It's that time again. Promotion time. We skipped the Q1 promotions this year to let the dust settle on the new system, and it's a good thing we did, but I'll not chat about that much here and now (more posts, later, always later). We have, as usual, a list of users going onto inactive statue, another list being removed from staff, and a final series of promotion votes.
This promotion vote will end in:
Timer Removed
Operational Staff Inactivity Status:
These are members of staff whose presence has dropped significantly, either with or without an announcement. These members have been removed from their teams and placed on Inactive Status. Staff Members on Inactive Status have no rights as far as staff members go, but given a return to activity, can become staff again.

Inactive Staff Removals:
While a list is maintained on the site, the following staff members have been deemed to have gone inactive/left for a long enough period of time that we are officially removing them from the staff roster. Should they return, their ability to be staff will have to be reassessed and considered before inclusion.

Operational Staff Voting:
This is an open vote for all staff members.
The following is a series of paragraphs and examples provided by Team Captains concerning their Junior Staff who are up for a vote. Please read the paragraphs, look over the examples, and see if their work is up to the quality standard we expect from all members of staff. If they are, please vote 'Yes' to this member for promotion. If they are not, please vote 'No', then explain your reasons, providing any examples which you wish to explain your reasoning.
A_Random_Day has been consistent in discussing with me regularly about how he's kept up with the pace of the work. He actually followed up a few times to ask about the details of staff membership. Here is a piece of him critting a forum draft. Here is another example. A_Random_Day tends to critique larger, structural ideas, which means he may not be as strong in fine-toothing a piece. He's sometimes busy with life and also the recent contest. I may just not be hunting around much but I don't often see his comments in articles that are about to be deleted. (From Soulless) |
ChrisAKAPiefish has been doing an excellent job keeping up posts on facebook, and has been reliable in keeping that page active and growing. His specific work focuses mainly on that site, but he also provides input to our other pages and is good at making engaging posts. Here, here, and here are some examples of his work. All of these posts, especially the death battle one, hit the maximum number of people facebook would serve that post to, and the death battle post is one of the most popular posts we've ever done on fb. dankaar is really friendly and approachable, and he’s particularly good at finding problematic feedback and addressing it through explanatory or counter-criticism posts. I can trust him to do a good job helping newer authors and feedback-givers get a feel for the site’s expectations for both writing and review standards. I’ve assigned him to do counter-crits/explanations for this thread and this thread, and recently he asked me of his own initiative if he could address this post and then did so when I gave the green light. Yay! He’s not as active as the other JS members, but I think that’s because he comments a lot on mainsite works. (From Zyn) |
Dr Hysteria is well-read in terms of existent site articles, and is pretty good at pointing out if a draft is too close to something that’s already on the site. You can see this here and here. He’s also pretty good at writing counter-crits when someone gives vague feedback, such as here. He does sometimes come off as more vehement than is needed, but he seems to have addressed that and I haven’t seen excessive harshness from him recently, as far as I remember. Activity-wise, he tends to post in bursts and then go quiet for a little. I would like to see some more consistency in regards to that. (From Zyn) |
EldritchCyanide has done a consistent job of posting on Twitter and tumblr and provides good input in our group discussions on what sort of content to post. Has been an invaluable assistant to keeping Twitter active, along with Vivax, and will be especially important while we aren't able to use Alexandra to post to the twitter automatically. These posts are all from tumblr. I would have Twitter posts to show you, but when Alex bit the dust her automated twitter posts drowned out everything and made it very difficult to go through our backlog. (From Roget) |
Jacob Conwell is an all around pleasant, easygoing person who is approachable. He provides reasonable comments and is fairly active on the chat and on the site. He's probably most active in terms of commenting on articles of the three, which is always good. This is what he had to say about the recent kaktus-TwistedGears 001 proposal. Here is something less positive he had to say on another piece. Jacob Conwell for his activity on the site and the chat, really doesn't talk to me as much as the other junior staff under me. I couldn't tell you what he thinks of certain policies on the site or where the site needs to go in terms of policy. I'm unsure if he will continue this if or when he's promoted to full operational staff. (From Soulless) |
Mistbourne is great at catching people breaking forum etiquette, and is nice enough to leave feedback in addition to telling people not to bump threads, etc, as seen here and here. They also helped compile background for an O5 report (seen here) which while more complicated than necessary was pretty helpful to me and I admire the effort spent. They were a bit absent for the holidays and one time period for personal reasons, but they give me plenty of prior notice for these things. (From Zyn) |
MrWrong is the most active JS member on Forum Crit! He’s done pretty much everything needed for the team, including counter-crit (like this) and writing O5 posts (like this) and also helping out on the forums when someone posts something in the wrong place (like this). Also if you take a look at the JS base assignments, he’s very good at addressing threads that need reviews. (From Zyn) |
Randomini has shown good initiative for wanting to get involved and helped out. A very large part of our work is done behind-the-scenes on IRC, and thus it's hard to provide links. He is a half-operator in site17, where he helps out people in there who have questions, as well as helping to kick/ban those who are breaking rules (see here and here). One CO duty is to help welcome people in the forums, which he has also done. In the CO channel, he's pitched in with ideas about team structure and contests (another duty of ours). I'm even preparing to have him help with guide rewrites and consolidation. While I fully feel that Randomini is a good fit for my team, I also feel like his talents are not fully utilized. My main initiative for putting him on my team was because he wanted to be staff and prove himself capable of such, and was willing to give being JS on Community Outreach a shot to show it. I feel he's capable and a good fit, but he's not 100% comfortably situated for the team given his skills otherwise. (From Decibelle) |
WrongJohnSilver is great at follow-up on the threads he’s left reviews on: that is, he makes sure to reply to writers if they respond to his feedback. This can also be seen with ideas threads, such as this one. He also writes some very nice explanatory posts, such as this one and this one (From Zyn). WrongJohnSilver is always willing to put in work with whatever we need, whether advising on rewrites, or brainstorming ideas for potential projects and how to approach them. While a lot of his work is behind the scenes on IRC, he reviewed and critiqued SCP-796, SCP-512, and SCP-402, and was originally brought on following his rewrite of SCP-128 and working extensively with the team on that. He has also advised with various prunings of logs, like the Log of Anomalous Items. A lot of our work is done on IRC, and WJS shows up infrequently in recent times. I am totally understanding to this for any reason, though it is a bit of a challenge. (From Decibelle) |

As usual, if you would 'neutral vote' someone, instead vote 'No.' Someone who you are ambivalent to should not receive your vote of confidence for staff. If you don't know who someone is, even after reading the above paragraph, then I strongly advise you to educate yourself and get to know their work before voting, either by asking their relevant Team Captains for more information or by clicking their name (above) and researching them yourself.
