Site Criticism (Captain: SoullessSingularity |
Examples and Description: |
Vacuum has collected some crits here for your perusal. Vacuum has been the most consistent person in talking to me, in letting me know what they're doing, and keeping up with me. Their consistency is frankly, shocking, in a good way. I don't believe they've missed a single week in giving me a report and show no signs of burnout. They've expressed to me a desire for further responsibility because they are passionate about the site's future and progress. |

Community Outreach (Captain: Decibelles |
Commentary: |
Being on Community Outreach, Cyantreuse has done the most out of any member on the team (myself included). They have done more than half of the heavy lifting on the [| 2017] Community Survey, as well as helping to design themes for the site to replace them in the future. They are also constantly on chat and site, engaging with the community and able to get a far better grasp of it and what they want than I myself have been able to. |

DrBleep |
Team: |
WikiWalk (Captain: Jacob Conwell) |
Commentary: |
DrBleep is currently one of my most active JS, and has been a great addition to the WikiWalk team since day one. She's got a good eye for links that work, as well as being a skilled writer for the SCP Wiki and critique of its content in general. I feel she would do well with the move up to OS. With respect to WikiWalk, I sometimes feel like DrBleep has put this position on the backburner for writing project after writing project. If bumped up to OS, there is going to be a little less that can be backburnered in a similar manner. I'm sure this won't be a problem for DrBleep, but it is a concern nonetheless. |

DrMagnus |
Team: |
Tech Team (Captain: LurkD) |
Commentary: |
Brings a lot of technical knowledge and professional experience to staff, lord knows we need this in a desperate way. Built new timers and a new tag search from scratch, very impressive working knowledge of coding and programming, as well as wikidot infrastructure. Interactions with others, especially less than gracious members has been professional and unbiased. |
Junior Staff Member: |
DrMagnus |
Team: |
Forum Crit (Captain: Zyn) |
Commentary: |
DrMagnus is a great source of knowledge for a variety of topics, from computers to weapons and self-defense to fencing. He’s polite but firm when handling potentially troublesome users, and is regularly available in chat to keep an eye on #thecritters. To help with staff records-keeping, I’d like to see Magnus making some more O5 posts for when he’s had to deal with a troublesome user. Since he usually PMs me when something urgent happens, this isn’t an immediate thing. |
Examples of Work:
- 07-27 - this crit post covering a variety of issues from bad science to bad tone to bad logic.
- 08-08 - this crit post addressing a tale draft with many problems.
Junior Staff Member: |
Leveritas |
Team: |
Site Criticism (Captain: SoullessSingularity) |
Commentary: |
Leveritas has an unusual timezone which allows them to access behaviors that other staff members may miss. They're quite active (~daily visitor) and don't tend to cause waves. Examples of crit: here and here. |
Junior Staff Member: |
Leveritas |
Team: |
Forum Criticism (Captain: Zyn) |
Commentary: |
Sheer persistence and efficiency, all with an approachable air. Leveritas put a lot of time and work into the Crosslinks Guide, is currently working on another Essay, routinely helps out a lot in the forums, and is in general a nice person to interact with. He keeps up with forum conversations and keeps me informed whenever something happens or if he would like clarification on something. Leveritas does a lot of detailed with-quotes partial-line-by-line reviews, so I would like him to work on expanding his critique skills with shorter crits for the “trainwreck” drafts that are better off without long time-draining and potentially overwhelming reviews. |
Examples of Work:
- 07-27 - this crit post doing a good job of pointing out how articles should not assume that reader knowledge is the same as author knowledge.
- 08-08 - this crit post pointing out some common problems and explaining some basics without being accusatory.
Junior Staff Member: |
Modern_Erasmus |
Team: |
Forum Crit (Captain: Zyn) |
Commentary: |
M_E is very good at keeping the forums neat and tidy, posting notices when people create duplicate threads and also addressing problematic feedback. He’s got a wide variety of interests and is able to give good advice on various (sometimes obscure) topics. Plus he’s available on chat regularly as well. I’d like to see M_E posting in the Ideas and Brainstorming forum more often, not just Drafts and Critiques. |
Examples of Work:
- 07-31 - this JS post, noting the issues with a problematic crit post and quickly noting issues with the draft the author should be aware of.
- 08-10 - this crit post, being very patient with a very new newbie.

MrAnakinSpecter |
Team: |
Site Criticism (Captain: SoullessSingularity) |
Commentary: |
I asked him, and he's been a member of the site for about 5 years and a chatop for a year. He has previous experience therefore with helping new members and has a good grasp of site culture. I think he's ready for the next step in continuing that process. MrAnakinSpecter doesn't meet up with me as often as I'd like. And I couldn't tell you the direction he may have of the site. |
I applaud the efforts behind any collaboration, but I cannot +1 this. The ever generic "something isn't what is seems oooooooo" and "documentation what hints at a greater narrative but will likely never be expanded upon" do nothing to enhance or even distract from the bland concept of the anomaly. There are also formatting errors in the interview logs and its/it's confusion. -1.
This is one of those articles that I feel will make a lot more sense after the set is concluded. I believe that everything, even an introduction, should be able to stand on its own. And this does not, in my opinion. The dialogue, especially, is underdeveloped. Your sentences are simple and lack common additions that help your audience read in their head. Commas where natural pauses in speech would be, for example.
No vote, but probably -1 if the second part is more of the same.

Sly161 |
Team: |
Internet Outreach (Captain: Roget) |
Commentary: |
Sly has been an asset since joining the team. Has been on point in making sure that things like our weekly Foundation Friday posts go out, as well as being active on our tumblr and being regularly engaged with staff discussions. Has a good head for policy discussions and is able to provide alternate perspective. Very agreeable to get along with, willing and able to take on assigned tasks. Takes the initiative to perform new tasks. |
Junior Staff Member: |
Sly161 |
Team: |
Forum Crit (Captain: Zyn) |
Commentary: |
I think Sly161 is one of the best critters we have in chat: regularly available, friendly and approachable, and a solid writer as well. Sly helps out in Ideas and Brainstorming, writes counter-crits, and reminds me of things to do. Sly’s had practice sending staff protocol PMs to users who have been routinely called out for bad crit. I’d like Sly to be able to send revocation messages as well soon. |
Examples of Work:
- 07-21 - this JS post noting another user backseat-modding and mistakenly giving incorrect information while doing so. Handled politely and with a PM notification to me as well.
- 07-22 - this post with polite counter-crit and also noting some obvious things the first problematic review missed.

Singlehandedly managing our deviantArt and leading its turnaround back to relevance after our 'hacking' incident. This has taken a lot of hands-on work to be approving members and engaging with the artist community. One of the nicest people I've met on staff and her puns are outstanding. Intelligent and sensitive to the feelings of others. Also makes a lot of awesome puns. |

Forum Crit (Captain: Zyn) |
Commentary: |
tretter has come very far since his first days on the site. As a Forum Crit member, he’s been readily available to tackle the toughest drafts that hit the forums, and does so in a straightforward manner. He’s able to help intervene if things get heated, and I hope will soon write up a guide/essay/series about writing dialogue. And he’s in chat fairly often as well. Just watch out for burnout, and remember to take breaks once in awhile, even if you feel like you don’t really need to. :) |

Zachary Maxwell does not match any existing user name |
Team: |
Internet Outreach (Captain: Roget) |
Commentary: |
Highly visibly active on the site and continues to do excellent work in responding to new articles and helping new users. As far as I can tell they've kept up the excellent work we all agreed just needed more time from the last round of promotions so I don't think there's anything else that really needs to be said. We wanted to see if they would keep up activity, that has now been satisfied. Their contributions continue to be excellent. |

Zachary Maxwell does not match any existing user name |
Team: |
Forum Crit (Captain: Zyn) |
Commentary: |
Zachary has a good feel for how to write critique in a way that is approachable and informative for those who are unfamiliar with the site or writing clinically/scientifically in general. Zachary makes sure to keep me updated with any areas of concern noticed on the forums/the site in general, and gets along well with other staff members, evidenced by having worked on the Crosslinks guide. Zachary does have a habit of writing long critiques, so as with Leveritas, I’d like Zachary to work on some more streamlined reviews for the more problematic drafts that might not benefit as much from a super-thorough critique. |
Examples of Work:
- 07-27 - this crit post with plenty of links to further reading, including guides, similar SCP articles, and a Wikipedia page to correct the bad science.
- 08-10 - this crit post, covering a good mix of mechanics, writing themes, and overall response. Helpfully bolds the word usage issues.

Operational Staff Member: A Random Day |

Internet Outreach (Captain: Roget) |
Commentary: |
A Random Day - Dedicated staff member whom I think is ready for that next step in responsibility, I've seen ARD be introspective on his own behavior and work at improving it. I have not seen any occurrences of the behaviors which previously caused me concern and while this may be in part due to my lessened moving activity I suppose it will be up to others whether or not my assessment is an accurate one. |
