This vote has now concluded with 20/38 listed active staff voting in favor. It has therefore passed.
This vote is a result of the discussion held here. The purpose of this vote is to approve a process by which images in articles posted before February 24th 2017 are to be brought into compliance with the current images policy.
We will begin with the earliest posted articles and continue until all articles posted prior to February 24th 2017 are properly sourced or have had their images removed. We will not exempt or delay any article's enforcement based on rating or popularity. Replacement of such images are to be defined as explicitly outside the scope of the images subteam. This will not preclude future work by staff to replace such images.
The image subteam will adhere to the following process for enforcement on these articles:
1: Utilizing reverse image lookup services to determine if the image is in compliance with our license. This might include google image searches and TinEye reverse image search. Staff will be trained in the proper usage of these tools.
2: If a compliant source is found, it is to be posted in the page's discussion thread as a staff post in the highest position it can be posted (for visibility). Generally this means a reply to the first post in the discussion.
3: If a compliant source is not found, the image code is to be removed from the article. A staff post must be made in the discussion thread (again in the highest position possible for visibility) The image file is not to be deleted (This allows the author to more easily fix the problem) from the article itself.
4: If a image is removed from a page the author is to receive a message explaining the issue and linking them to the relevant forum thread from the staff member that enforces the page. This will also include directions not to re-add the image to the page without proper sourcing and licensing. This message will include a short tutorial on how to look up images sources themselves and what properly sourced images are.
5: Once the image sourcing is sorted, the page will have its _image tag replaced with _cc by the enforcing staff member.
If this vote passes, I will ask the administrators to send a site-wide wikidot PM to all registered users informing them of our beginning to enforce the already extant images policy (along with information on what proper sourcing both is and how best to fix an improperly sourced image). If this is not possible, I will collate a list of all authors on our list and find a way to send them a wikidot PM informing them of our enforcing the images policy. Regardless, we will wait for at least 31 days from that PM's sending before beginning our legacy enforcement process.
This vote is restricted to operational staff and above. Please, simply vote in favor of or against this.
