French ambassade here.
Went through the guide, and I think it's really great to have done such a thing in this professional way. The German branch has found the man of the situation in Grom I guess.
But even if there is milestones, etc, I think there is still something interesting we could add. Let me explain.
Every branch, I think, through its evolution, as seen different "periods". If you look at the really first SCPs and the current new contents, there is a lot of difference.
As an example, I'm going to take the french branch I know, it's surprising.
At the beginning, we had only translations (as far as I know I wasn't there on the first day, but long enough to have seen it evolving), and little by little, we had our own creations. And with this came our recurrent elements who became the "pillars" of the french branch universe.
And I think that the creations, and the developpement of a lore who really belongs to the branch (like having its own universe, recurrent characters, running gags, while staying in the mother-universe who's the SCPniverse) is really helping to develop both site and community :
- Having its own content helps the author to feel respected, and it keeps them going for more creations. Doing so, it develops the site.
- Creating a universe who belongs to the community (because it created it) helps people feel involved, and by doing so, it keeps them writing and creating more and more.
Of course. You will indeed have not-that-good-quality content at first. X-men, Mary/Gary Sue, but once you have an involved community, ready to make the universe it created evolves, you can raise the standard. I mean. Look at some stuff like Able or 096. They are definitely some xmen kind of SCPs. But they helped creating hype and thanks to that, the site developped.
We just finished to go through this phase a year ago at -FR, and now we are going to the next phase of developement who is all about canons, 001, GOI, and more philosophics SCP. We have done so because we gained in maturity when going through the first phase I described above.
To conclude, I think we should maybe think more about how to manage the commitment of the pioneers of the new branches. Maybe this new not-that-motivated member in the German branch could be one day a German Clef, or Bright. Who knows ?
