a good idea even if we could.

I do like the basic format he's come up with, and he doesn't seem like an idiot.

Who knows? This might be cool. If it isn't, we just make it clear we're not involved. If it is, more power to him. Maybe we can work with him in the future.

Actually, even if he did, he's still not breaking any rules. The site's license is Creative Commons; this allows commercial works based on it. There's a license that disallows this, Creative Commons Non-Commercial. I suggested we switched to it the last time discussion came up and still do, but I digress.

… crap, between all the bitching I do about Wikipedia and Cracked and TV Tropes and … I just suddenly realized that I hate the vast majority of the internet's content.
