Page Type: SCP Article
Elevator Pitch: A pair of swimming goggles that trap the wearer's consciousness inside the lenses while allowing the previous soul trapped inside to hijack their physical body. The twist is that the trapped souls can manipulate the lenses from the inside, actively projecting illusions to lure new victims into wearing them to escape an undying purgatory.
Central Narrative: The article follows the Foundation's discovery of the object during an experimental loop where a D-Class body-swaps with a historical entity. As the lore expands, we learn the object was built by a 19th-century scientist seeking immortality, who accidentally trapped himself in an eternal sensory void. It covers a chilling Foundation protocol where high-value scientists are allowed to hijack D-Class bodies to "salvage" their minds, and concludes with a dark policy: the Foundation hunts down and indefinitely locks up anyone who successfully escapes the goggles, because the act of psychologically torturing a stranger to steal their body proves they are now dangerous sociopathic predators.
Hook/Attraction: It subverts the classic "body snatcher" trope by turning the victims into the predators. The horror comes from the realization that every single person who escapes is committing an act of desperate malice against an innocent person, creating an endless cycle of trauma.
Additional Notes: This is my first SCP draft. The full master draft is completed and currently sitting in my sandbox, optimized for a fast read and maximum psychological dread.

**Item #:** SCP-XXXX
**Object Class:** Keter
**Special Containment Procedures:** SCP-XXXX is to be kept in a vacuum-sealed, light-proof, and sound-dampening containment locker at Site-19. Personnel assigned to SCP-XXXX must wear polarized, completely opaque visors during handling to prevent direct line-of-sight with the object's lenses. All research and monitoring must be conducted via automated robotic drones. No direct human interaction is permitted.
Any individuals who have successfully escaped SCP-XXXX (designated instances of SCP-XXXX-B) are to be tracked down, apprehended, and placed under indefinite containment in standard humanoid isolation cells.
[[/box]]
**Description:** SCP-XXXX is a pair of black, rubber-strapped swimming goggles. Visually, it matches consumer sporting goods manufactured in the late 1990s.
The anomalous properties of SCP-XXXX manifest when a human makes direct eye contact with the lenses. The localized consciousness matrix inside the goggles (designated SCP-XXXX-A) can project hyper-realistic, memetic visual illusions onto the lenses. Eye contact triggers an immediate, severe **cognitohazardous compulsion**. The victim loses all free will, becoming utterly obsessed with the illusion, and is physically compelled to place the goggles over their eyes.
Once worn, the victim will violently resist any attempts to remove the goggles, initiating a continuous seven (7) day cognitive displacement loop:
* **Days 1–3 (Sensory Overwrite):** The subject becomes entirely unresponsive to external visual stimuli. They report seeing an endless, tranquil underwater cityscape or ocean abyss.
* **Days 4–5 (Behavioral Bleed):** The subject’s personality, vocabulary, and physical mannerisms begin to shift. They begin adopting memories and behavioral traits belonging to SCP-XXXX-A.
* **Day 6 (The Displacement):** The subject’s original consciousness is forcefully extracted from their nervous system and compressed into SCP-XXXX. During this phase, the subject’s physical body will smile and speak calmly, while faint audio of the subject's *original* voice crying for help can be heard vibrating from the goggles' plastic frames.
* **Day 7 (The Execution of Loop):** The consciousness swap is completed. SCP-XXXX-A takes full control of the subject's body, removes the goggles, and attempts to integrate into society. The subject's original consciousness becomes the new SCP-XXXX-A, trapped inside the goggles.
**The Biological Cost:** The moment a soul is extracted into SCP-XXXX, the original body it left behind becomes a brain-dead, comatose husk. Within 24 hours of a successful swap, the previous body suffers total, catastrophic organ failure and rots at an accelerated pace, ensuring a soul can never return to its original flesh.

### Addendum XXXX.1: Discovery and Interview Log
*The following interview was conducted after the very first Foundation test of SCP-XXXX. D-9943 was instructed to wear the goggles for exactly 7 days. Dr. Aris conducted the post-test interview under the assumption that D-9943 had simply suffered mild memory loss.*
> **Interviewer:** Dr. Marcus Aris
> **Interviewee:** D-9943 (Post-7-Day Exposure)
>
> **[BEGIN LOG]**
>
> **Dr. Aris:** Good morning, D-9943. How are you feeling today?
>
> **D-9943:** *(Looks around the sterile interrogation room, smiling widely. He rubs his hands along his denim uniform.)* Splendid, Doctor. Truly splendid. The air in this room... it is incredibly dry, isn't it? Marvelous.
>
> **Dr. Aris:** Dry? It's standard climate-controlled ventilation. Let's talk about the goggles. You wore them for a full week. Can you describe what you saw?
>
> **D-9943:** *(Nods politely, using an uncharacteristically formal, old-fashioned dialect)* Oh, a beautiful place, sir. Sunlight cutting through deep blue waters. Coral structures that reached the sky. But it grew terribly crowded. I was ready to leave. I am so terribly grateful you pulled me out.
>
> **Dr. Aris:** Your speech patterns are noticeably different today, 9943. Do you know where you are? Do you remember your name?
>
> **D-9943:** Of course. I am... D-9943. A volunteer for your esteemed organization. I am ready to return to my quarters and live a quiet, peaceful life.
>
> **Dr. Aris:** *(Frowns, typing on his terminal)* Right. Your biometric data matches, but your psychological profile is completely inverted. You were notoriously combative last week.
>
> **D-9943:** A man can change, Doctor. After being submerged in darkness for so long, one learns to appreciate the shore.
>
> *(At this moment, Dr. Aris's earpiece crackles. Research Assistant Vance is speaking from the testing laboratory down the hall.)*
>
> **Assistant Vance [Over Earpiece]:** Dr. Aris? Um, we have a massive anomaly in the lab. We just hooked the goggles up to the audio-frequency analyzers.
>
> **Dr. Aris:** *(To earpiece)* Go ahead, Vance. What is it?
>
> **Assistant Vance:** Sir, the lenses are vibrating. There's an audio signal coming from *inside* the plastic. We cleaned up the static and pitched it up. I'm playing it for you now.
>
> *(A secondary audio feed plays into Dr. Aris's earpiece. The audio is a frantic, terrified, muffled screaming. The voice is violent, foul-mouthed, and instantly recognizable as the true, original personality of D-9943.)*
>
> **Muffled Voice [Inside Goggles]:** *LET ME OUT! HEY! WHO IS THAT IN MY BODY?! DR. ARIS, LOOK AT ME! THAT THING ISN'T ME! IT TRAPPED ME IN THE GLASS! LOOK AT MY HANDS, WHERE ARE MY HANDS?! IT'S SO COLD IN HERE, LET ME OUT—*
>
> **Dr. Aris:** *(Freezes, staring intently at the man sitting across from him)*
>
> **D-9943:** *(Noticing the doctor's pale expression, his smile widens slightly. He tilts his head.)* Is something wrong, Doctor? You look as though you've seen a ghost.
>
> **Dr. Aris:** Security... seal Interrogation Room 4. Now.
>
> **[END LOG]**

### Addendum XXXX.2: History and Origin
In 2012, Foundation agents raiding an abandoned estate in Edinburgh, Scotland, recovered the personal journals of **Dr. Alistair Finch** (1842–1901), a reclusive occult physicist.
Finch constructed the original version of the anomaly—a brass and glass diving visor—in an attempt to achieve biological immortality. By etching complex metaphysical geometry into the rims of the lenses, he successfully decoupled the human consciousness from biological decay.
As long as a human soul resides inside the lenses, it cannot age, get sick, or die. However, Finch's engineering dictated that the glass must always hold a consciousness. To leave, a soul must actively drag a new one in to take its place.
Dr. Finch was the very first soul trapped in the object. He spent over 90 years in total sensory deprivation before successfully escaping into a modern swimmer in the late 1990s. This escape caused the anomalous properties to transfer into the current swimming goggles, while Finch's original 1901 corpse instantly turned to ash upon his departure.

### Addendum XXXX.3: Protocol XXXX-Recoup
In the event that high-value Foundation personnel (Level 4 clearance or higher, critical researchers, or specialized Mobile Task Force commanders) become entrapped as SCP-XXXX-A, the presiding Site Director may authorize **Protocol XXXX-Recoup**.
A D-Class subject possessing identical physical capabilities to the trapped asset's original body is selected and restrained. SCP-XXXX is forcibly applied to their face. The trapped Foundation asset is instructed to use the standard 7-day displacement cycle to actively overwrite and destroy the D-Class's consciousness.
Upon completion of Day 7, the asset is returned to active duty under a modified identity. The original D-Class consciousness is left inside SCP-XXXX indefinitely.

### Addendum XXXX.4: Containment of Post-Escape Victims (SCP-XXXX-B)
The Foundation has implemented a global monitoring network to track down any individuals historically affected by SCP-XXXX prior to its containment. Once an escaped soul (SCP-XXXX-B) is identified, they are permanently contained.
> **Project Memorandum (Dr. Aris):**
> "We have received complaints from the Ethics Committee regarding the indefinite containment of the people who manage to escape the goggles. They asked why we don't just use Class-A Amnestics to wipe their minds and let them live normal lives.
>
> The answer is simple: Amnestics do not work. The damage done by SCP-XXXX is not a memory. It is a fundamental warping of the soul.
>
> These people are not victims anymore. The moment they escaped, they proved themselves to be apex predators. To get out of that glass, you have to spend days tailoring psychological torture for an innocent outsider. You have to look a human being in the eyes, lie to them, feed on their deepest desires, and then slowly suffocate their soul until it vanishes into the plastic.
>
> Even when we wipe their memories completely, the predatory instincts remain. They view other humans as nothing more than 'flesh suits' to be worn and discarded. They are entirely devoid of empathy. They are unsafe to be out in the wild, and they will remain locked in our cells until the day their stolen bodies give out."

So that the foundation can study what happens to the people that escape and wether any lasting effects were bestowed on them by the SCP.

I guess it would make more sense for them to be terminated. Sorry I guess I hadn’t thought that all the way through. I will edit the part where it says that all of them are kept alive indefinitely
