Special Containment Procedures:
SCP-9982 is stored in a standard archival locker at Site-43. The locker must remain unlocked but closed at all times. SCP-9982 may not be removed from its container between 02:00 and 03:00 local time under any circumstances.

Any personnel who hear SCP-9982 activate are to record the time, location, and exact wording of the sound, then leave the area immediately. No attempt should be made to respond.

Description:
SCP-9982 is a plastic office intercom manufactured in 1994 by ███████ Electronics. The device is not connected to any power source and contains no internal components capable of sound production.

At random intervals, SCP-9982 emits a single, short announcement in a neutral automated voice. Each announcement consists of a name, followed by the phrase:

“Please return to your assigned position.”

The name spoken always corresponds to a person who is no longer alive at the time of the announcement. Cross-referencing Foundation records confirms that the majority of names belong to individuals who died while performing routine or repetitive tasks.

Notably, SCP-9982 never repeats a name.

Addendum 9982-A: Discovery
SCP-9982 was recovered from a defunct administrative building scheduled for demolition. Former employees reported occasionally hearing the intercom activate after hours, calling for coworkers who had retired, transferred, or died. One worker stated: “It only ever called people who weren’t coming back.”

After the incident, SCP-9982 ceased all activity for exactly one year.

Despite its Safe classification, several staff members have requested SCP-9982 be reclassified as Euclid. One comment attached to the request reads:
