**Description:** SCP-9825 is believed to be a cyber-memetic virus inside of the SCP database. Its effects manifest through the hijacking of random SCP reports (from here on referred to as the "Target"), and the generation of "inverted" reports in their stead. These are based on the SCP reports classified under the number corresponding to the Target's mirrored report number (//e.g.// If the target is SCP-ABCD, the inverted report will be based on SCP-DCBA, from here on referred to as the "Substitute"). The generated report will contain all information found in the Substitute's report, though altered by SCP-9825. Any text will be mirrored, and written in a backwards fashion, with the SCP classification at the bottom and final remarks at the top. Image and audio data is likewise affected, with images appearing as their negatives, and audio playing backwards. Video data has both its colors inverted, and is played backwards. Cognitohazards are rendered ineffective under the inversion effects, potentially causing critical security leaks. SCP-9825 not only affects the original report, but likewise produces inverted copies of all supplementary material associated with the Substitute. When SCP-9825 targets a new SCP object, all data related to the object in question is lost. There are no known methods of safeguarding the Target's. Physical copies of the Target's report will appear as the Substitute report under SCP-9825's effects. Visual footage will likewise display the Substitute report. Audio recordings of readings of the Target's report are changed into a backwards reading of the Substitute report. Memorization is also ineffective due to SCP-9825's effect on Foundation personnel. The substitution effect is assumed to be global, and irrespective of ownership. In one instance, a Foundation asset imbedded in a hostile group of interest was able to confirm that a stolen report of an SCP object affected by SCP-9825 had also been altered. Any attempts to edit or alter the Substitute report in any way is ineffective, as all changes are immediately reverted by SCP-9825. When a new SCP object is targeted, all data of the original Target is restored. It is unknown whether the restored report is identical to the original, or whether SCP-9825 makes any alterations. The nature of SCP-9825 makes it impossible to verify the Target data's integrity after demanifestation.
Under SCP-9825's effects, Foundation staff assigned to the Target will lose all knowledge of the Target, and instead gain in-depth, though erroneous, knowledge of the Substitute. In most cases, they will believe themselves to be assigned to the Substitute SCP object, and attempt to gain access to the Substitute in order to perform the duties of the assigned personnel. Typically, they will attempt to do the opposite of what the Substitute's protocols prescribe, and will become alarmed if they see anyone performing the correct protocols. This can either result in a false containment breach alarm being sounded, or in more extreme cases, physical altercations by affected staff and a forceful application of wrong procedures, risking a containment breach themselves. Early detection of SCP-9825 manifestations is therefore key to avoiding security incidents. Personnel under the effects of SCP-9825 are to be amnesticized, and temporarily reassigned to a different site. In the case that affected staff are armed and considered dangerous (//e.g.// in the case that MTF operatives are affected by SCP-9825), and de-escalation efforts fail, neutralization of the threat is permitted. When a new Target is chosen by SCP-9825, all staff assigned to the previous Target regain all knowledge regarding the object, and can be reassigned to their original position.
Although all documentation of the Target is lost during SCP-9825's manifestation, the SCP objects themselves remain unaffected. In order to avoid containment breaches, new staff needs to be assigned to these objects immediately upon detection of a new Target. In order to re-enact security protocols, the "Containment Reconstruction Database" was created, in which SCP objects can be algorithmically cross-referenced with reports obtained from Foundations located in alternate dimensions, as these do not seem to be affected by SCP-9825. Although the validity of these reports in our own dimension are not 100% certain, adjustments of the database over the years has ensured an accuracy of 96%.
