At nine fifteen-ish, my time, Hichi came into chat and… well… that.

I talked to unimport for some time about whether or not this should be posted here. His opinion was that since none of the stated rules of the chat were broken, it had no place here, but I felt that it should be reviewed.

There's a level of douchebaggery here that frankly amazes me. I've never seen Imants get pissed off at anyone, myself included. But, like I said, I'm not aware that this behavior breaks any actual rules.

He's a /b/tard or a troll, or both. If it was up to me, I would have called this under Spamming and booted him. I think I am going to add something to the newbie guide, just to remind people that, as far as internet board go, we're pretty well moderated/mature. Yes, we do silly bullshit a lot, but it's not mean-spirited for the most part. This asshole seems like just that, and I would say keep a very close eye on him.

Agreed. Unfortunately, none of our chat mods were active at the time, or I've no doubt it would have happened.

My opinion on the matter, as I explained to yoric, is that the SCP administration is not charged with defending justice in the universe: only maintaining order on the site. So, to take disciplinary action for something which does not actively damage the site or the chat, I think, is improper. Certainly, however, we can express our disapproval in words, rather than kicks or bans.

But with something like this I wouldn't be surprised if eventually it did spill onto the site, at which point I would be happy to support any action taken.

You demonstrate an admirable amount of levelheadedness and impartiality, as always.

However, in this instance I felt it perhaps better to err on the side of action. Hichi was guilty of breaking a rule, of a sort. As Clef's final point in the newbie guide says "Don't be a dick.". While I realise that it's intended as a sort of guideline rather than a directly enforceable rule, I do feel that in certain instances it carries weight. Certainly in my own, for example.

I worry that actions like Hichi's will set a precedent in the eyes of new users, set a standard of thinking for them that such behavior in channel is acceptable. We have, so far, avoided the common and unfortunate IRC issues of trolling and faggotry for the most part, and I would hate to see this trend come to an end.

This honestly just feels like a troll. Hichi is bragging about what a huge douche he is and thinking that we'll approve. We didn't, and he gets butthurt over it and starts calling other users names. Not cool.

Also, he doesn't understand that Anonymous is not his private army. Idiot.

HOWEVER: IMO, Yoric, you should not have banned Hichi in this case. He'd come on, he'd acted like a dick, he was ridiculed, and then he left in a huff. Matter over. If he'd come back behaving like a douche, then I think he should have been banned.

But that's me.
