Mainsite Introductions Forum Revamp

As Cimmerian and Jekeled have pointed out to me several times, the mainsite introductions forum is pretty time-consuming for staff to respond to and doesn't get a lot of attention anyway.

With Decibelles and TroyL's blessings, I'm trying out a new thing on the Introductions Forum, to encourage more communication with new members.

Instead of having individual intro threads, every month I'll be posting three new collective threads for "writers, readers, and explorers" to introduce themselves. I'll keep old threads open so conversations can continue, but there will be a notice or something in allcaps noting that the thread is old and people posting their intros should use the current thread.

I'm with ya (obviously). I'll say we should watch those threads and reevaluate later as to if we need all of them or just one or two. Regardless, this is a good change that will help us as the site grows more and more. And also takes some of the heat off you, since you generally handle more of those introductions than any of us.

Always love things things that save busy people time, and this kind of change seems like it will be one of those things. I'm with Cimmerian that it will be best to keep an eye to see if any of the three threads can be combined with another due to lack of use, but over all this looks real neat.

…so, people kept making individual threads, despite all-caps in the Join the Site page and a new announcement thread about that. So, as per the power of TroyL, the Intros forum is now new thread-locked. Replies only.

I was under the impression that it was to generate an active discussion instead of dry introductions.

Yep. You'll probably get more people talking to each other if they're all in the same room rather than little cubicles that most people don't bother looking in. Also it's easier to see how a bunch of people introduce themselves in a collective place rather than visiting said bunch one at a time.
