So, while idly looking at the wiki, I happened to click on Visual Records, and I find a dead link. "Confiscated Memorabilia." I, of course, go 'WTF Team' and get ready to kill the link on the page before I start to wonder what the hell it was. Somebody's failed page? Something removed for copyright? I start to get curious.
There's a forum mention of its vanishing:
Zyn has a Chat with a Mormon Child, and we get a hard date of the latest point at which it could have gone missing. Decibelle dug into the Wayback Machine, and I went searching through O5 and the main site for clues. Tuomey was there to, looking befuddled, which is more helpful than it sounds.
The author, one major-hayas does not match any existing user name, hasn't been active on the site since around 2012, and even then, only posted a handful of times. Including the posts that we were able to discover on the Wayback page, fewer than 20, it seems. This page was present on the wiki from 2012 until mid-2015. Decibelle discovered that it was still present, and its vote rising, when it vanished sometime between the dates of June 24 - and August 26, 2015 in the Bermuda Triangle of SCP.
The images are not on the Visual Records wiki that I've been able to find, and even if they are, I can find no record of the page's deletion from the site in the Deleted Pages threads active during this time frame. The images themselves are retained as part of the Image Review, but that project appears to be dead in the water, and I can't imaging that they would have been removed before being backed up. They also were taken by the author in question (and have been added to the translation sites, even), so they should have been entirely legal.
Edit: Cimmerian, following a link in one of the old discussion pages, found that their Flickr Account has been active in the last year, with the business cards they made buried back on page 34 (of 35).
The big question I'm putting forth is this: How did this page get deleted and why is there no record of its deletion?
If it was deleted as part of some Visual Records purge, why wasn't it documented somewhere? If its rating fell (from +16 to at least -10), why wasn't it documented in one of the deletions threads? I find it extremely difficult to believe that the author somehow came back and self deleted after three years of inactivity. So…
Where did this page go?
