Well, it's not an emergency anymore, but I may as well do a quick announcement.

All pages on the Sandbox Wiki can only be edited by their creator or a member of the staff. Anyone wanting universal editing ability on the sandbox wiki (via a mod promotion), talk to your team captains, and they'll provide it at their discretion. Team captains are expected to use this power with restraint, and not simply grant it to people because they wish to have it. Any team captains who have not yet joined the Sandbox Wiki formally, please join and message me so I can promote you.

This is a good decision, since it completely stops anyone who wants to vandalise others' sandboxes.

However, two small concerns:
1. Not letting people edit each others' pages might get in the way of collaborative projects on the Sandbox. On multiple occasions in the past, I've also seen people let others edit their pages for run-throughs of small spelling/grammar errors.
2. It looks like this change also stops people from viewing page source code. This prevents people from seeing how Javascript is implemented or how formatting tricks are done. I've had JS and CSS experiments lying around in my sandbox that other people ended up using before I did because they could dig through the source.

Don't really know what can be done to address either of these, though it may not be worth it - they're minor concerns compared to the more major one of sandbox vandalism anyway. Perhaps some way of flagging sandbox pages as collaborative, which lets other people edit them? I have no idea if this can be done on wikidot.

I think making a collaborative: category and then changing the rights on that would work. There are many things that are irritating about Wikidot, but url renaming is fairly painless.

And that has been done. Both 'collab' and 'collaborative' are now categories. If the page creator changes the category, they can now allow anyone to edit their page. They will, in turn, be in charge of policing their own pages.

Someone who knows Wikidot-Magic not only can view the page source but can also edit pages they don't own, regardless if they are staff or not.

I'm not sure, I think I've seen a snippet for page-related userrights, but I can't find it right now.

Noting here that this change appears to break breadcrumbs/parent pages completely. Parent page cannot be set even when the user owns both the child and the parent page. This is probably not a big issue in my opinion.

Joining the sandbox seems to solve this.

The "Options" menu with "View Source" is still borked, though.
