Thread description:
An uncanny researcher is performing memetic-neutralizing rituals that are allegedly written within an anomalous leather-bound book, but her colleagues have reported that she isn't actually reading it
**Seeking Greenlights:** Yes
**Page Type:** SCP Article
**Genre:** Horror, Cosmic Thriller
**Page Layout:** The article will be structured as an unfolding investigation using the standard SCP format with a heavy emphasis on narrative progression through the use of addenda.
Initial Sections: The Description section will outline the physical description of the lexicon, a rudimentary summary of the procedures outlined within the pages therein, and then a summary of some of their anomalous effects. The Containment Procedures section will outline a banal containment procedure where Dr. Sandra Boxley is the only licensed operator of the lexicon.
Addendum 1 (The Method): Will detail some of the nonsensical rituals performed by researcher Boxley and the observed effects they had on some notable anomalies
Addendum 2 (The Human Conflict): Will give the subordinate accounts and the accounts of MTF Eta-10 Commander Petra Volkov from a field deployment involving how head researcher Boxley’s 'blunder' led to the deaths of some on her squadron, calling Boxley’s character into jeopardy
Addendum 3 (The Twist): This is where the security detail reports and transcripts will confirm the core mystery of the plot — that Boxley is not really using the lexicon SCP at all
Addendum 4 (The Climax): Will outline the transcript of an interview between Dr. Sandra Boxley and Dr. Caleb Reid, where it is revealed that something anomalous related to Boxley herself is impeding all progress on the official investigation into the file of Boxley and the lexicon SCP
**Elevator Pitch:** A single uncanny researcher has become the Foundation’s most effective agent for the containment of dangerous K-class memetic hazards by performing rituals outlined within an anomalous lexicon that ‘recontextualizes’ the threats. An internal investigation is kicked off following examinations into the novel aspects of the rituals and accounts that the head researcher isn’t actually reading the book she claims to use. This investigation is invariably compromised by what is coined, in the case file, as a 'narrative resistance field' emanating from the head researcher herself. All attempts to directly scrutinize her methods are met with a statistically impossible frequency of technical malfunctions, memory loss, and, at times, sudden, acute migraines. As a result, all official investigative efforts into the phenomena surrounding the head researcher have been placed on indefinite hold, leaving a Keter-class anomaly unabated in plain sight.
**Central Narrative:** Although this article is written with the focus on the 'anomalous' lexicon, the story is meant to be a slow-burn, cosmic thriller exploring the uncanny contradiction of head researcher Dr. Sandra Boxley. The story will walk through the accounts and evidence from foundation staff that cross-examine the paradoxical nature of Boxley (inspirational but uncharismatic, lauded but unimaginative, distinguished but bland -- according to subordinate staff) including accounts from co-researcher Dr. Caleb Reid from the antimemetics division and Petra Volkov a commander from MTF Eta-10 who has a pronounced distrust for Boxley after the events of a field deployment with the head researcher that involved deaths on her team. All accounts will point to the anomaly being centered around Boxley and not the book. By the end of the addenda, it will become apparent that the lexicon is a decoy. But, a decoy to what ('what is Boxley?') exactly is still unknown.
The primary goal is to evoke a sense of existential paranoia that the foundation is missing something critical. And the reader will be left asking how the foundation could be missing something so obvious, with the final revelation being that Boxley herself is somehow interfering with her own discovery and containment. The secondary and tertiary goals are to explore the thematic meaning of some of the most unsettling/mysterious conceptual SCPs and to demystify the laws of the SCP-verse while outlining the elements of a larger SCP canon.
**Additional Notes:**
This is my first SCP article, so I want to ensure that I'm really respecting the conventions and lore of this community. This article is also meant to be the foundation for a developing canon (Welcome to the False Vacuum canon). As such, I really want everything to be logically consistent. So, if there are any inconsistencies in the narrative I proposed, please call them out. I welcome any criticism. Thank you!
