Galliformes left the following comments in the comments of a soon-to-be-deleted post:
There was a now-deleted, community-posted SCP that commentated on the Official SCP Discord. One of the points being addressed was how ineffectual the activism was since it was occurring exclusively on a online chat space that contains people that already agree with it. It ended with one of users leaving the discord and being seen taking real-world action (protesting for LBGT causes) to better the world as they see fit. This caused a fight in the comments section about what its intention was.
I dislike preachy, disconnected work like this because they don’t do much beside stroke the writer’s ego. Posting stuff like this here won’t change the mind of a right-wing person or incite any real change to help the affected immigrants. It may also make things worse by irritating apolitical users who wanted to avoid political content on this site, alienating them from the points it makes.
If one actually wants to stop the rise of Conservatism in Americans, then either address/solve the issues causing this rise or interact with Conservatives in a diplomatic manner to possibly defuse their anger.
Would you rather have a person remain apolitical via disengagement with politics or become radicalized into a facist? We would both agree that the person was better off not involved in politics.
This is just my perspective, but I think aggression should be carefully handled. There are many cases (both sides do this) in which a person unwisely lashes out and harms a neutral bystander or non-aggressive enemy. This decision harms the person and their political movement because, without context, people will immediately side with the injured party. If the aggression is ineffective at ending the conflict, it just begets more aggression.
The Conservative Party is gaining power because people do not like the current Democrat Party. If the Democrat party had earlier solved current Conservative talking points, people would remain satisfied and not leave the party. The only other option besides diplomacy is subjugation/eradication, which is impossible to fully accomplish and unanimously a horrific deed.
I think we should be harsher on political pieces because they represent an ideology. Any error in a piece will take away from the ideology’s credibility or be weaponized by political opponents.
Those are fringe far-right/alt-right talking points. In truth, most of the American Conservative Party would find those stances disgusting. Most Conservatives hate Nazis and vice-versa. The reality is that the Conservative Party/Right is not a uniform coalition just like how the Democrat Party is not a uniform coalition. Many of those demographics that the Conservatives supposedly hate also make up then Conservative Party (see Log Cabin Republicans). Both parties truly cannot control who associates with them. There are moderates who want to improve the quality of life for everyone and the extremists who are motivated by hatred.
Here’s my observation of mainstream Conservative stances:
-Illegal immigrants are to be deported back to their own countries. Meanwhile, legal immigrants who got legal citizenship can stay.
-The stance on Muslims depends on who you ask. There are people who don’t mind Muslim-Americans, there are people who are afraid of Muslims because of Islamic Extremists, and there are people who are Muslims themselves.
-There are Conservatives who support the existence of transgender people, but want gender-affirming care to be restricted to adults to avoid misapplying it onto minors whose body dysphoria are caused by puberty or other mental health conditions. On the other hand, people who doubt the existence of transgender people think gender dysphoria should be treated with therapy.
-Children should not die. Remember the common “think of the children” used to justify censorship. Alternatives to gun control include hiring armed guards at schools or addressing the mental health crisis creating school shooters. Antivaxxers are mostly mocked by both the left and right.
-Once again, this response varies from faction to faction. However, most Americans agree that women should not be forced to bear children. Some conservatives accept unmarried women, others condemn unmarried women.
-Black people should not be enslaved or killed. However, the African American community has cultural issues that are holding its people’a quality of life back.
-Conserving the planet should not harm human development. Humans should protect the environment and natural resources.
-I have seen some Conservatives shit on Elon Musk.
I oppose facist ideology. However, I see the current Left’s methods to combat facism as counterproductive. The current Left’s behavior is driving away allies and making enemies. It’s trying to hide things under the rug, which is giving extremists control of the conversation. The people most affected are those that it is trying to protect (minorities).
People aren’t balanced being, they tend to go to extremes. When people hate something, some of them will mistake that something’s opposite to be better. What I am worried about is facism rising in response to the Left pissing off more and more people.
Trump’s victory is a warning sign that the Left has to change.
I genuinely do not wish to be your enemy. I never really wanted to get my politics involved here.
Gang violence is terrorizing African Americans. Many African American-majority places struggle with poverty. Before the implementation of Affirmative Action, African American students were being outcompeted by White and Asian students’ scores, which meant less African American students were getting into prestigious colleges.
To give an analogy:
Have you heard of pro shipper vs. anti-shipper discourse? Many people initially sided with the anti shippers because pro shippers tolerated problematic elements in ships such as abuse, incest, SA, and pedophilia.
However, a vocal minority of anti shippers considered trivial things (small age gaps, height differences, mixed race) to be problematic and started attacking people for those. At the same time, less composed anti shippers started sending minors death threats. This soured people’s perception of that side, so people who were anti shippers moved to defend pro shippers.
Following a review of these comments, and the comments inclusion of debunked, racially-charged dogwhistles, the Disciplinary team has elected to permanently ban them.
