A Latin inscription—Videtur dum videt (“It watches as it is watched”)—is etched on the back of the frame.
Anomalous effects occur when a subject maintains direct eye contact with their reflection for 20 seconds or longer. Initial responses include discomfort, the sensation of being observed, and subtle asynchrony between the subject and their reflection. After approximately 60 seconds, the reflection may begin to move independently.
