Item #: SCP-8561
Object Class: Euclid
==================================================
Special Containment Procedures:
SCP-8561 has to be contained in a sealed concrete chamber no smaller than 4×4 meters, or larger if the anomaly takes up more space. The object must remain centered within the unit at all times. Direct physical contact with SCP-8561 is strictly prohibited.
Each known variation of SCP-8561 (currently seventeen in total) is housed at a dedicated Foundation facility constructed around the site of its discovery. All instances are to be monitored at all times for any fluctuation in atomic structure, radiation output, or energy displacement.
All ATD-class entities (see Addendum A) are stored inside a reinforced biological containment chamber at Research Site-██, under Level 4 clearance. Research into emitted particles and temporal emissions continues under strict supervision.
------------------------------------------
Operation A&TMC:
Operation A&TMC is carried out every ten years to control SCP-8561’s replication. The operation, officially titled Atomic & Time Manifestation Control, is a global Foundation effort that involves coordinated participation from most active sites.
During the event, one designated SCP-8561 concrete cage is carefully opened and presented with a live bird specimen larger than 5×5 cm. Once contact occurs, the chamber is immediately sealed again.
Following this, Foundation teams are tasked with locating the newly manifested variation of SCP-8561 that appears somewhere else on Earth as a direct result of the procedure. This controlled replication cycle prevents uncontrolled global duplication and allows the Foundation to identify and contain the new instance before the next ten-year threshold.
------------------------------------------
Description:
SCP-8561 is a non-material entity composed of exactly five atoms. The nature of these atoms is unknown. Any attempt to analyze them leads to catastrophic data corruption or complete loss of recorded information. The only thing known about them is that they are made of 5 main atoms of the current SCP-8561 host structure (for example, SCP-8561-1 is composed of 1 Carbon, 1 Hydrogen, 1 Oxygen, 1 Nitrogen, and 1 Phosphorus atom).
The anomaly was first documented as SCP-8561-1 — a pure white, flawless leaf of unknown botanical origin. The object appears to lack any sense of depth and physically consists of only five measurable atoms. SCP-8561-1 contains no DNA, RNA, subatomic particles, or chemical bonds except between these atoms. All SCP-8561 variations appear to have the same visual properties, such as:
- pure white pigmentation
- flawless state of the item
- depth concept doesn’t affect it
- its structure is always 5 atoms
- lacks any traces of DNA, RNA or chemical bonds
Touching SCP-8561 results in immediate temporal and spatial displacement. The first known contact led to the creation of ATD-1 (see below).
------------------------------------------
ATD-1 Incident Report:
The first recorded encounter with SCP-8561-1 occurred under unknown conditions. The identity of the individual involved remains unconfirmed. Roughly twenty years later, a body was found at the same location.
This body, now designated ATD-1 (Atomic Time Displacement Object 1), displayed the following traits:
- Apparent biological age increased by at least 100 years
- Complete loss of pigmentation, resulting in a pure white coloration
- Temporal stasis — the body was frozen in the same position likely held at the moment of contact
- Total DNA and RNA erasure
- Severe tissue degradation preventing identification
- Despite its frozen state, ATD-1 emits invisible particles of unknown energy. Extended exposure to this emission causes gradual temporal stasis in living beings — a phenomenon classified as ATRP (Atomic Time Regulation Process).
Short-term exposure appears harmless, but long-term proximity significantly accelerates the progress of ATRP, eventually suspending the subject in time just like ATDs. After roughly one year, affected individuals become visually and structurally identical to other ATD cases. The Foundation calls those RP-ATD objects (Regulation Process Atomic Time Displacement Objects).
------------------------------------------
Behavior and Propagation:
SCP-8561 behaves somewhat like a virus, though it only takes non-living organisms as its host. It replicates when coming into contact with organic lifeforms larger than 5×5 cm.
After such contact, SCP-8561 remains in the original position but simultaneously creates another version of itself with another appearance somewhere else on the planet. As of this report, the Foundation has confirmed 17 known manifestations of SCP-8561, 16 ATDs, and 5 RP-ATDs.
All instances are different in appearance and atomic composition but the same in anomalous behavior. Containment facilities have been established at each location to ensure continued observation.
If all known SCP-8561 variations are left undisturbed for ten years, each will spontaneously replicate, effectively doubling the global count and cutting the time to the next duplication event in half. To prevent uncontrolled exponential growth, Operation A&TMC is carried out every decade to trigger one controlled replication event, preventing spontaneous duplication across the world.
------------------------------------------
Addendum A-1 - Containment Summary:
Overall conclusion:
SCP-8561 poses a severe threat to both organic and inorganic matter due to its self-replicating nature and unpredictable temporal effects. Its simplicity — existing as only five atoms — doesn’t disturb its ability to distort time, space, and biological structure.
All further experiments on SCP-8561 and ATD-class objects are currently suspended, awaiting authorization from the O5 Council, because of repeated containment instability and potential risks of uncontrolled temporal catastrophe.

Addendum B-1:
Member of MTF Eta-10 performing first contact and basic tests just after discovery of SCP-8561.
Document 8561-1#: Audio recording of the first encounter with the anomaly.
[BEGIN LOG — MTF Eta-10 "See No Evil" - field observation █/█/█-1]
<tape start>
Eta-10-3 “Vega”: Command, I’ve located the target. It looks like one leaf, completely white — no texture at all.
Eta-10-Actual “Overwatch”: Copy. Perform IR and depth scan.
Vega: Depth sensors... Not reading anything. It’s like it doesn’t exist past its shape.
Overwatch: Confirmed, Vega. Do not approach within arm’s reach.
Vega: Understood. The wind isn’t affecting it either. It’s just there, like someone pasted it into reality. No matter from which position I look, it appears the same.
Overwatch: Copy.
Vega: Nothing more to report. Retreating.
[END OF COMMUNICATION]
<tape stop>
Conclusion:
Tests and observations of Agent Vega reported nothing more than the abnormal visual phenomena that the said object appears to possess. Therefore, further experiments and observations are required to determine the object’s class.

Overwatch: Agent Vega, what happened?
Vega: (with scared voice) S-Some kind o-of figure has appeared out of nowhere...
Overwatch: What do you mean? Please describe it with more details.
Vega: It appears to be a humanoid monument... Wait!? No. It’s not a statue, it’s human skin with certain abnormalities.
Overwatch: What do you see, Vega...
Vega: It looks like it’s a rotten, degraded human except it’s pale white with no other colors. Even the hair is white. Also, from what I see, it’s in some kind of frozen state. I think there are no more visual abnormalities.
Overwatch: Copy that, return to base.
Vega: Understood. Retreating.

Conclusion:
SCP-8561 appears to have abnormal hostility toward any radiation meters, though it doesn’t seem to emit any sort of radiation waves. As for the pale white, degraded figure that appeared in front of Agent Vega, no more is yet known. More tests on both topics are needed to achieve valuable data (see test results below). For now, the mysterious humanoid object is named ATD-1. ATD-1 is now being transported to the new Research Site-██ for further experiments on said object’s behavior and threat level.

Conclusion:
As a result of many tests and observations carried out by MTF Eta-10’s agent, important data has been archived in the SCP Foundation database (see test results below). In the tragic accident while performing the final test, Agent Eta-10-3 "Vega" has been pronounced deceased. His body hasn’t been found yet. From the testimony of his fellow co-workers, Agent Vega just disappeared after accidentally touching SCP-8561. The first Foundation loss has been named ATD-2. Any further physical contact with SCP-8561 is strictly prohibited. Shortly after the incident, another SCP-8561 variant was found in ███. From now on, it has been noted that SCP-8561 is able to replicate. The first variant of SCP-8561 has been given a number: SCP-8561-1. The newly discovered variant has also been given a number: SCP-8561-2. After another replication of SCP-8561, its new variants will be given additional numbers based on their discovery order.
