Noting that new site member
vlarg (account age 8 days, site membership 7 days) recently coldposted the following page, which has multiple obvious indicators of AI-generation: https://scp-wiki.wikidot.com/scp-8492 The Cursed Pineapple
**Item #:** SCP-8492
**Object Class:** Keter
------
**Special Containment Procedures:**
SCP-8492 is contained beneath a reinforced, privately owned structure located ███ kilometers outside Las Vegas, Nevada. Due to the object’s persistent memetic field and resistance to physical displacement, SCP-8492 has been designated unmovable. Containment is maintained via **Protocol 13R**, a ritualized pattern of human behavior initiated and sustained by proximate civilian subjects.
Foundation assets embedded in Clark County zoning and real property management offices are tasked with maintaining the physical structure and suppressing any demolition or redevelopment permits. No fewer than one (1) Foundation observer must be present on-site during any significant congregation event.
Civilians exhibiting signs of behavioral resonance with SCP-8492 are to be monitored under Protocol 47A. Induction thresholds must be assessed weekly. Subjects who reach saturation levels beyond Index-4 are to be socially isolated under Class-B disassociation protocols and transferred to remote observation.
Attempts to terminate SCP-8492 or remove it from its current location are strictly prohibited following Incident 8492-Delta.
------
**Description:**
SCP-8492 is an anomalous fruiting body resembling //Ananas comosus// (pineapple), with significant deviations in cellular resilience, internal thermogenic activity, and biochemical emission. The object was originally created under Project **AN-13**, a U.S. Department of Agriculture–adjacent black research initiative active between 1955–1958. The program’s stated goal was the development of tropical crops capable of surviving arid or irradiated climates.
Declassified materials recovered post-abandonment confirm that Project AN-13 incorporated pre-colonial Polynesian ritual models and non-Western agronomic practices, including geomantic site preparation, blood-seeding techniques, and continuous chanting during cultivation. The successful specimen — SCP-8492 — was grown in an underground test bed in Sector D-13 of the Nevada Proving Grounds.
SCP-8492 demonstrates persistent anomalous effects on nearby human cognition. Subjects within 10–15 meters report compulsions to gather, decorate, ingest fermented substances, engage in repetitive rhythmic motion, and reproduce specific symbols (e.g., crude totemic iconography, masks, hybridized Polynesian-piratical motifs). The longer the exposure, the more entrenched these behaviors become, leading to full ritual immersion and eventual identity degradation.
Subjects reaching full immersion enter a state of what Foundation analysts classify as **containment mimicry** — a subconscious effort to sustain environmental patterns believed to neutralize or pacify the object. When this behavior is interrupted or the subject is forcibly removed, acute psychological collapse typically follows.
SCP-8492 emits a low-frequency harmonic distortion, non-auditory, measurable through specific magnetospheric fluctuations within a 2 km radius. These fluctuations increase during periods of social inactivity near the object. Auditory hallucinations, intrusive thoughts, and dissociative states are commonly reported by long-term observers.
------
**Addendum 8492-A – Recovery Summary:**
SCP-8492 was recovered following a classified incident at the Nevada Proving Grounds in 1958, during which the entire AN-13 research team (12 individuals) were found deceased or catatonic in various states of ceremonial positioning around the cultivation chamber. The chamber was sealed with ███████████████ and declared unstable.
Despite decontamination efforts, within six months, unconnected civilians had constructed a private structure directly above the burial site. Analysis of their architectural and aesthetic choices revealed complete alignment with the original AN-13 containment environment, including totemic symbolism, deliberate orientation, and specific use of totemic symbology, patterned cloth, and distilled alcohol.
The site remained dormant for approximately ███ years, when residential development was approved on the perimeter of the original containment perimeter. Structures began appearing closer to the epicenter of SCP-8492’s memetic influence radius.
Current containment is maintained through the cooperation of the civilian homeowner, designated Agent ████████ [Ref: Clearance Code 8492-BR-Alpha], who unknowingly initiated containment mimicry behavior prior to formal assignment. Following on-site observation and post-facto clearance review, the Foundation has formally assigned Agent ████████ as the active civilian operative responsible for upholding **Protocol 13R**. Site has been reclassified as **Embedded Containment Node 8492/13R**.
Attempts to forcibly relocate SCP-8492 or extinguish its field resulted in two separate mass psychogenic events and one presumed suicide pact (see Incident 8492-Delta). No further removal efforts are to be attempted.

**Addendum 8492-D – Incident Report 8492-Delta**
> **Date: 08/14/1986**
>
> **Summary:** During a routine re-evaluation of inactive AN-class projects, Foundation personnel initiated a covert extraction operation to remove SCP-8492 from its burial chamber in Sector D-13 for off-site analysis and deactivation.
> ----
> The operation was aborted when personnel began reporting synchronized dream phenomena involving:
>
> # A burning altar surrounded by fruit-bearing effigies;
> # Droning chants in unknown dialects with identifiable Polynesian phonetic patterns;
> # Visions of spiraling foliage growing through concrete.
>
> On 08/20/1986, Lead Agent ████ was discovered deceased in Foundation vehicle ███-22 parked 4.6 km from the site perimeter, SCP-8492 in his lap. Autopsy revealed cranial hemorrhaging consistent with high-grade memetic feedback. A secondary agent later entered a fugue state, inscribing containment runes along the chamber exterior before collapsing.
>
> Re-containment was achieved by reinterment of SCP-8492 and complete resealing of Sector D-13. A temporary watchpost was established at the site, staffed by rotating low-clearance personnel assigned to monitor seismic, magnetic, and memetic indicators. Though activity levels declined steadily, periodic auditory hallucinations and localized vegetation anomalies were logged through the 1990s. The watchpost was decommissioned in 2003 following a decade of quiescence and reclassified as low-risk pending further review.
>
> This dormancy ended following civilian residential development in 2020, culminating in the accidental reactivation of containment mimicry patterns by the current homeowner in 2025.

**Addendum 8492-E – Field Transcript Excerpt**
> **Date:** 07/03/2025
>
> **Participants:** Field Agent L. Moreno, Junior Analyst D. Feng
>
> **Location:** Embedded Containment Node 8492/13R perimeter
> ---
> **Feng:** Is that… a tiki bar?
>
> **Moreno:** Yeah. Backyard build. Gazebo, pirate decor, torches. The works.
>
> **Feng:** You’re kidding. That’s the containment structure?
>
> **Moreno:** It meets all required mnemonic-symbolic criteria. Fire, communal gathering, fruit-based ethanol, ritual chants… usually from a Bluetooth speaker. Subject built it all on his own.
>
> **Feng:** That’s absurd.
>
> **Moreno:** It’s effective. Harmonics dropped by 37% once the bocce court was installed. Don’t question the fruit.
>
> **Feng:** Still. It feels… flippant.
>
> **Moreno:** So does memetic collapse, but nobody complains about that until the hallucinations start. Let him host his cursed parties. It works.
>
> **Feng:** …Is that a cursed cocktail menu?
>
> **Moreno:** Classified. But yes.
------
**Current Status:**
SCP-8492 remains dormant but active. Memetic radiation persists. Civilian rituals currently suffice for pacification. Disruption of social patterns or intentional removal of the object is projected to result in **uncontrolled ontological breach**.
**Note:** There is no known safe method of terminating SCP-8492. Continued ritual containment is the only known stabilizing protocol. Compliance with **Protocol 13R** is mandatory.

Of note, the user replied to reader comments multiple times lying about their usage of AI:

I wrote this. What fingerprints do you think you see?
[reader then posted comment]
I'm always wondering whether it's better to explain how I, or anyone else, thinks about making calls on AI use, because blah blah blah it shows your hand, and then the LLM gets better at it, but that happens anyways, I suppose.
There is a lot of overuse of certain phrases and verbiage that is right in line with what LLMs think qualifies as good science writing. One weird thing is that AIs still have no fuckin' clue how to use the word "ontological" in an SCP article sentence, but absolutely love to do it.
The structure is completely wonky. The article cares more about setting up technical minutae than it does exploring them, or introducing a narrative. LLMs tend to do this "intentionally," to the extent that intent can be ascribed to an LLMs, to obfuscate not actually knowing anything, because they can't actually know things.
The pithy researcher's end note addition at the end of "It's not X. It's Y but Z." is absolutely 100% the shit that AI/LLM does to try to be mindblowing. Something like "All this time, we thought we were trying to contain it. We were wrong. It was trying to contain us. And god help us all, it has failed."

There is a point to the flowery technobabble and the structure. It's to make a very complicated set up for the exceedingly simple explanation of what the SCP actually turns out to be about: just a tiki bar built over a cursed pineapple, which is just silly.
The phrases used were inspired by many other SCPs I found to be entertaining. If I unknowingly imitated other popular SCPs written by AI, well that's simply not my fault. I like the word "ontological".
The pithy note at the end is to make it sound creepy. If that comes off passe, I'm happy to accept notes. I'm happy to accept any helpful notes.
What I'm not happy to do is accept un-constructive criticism.
