PMed anq about this, but I just wanted to see how people felt about it.

So, thus far authors-pick front-page features as contest prizes have happened twice in recent memory (MTF contest, and this month, History contest).

I'm wondering if we could have a special tag for features that were picked as contest prizes, "prize-feature" or the like, since these aren't the regular monthly features and (I felt, anyway) it would be nice to have some way of keeping track of these features.

Thoughts?

ETA: follow-up question… hub/collective page for the prize features?

Is there a reason why we couldn't just use Featured as well, or is this just a sort of quality of life suggestion? I'm not super familiar with the tagging system is why I ask.

This, to a degree. Currently, we used "featured" for the MTF contest features, and it took me awhile to dig those up to see how those were featured back in April 2016. I know we have at least 8 prize features now (from MTF, 4 from winning team and 2 from 2nd and 3rd place, and now 2 from the History contest) and there will likely be more for future contests that offer features as prizes.

I've sent a chat PM to anqxyr about it, but it would be great if other people in charge of tags could chime in?

I think this is a cool idea. But i think we should wait for a few more applicable articles to be tagged before making a hub page, obviously.

I don't mind the tag, but I think that "contest-winner" may be a better name for it.

Wouldn't that confuse people who might think that the tag refers to pieces that won contests?

Okay, I've tagged the front page prize features pages for the MTF winners and the History contest winners with "prize-feature": http://www.scp-wiki.net/system:page-tags/tag/prize-feature#pages

When I have time tomorrow, I'll check the contest archives to see if anything else applies.

Also, nota bene… another reason to use prize-feature rather than "featured" for these things… I keep an alphabetized list of all the authors ever featured on the front page and how many of their works have been tagged "featured". According to my records, DrBright/Cap'n Duckman has had five things featured, Dr Gears seven, far2 four, Sorts four, and TroyL four. When I started running the monthly features, I tried to pick things written by authors who haven't had anything featured yet. (shout-out to scpper database, it's amazing, I love you <3)

But prize features, people can have as many as they earn!!!

Honestly, I don't know how I feel about this. Aren't the winners announced on the contest page anyway? Is there going to be a hub of contest winners? I just don't understand the need of it other than fulfilling a request to access information that's already available.

What am I missing here?

The winners are announced in the contest page, but not the pages they picked as front page features as their prize for winning the contest. I think my earlier post was confusing; I'll edit it.

No, though at some point I'd like to have a hub of prize features. Not sure if that's really necessary though.

I don't see a point to having a hub. I do think the need to differentiate between staff-selected featured articles (knowing that they will be exposed to new members as a precedent) versus a single user's article of selection is enough to warrant a tag, but nothing beyond that.
