**Elevator Pitch**
Its the winter of 2039 in sunny Southern California where winters are mild and snow only falls at sea level once every 20 years or so. There was nothing to indicate that year's winter would take an anomalous turn of SCP proportion when suddenly across Southern California from the inland valleys to the coast temperatures began plummeting below freezing. Forecasts for winter certainly showed nothing out of the ordinary except that it would have been a La Nina Year. Which is why a sudden snow storm caught everyone off guard, especially in a region historically immune to such weather. Foundation intervention reveals that the storm may be the reawakening of a long-buried pre-Christian folkloric entity — possibly the origin of Northern European frost giant legends — now reasserting itself via a mass-scale weather anomaly.
**Central Narrative:**
The article unfolds to a creeping dread as various local, state, federal and the Foundation desperately attempt to identify, isolate, and suppress an unnatural winter weather phenomenon that behaves like an intelligent predator. A Foundation agent embedded at the Carson Sheriff’s Station report auditory hallucinations, visual distortions, and a frost-covered entity watching from mirrors and snowbanks.
A Foundation MTF team later recovers a body cam at the station which reveals footage from a deputy on call at the local university just before the event, showing a ritual manuscript at the University of California Dominguez Hills history department. Its older than Norse mythology even though it bears the hallmarks of Norse paganism. Ultimately its a primordial entity worshipped or feared by forgotten northern tribes. Recovered EVP recordings and body cam footage show foundation agent and surviving deputies confronting something impossible to physically define or contain. The cold is not just weather — it's alive, and it remembers.
**Hook/Attention-Grabber**
//“The cold has eyes.”//
Final footage from Deputy Chen shows a translucent, frost-veiled entity. Its unnaturally tall with very disproportionately elongated limbs behind his reflection — one that vanishes when he turns around but manifests itself through the peripheral vision. His last words: “They want us to look back."
**Additional Notes**
Entity mentioned as Frost Giants in Norse mythology but the entity itself dates further back to unidentified proto-European cult ultimately originating possibly to the last glacial maximum (Ice Age)
This entity influences atmospheric systems on a wide scale over Southern California with global catastrophic potential. Its traits are similar to a Class-IV memetic/cognitohazard.
I think it could have a potential tie-in to a larger mythos involving anomalous climate manipulation with strong potential for additional spin-offs.

Unhoused residents endure subfreezing temperatures as unprecedented snowfall grips Southern California for the second consecutive winter.
Local shelters report capacity overrun; emergency response remains delayed.

**Special Containment Procedures:** There are perhaps few places in the world where you can surf, hike and ski all in one day than in Southern California, and as the winter of 2039 approached there was nothing to indicate any deviation from the state's near perfect climate that would forever alter this California "trifecta." Originating in Southern California, SCP-XXXX is identified as an anomalous meteorological event that caused the normally temperate region of the state to plunge into abnormally prolonged subfreezing temperatures. Heavy snowfall persists over a large area of the state’s coastal regions to the inland valleys. With emergency response being unable to reach affected areas, civilian casualties are expected to exceed 48,000. Physical containment is impossible due to its scale and magnitude and has shown no signs of abating. Widespread infrastructure collapse extends over much of Southern California with estimated damages surpassing $20 billion USD. Long term economic losses are only expected to rise as the current atmospheric condition remains unstable. Power grids, transportation systems, and communication networks have all been rendered inoperable. Relief and logistical operations are severely impaired despite the declaration of local, state and federal state of emergency.

**Hell Freezes Over**
Snow blankets downtown L.A. as city plunges into its coldest winter in recorded history.
“It’s not natural,” one CHP officer says. “It’s like something’s watching us through the snow.”
[[/div]]
Foundation personnel who are embedded with local and state agencies, particularly those working with police, fire, and EMS have been instructed to monitor SCP-XXXX’s development via the use of satellite and ground sensors continuously.
Any information regarding the origin of SCP-XXX and its possible nature is to be strictly controlled by means of disinformation assets. This includes social media blackouts and natural disaster cover narratives.
Mass evacuations are to be prevented to reduce public panic. Foundation Mobile Task Forces are placed on standby for rapid deployment to Southern California in the event that SCP__XXXX produce secondary anomalous effects beyond its current radius, Global Contingency Directive OTH-99 (“Ragnarök Threshold”) may be considered pending approval by the O5 Council.
**Description:** Beginning on 12/ 21/2039, an anomalous weather pattern over Southern California was initiated by SCP-XXXX. Unlike typical regional weather fluctuations it brought sustained below freezing temperatures averaging 28°F (-2.2°C) to areas and regions with historically mild and temperate climates including Los Angeles, Torrance, Carson, and surrounding coastal cities.
Patterns of heavy snowfall have been observed in Southern California over a four week period. At peak periods the accumulation rate has surpassed 5 inches (12.7cm) per hour. Snow continues to fall nightly, and full blizzard conditions have persisted for more than 48 consecutive hours — something never before recorded in this region.
Satellite thermal imaging and ground-based sensors have picked up rapidly descending masses of extreme cold air from the upper atmosphere, with some areas reporting temperatures as low as -50°F (-45.5°C). These weather systems are exhibiting atypical signs of localized thermal inversions and cold zones with temperatures at well below -20°F (-28.9°C) over extended periods.
In the past four weeks significant record-breaking snowfall has been reported consistently, with accumulations exceeding 5 inches (12.7 cm) per hour during peak conditions. As of 01/31/2038 nightly snowfall persists with blizzard conditions lasting for over 48 hours straight, a new record for the area.
**Addendum XXXX-1:**
Anomalous Electromagnetic and Acoustic Phenomena.
During SCP-XXXX events, multiple electromagnetic disturbances have been recorded.
The interference occurs on every VHF and UHF emergency communications band - this always takes the form of bursts of static that each contain debris of irregular pulses that look like (but are not described as) a code.
Electronic devices such as television sets have spontaneously activated independent of power sources or manual activation. Unsubstantiated reports include television screens that display fleeting cryptic text messages before shutting off.
These acoustic phenomena are described by embedded agents and civilian reports as“whispering” voices. Though they are often indistinct, occasionally they are intelligible enough to make out names or phrases.
These phenomena have been confirmed via multiple independent sensors, ruling out equipment malfunction.

**Note:** According to Dr. Einar Guðmundsson, judging from the grammar and phrasing, the speaker may possibly be utilizing an archaic linguistic structure which is typically associated with Proto-Norse. For example, The form of the pronoun “yðvarr” (your) is extremely rare in the written context and is found only in fragmentary sources dating from the 7th–8th centuries CE. Dr. Guðmundsson theorizes that the speech of the entity may be related to a little known culture that predates recorded Norse mythology.
**This theory is still Under Investigation:**
SCP-XXXX may be the source of a large-scale geomagnetic anomaly that may affect upper atmospheric conditions.
**Conclusion:**
SCP-XXXX should be considered a significant threat to civilian populations and critical infrastructure due to extreme weather and associated anomalous phenomena. Further observation and heightened readiness for rapid response are required Research into the mitigation or reversal of SCP-XXXX is still ongoing.

BEGIN LOG
22:03– I Arrived at Carson Substation via Foundation-modified civilian SUV equipped for extreme cold-weather operations. My vehicle sensors record the temperature at time of arrival at -28°C and wind speeds of excess 90 km/h with limited visibility —roads are worse than satellite feeds showed. Wind nearly ripped the door off the rig when I stepped out.Immediately the wind chills packed a stinging sensation. Everything’s frozen over; asphalt is slippery with ice The main access bay was cleared manually by station deputies prior to arrival.
The place is more like Mineapolis than Southern California. Deputy Chen guided me through the vehicle bay so I could pull in. Some deputies looked surprised to see Foundation insignia. I didn’t explain much—just introduced myself as Agent John Myers from “Homeland Weather Security,”
My badge said it all. I left it at that.
The station is operational, most deputies working overtime with no sleep and zero rotation. I admire the effort but dispatch is backed up. They’ve been pulling bodies from jackknifed semis and black-ice pile-ups since sundown. I passed a few accidents along the way, despite the lockdown. Captain Holt told me his deputies have responded to seventeen accidents in less than four hours already, five of which were fatalities. And that’s just the calls that got through.
2210–Interior’s holding, but barely. Heat is patchy.
Station personnel strength: 12 deputies, 3 in holding cell supervision, 5 civilian detainees, 1 civilian in distress, requiring medical attention for early onset hypothermia. Says he walked from the I 405 to the station when his car stalled. [Redacted] Claims there were ghosts following him through the snow. I’m suspecting exposure to anomalous external effects during transport).
The Station is operating on an internal diesel backup generator despite rolling brownouts and wind factor affecting auxiliary lighting and comms tower. The Deputy in dispatch—Martinez—has been trying to reach two patrol units for the last hour, Carson 43 Adam and Carson 51 Boy, both unresponsive. Station dispatch is receiving static only. Several other units are also unaccounted for. Contact with unit 51 David remains faint and intermittent.
22:24–With Captain Holt’s permission I have accessed the station’s radio repeater terminal and installed Foundation encryption protocol [REDACTED] to attempt long-range comms relay with Mobile Task Force Zeta 29, currently deployed in South Bay containment perimeter. Signal remains disrupted by atmospheric interference.
23:15–Sheriff’s personnel are holding together as best they can, but deputies are on edge, unable to contact their families.
One Deputy—Corporal Ellis—won’t stop staring at the external western surveillance camera feed. He said, “It blinked.” When I asked him what blinked, he just said “The snow.” I reviewed the tape. There’s a single frame glitch: all the frost on the window pulls inward like it’s breathing.
23:36 Hours
Situation Status:
Generator fuel reserves are running at 38%.
Due to ice distortion and thermal fogging exterior surveillance equipment is intermittently non-functional
Emergency food rations allocated for 48 hours.
Personnel morale is stable, though visibly strained.
Deputy Martinez reported movement on the roof at 23:40, but I am unable to confirm. No footprints found. [Note] With wind gusts, footprints unlikely to remain.
Heat differential sensors detecting brief “cold spikes” at the perimeter fence – temperatures dropping below measurable threshold before rebounding. Security cam timestamp anomalies noted.
**Recommendations:**
Commence silent lockdown procedures under Foundation Protocol D-5 ("Frost Veil") if contact with remaining patrol units is not reestablished by 01:00. All deputies will be briefed on potential visual and auditory cognitohazard triggers. SCP-__ suppression team en route, ETA unknown due to road obstructions. Air insertion is not possible due to zero visibility, and magnetic field disturbances in Southland corridors.
**Field Report:** Embedded SCP Agent (Designation: Agent Myers)
**Location:** Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department – Carson Station
**Coordinates:** ████████, Avalon Blvd, Carson, CA
Date: 01/06/2039
Clearance Level: 4+
24:01– The frost forms in shapes that don’t match the windows. It creeps along the inside of the glass now. We scrape it off, and it forms again in seconds. It repeats the same branching patterns. Always the same.
One of the deputies — Morales, I think — keeps staring at the exterior surveillance feed of the parking lot. Says he saw someone. After a thorough sweep of the area by three deputies, found nothing but snowdrifts.
Morales swears there was a figure. Said it was tall — unnaturally tall, head near the top of the floodlight pole. Not bulky, not wide. Just wrong. Thin where it shouldn’t be. Long arms that hung too low.
The most peculiar description Morales noted was that the figure had what looked like antlers. Said it didn’t move. Didn’t shiver, head was tilted — like it was trying to listen.
Morales tried to laugh it off after. He hasn't looked at the surveillance feed since.
I believe him.
Something is watching this place. I can feel it pressing against the walls. Not trying to break in. Just… waiting. Like it knows time is on its side.
24:08– I checked the camera feed. Nothing. But for three seconds the screen went white. Not static but more like a snowblind flash with a silhouette in the middle.
The system auto-looped over it. I tried to pause, but it skipped ahead like it didn’t want to be seen.
24:20– Temperature inside the holding area has dropped sharply by 6°C in less than 90 seconds, despite internal heating systems still functioning. Condensation observed forming on interior glass. Deputy Haines reports “breath fog” lingering unnaturally in the air — hovering for over 14 seconds before dispersing.
24:30– Deputy Calderón returns from parking lot perimeter sweep. Claims he heard someone whispering under the snow. Describes it as “like someone just beneath the crust, voices muffled and unintelligible. ” No visual contact made. Deputy’s feet confirmed frostbitten despite standard-issue thermal footwear.
24:37– Deputy Lewis reports persistent knocking sounds from the interior wall near generator room. Claims it’s “coming from the cinderblock,” not the other side of it. No physical indentations or source found. Sound fails to register on handheld audio equipment. Three deputies corroborate hearing it.
24:50 – Staff restroom mirror fogs over spontaneously. Frost crystal patterns forming on glass surface — vaguely resembling runes or fractured lettering. Deputy Aranda begins tracing them unconsciously with her fingertips.
Another deputy intervenes immediately, pulling her hand away.
Several minutes later, Aranda suffers an acute dissociative episode. She reports a vivid and overwhelming out-of-body sensation—describing in detail that she was (“inside a body that wasn’t mine.) She described her hands bound behind her back, kneeling in a clearing surrounded by chanting men in furs and wooden masks. She began screaming uncontrollably, clutching at her throat.
Deputy is clearly in pain.
Between sobs, she describes the agony of “cold hands holding my head, and a knife going across my throat. She was sedated and removed from duty. Psychiatric containment recommended.
______________________________________________________________________
**Addendum SCPXXXX-3 – Cross-Referential Analysis:**
Forensic tests conducted on Aranda’s uniform revealed inexplicable trace levels of peat residue, despite the fact that she had never left the building. Linguistic staff cross-referenced her verbal account with that of Northern European Iron Age tribal rituals, including sacrificial rites conducted to appease gods during climactic or existential crises.
Video and audio surveillance of the event also reveals a brief but pronounced hum in the station’s electrical systems which coincided with deputy Aranda's episode. These surges also matche similar documented surges during previous anomalous events.
Following Deputy Aranda's dissociative experience account regarding Iron Age bog sacrifice ritual, a Level 3 archivist ran a correlation research through Foundation archives. The results yielded multiple partial hits of temporal or memetic overlap with earlier SCPs and low-risk anomalous events:
**SCP-███-D ("The Murmuring Soil")**
— Found in northern Jutland, Denmark, are spontaneous psychic impressions of human sacrifice and ritual drowning experienced near wetlands. Interviewed subjects report "being remembered by the earth" and a sensation of temporary loss of body identity. The language bears a striking similarity to Deputy Aranda's verbal report during debriefing: "It was me, but I was ancient. I died a long time ago.
2 —Unnumbered file: In 1995 a murder victim was discovered in Southern Denmark whose killing resembled that of "Tollund Man" a 5th century BCE bog mummy that was unearthed in the 1950s. Danish police later arrested several suspects who were described as being under "anomalous compulsion." Audio recordings of their interrogation included chants in Old Norse, matching partial transcription from the Carson Station ice-rune incident.
**Addendum SCPXXXX-4**:
Foundation Cultural Anthropology Division, in consultation with the Anomalous History Division states that SCP-XXXX may have retromemetic or psycho temporal resonance effects compelling those who come into contact with it to relive sacrificial rites from ancestral memory — possibly as a form of communication.
Request for additional testing is pending Ethics Committee approval. Cross-site memetic lockdown is strongly urged to prevent propagation.

Recovered Log (continued) — Embedded Foundation Agent Myers
Location: LASD Carson Station (Avalon Blvd)
Date:Clearance Level: 4+
01:00 – Unidentified shadows observed by several deputies moving against light sources in the hallway leading to the cafeteria — motion inconsistent with any personnel movement. Described as “fluttering,” but silent. No heat signatures recorded. Agent confirms full body chills and nausea during this observation.
01:10 – Emergency red lighting triggers in east hallway without manual activation. Surveillance feed shows no movement or temperature spike. Motion sensor log blank. Light remains active for exactly 66 seconds before returning to normal. Power grid shows no fluctuation during that time.
01:21– Several deputies gathered in the station cafeteria attempt to activate the wall-mounted television to access live news or emergency broadcasts. Television remains unresponsive despite multiple attempts with both the remote and manual controls. Power supply confirmed stable; circuit breaker intact.
01:23–Approximately thirty seconds after final activation attempt, the screen powers on unaided — no input signal detected. Screen displays grainy black-and-white static, then briefly resolves into a live feed of the station’s own cafeteria viewed from an elevated corner angle not corresponding to any known security camera position. [Video timestamp flickers erratically, alternating between unreadable characters and a repeating date string: —17.02.312 BCE.]
01:27–movement is detected on the display. In the footage, the room is empty, though the real deputies present at the time confirm seeing themselves onscreen Figures begin to appear one by one, emerging from the walls, floor vents, and corners of the cafeteria — tall, thin-limbed silhouettes, faceless and humanoid in form but out of proportion: arms too long, heads slightly too narrow, posture angled unnaturally forward as if resisting an unseen wind.
Their movements are erratic and irregular, skipping frames like corrupted tape. Frost appears to form on the inside of the TV screen. One figure stands directly in front of where Deputy McNiel is seated in real life, raising one arm and mimicking the act of reaching out — though nothing is physically present in the cafeteria.
01:30 Audio activates independently — a multilayered whispering track of what I believe to be Old Norse or archaic form of a west Germanic language.
01:44. During my interview of Deputy McNiel in Captain Holt’s office, he states one figure on-screen stood precisely where he was seated, staring directly into the camera. No corresponding figure was seen in the room. At 01:35, the feed cuts to black. Television remains nonfunctional despite power cycling.
**Agent’s Note:**
McNiel asked why the air smelled like scorched pine needles. Deputy wouldn’t stop pacing. Said he heard the screen breathing. Said it hated us for forgetting what we’ve done to the winter.
The psychological strain on personnel is becoming more evident as the environmental and perceptual anomalies escalate. Some of the deputies are coping through routine to occupy their minds-filing ghost reports, drinking bad coffee, four have started a spontaneous game of cards pretending like it’s still just a bad winter. But the coldness outside is growing heavier. It’s like a weight pressing against the walls.
______________________________________________________________________
**Addendum SCPXXXX-5—** Linguistic Analysis of Audio Captured from Televised Event (Ref: Cafeteria Incident 01:23-01:35):
Portions of the whispering audio track accompanying the anomalous broadcast were isolated and submitted for analysis to Dr. Einar Guðmundsson of the Foundation’s Icelandic Field Translation Unit. The linguist identified the dominant language as a heavily archaic form of Old Norse, consistent with pre-Christian skaldic phrasing:
“Hann svaf undir ísinum, þá er menn óttuðust enn vetur jarðar...”
He slept beneath the ice, back when men still feared the winters of the earth…
“Hann gaf hlýju svo hann gæti tekið hana aftur…”
He gave warmth so he could take it back…
//“Hann man reykinn... svartan himininn... öskrandi dýr úr járni og eldi…”//
He remembers the smoke... the black sky... the screaming beasts of iron and fire…
The second line is especially troubling. ‘screaming beasts of iron and fire’ — appears to be an allegorical description. Based on context and phonetic cadence, it is plausible the entity is recalling modern human activity through metaphor: likely aircraft or combustion engines. The phrase ‘black sky’ paired with ‘smoke’ strongly suggests atmospheric pollution or warfare. This reinforces the hypothesis that the entity — or entities — have existed through deep time, absorbing environmental trauma across ages and its pushing back.

01:50–Deputy Aranda’s condition escalated again, convulsing in full-body spasms as if being pulled in two directions. Took three of us to restrain her. Eyes rolled back, and attempted to speak. She kept whispering in a wet garbled word I didn’t understand — “blótkaldur,” I think — over and over. Her skin temperature dropped to 31°C even under thermal blankets. Medical scan showed no neurological anomalies, but her EEG lit up like she was dreaming through every part of her brain at once.
**[Linguistic Note: SCP Foundation linguist Dr. Einar Guðmundsson has provisionally translated "blótkaldur" from Old Norse as “the cold that demands blood” or “sacrificial chill.”]**
01:57– Martinez at dispatch briefly establishes contact with 43-Adam, one of the last patrol units unaccounted for. [Transmission fragmented but preserved via emergency channel buffer and transcribed by Foundation audio monitoring systems].
There are no other LASD or mutual aid units available to respond. All patrol resources in the region are either missing, non-communicative, or presumed lost in the storm. Carson Station is effectively isolated.
I can feel pressure building inside the station, not just from the anomaly trying to claw its way at the edge of everyone’s sanity but from the inside. The moment Martinez got static-laced contact with 43-Adam, the whole station changed. The air felt tighter. Deputies immediately wanted to roll, clustered around dispatch like moths on a bulb.
Martinez is pale. He keeps the headset on, but I can see his hands trembling. Doesn’t say anything at first — just stares at the console like he’s waiting for the transmission to restart. It doesn’t.
Deputy Chen checks the repeater logs, but 43-Adam’s last ping put them less than a mile east, near the shutdown I-405 entrance. I asked Martinez what he heard that wasn’t in the transcript. Het shakes his head “There was something breathing on the channel. Not them. Bigger.”
I watched Captain Holt standing at the center of dispatch. Chen was the first to speak up — said he could take Morales and push east. Said they knew the roads. Said they couldn’t just “leave them out there.”
Holt shut it down flat. He Told Chen: “I’m not digging another cruiser out of a drift in this condition.”
I could see it in Holt’s eyes though. He wanted to send them–wanted to believe 43-Adam was somewhere out there, wheels turning, hoping for headlights. But he knew better. He knows what we all feel — whatever’s outside… it doesn’t care. And it doesn't need them alive.

Time: 0200 PST.
______________________________________________________________
02:00–Captain Holt called me into his office and closed the door behind me. For nearly a minute, he said nothing — just stood there staring at me, No jacket, sleeves rolled up like he was pretending the freezing conditions outside weren’t real.
Finally, he spoke:
“So tell me. Who are you really with? CIA? NSA? Something black-budget I’m not cleared to know about?”
He phrased it as a question, but really — a statement. I remained quiet.
He pointed at the window that had frosted over completely. But not randomly — the ice was forming symbols. Same geometry we found etched into the mirror in the staff bathroom just before
Aranda collapsed screaming about the chanting men. Outside, snow swirled like ash.
“I’ve been here twenty-seven years. I’ve seen everything — earthquakes, floods, fires. But this? This isn’t just weather.” I stayed quiet. He continued: “You didn’t flinch the moment you stepped out of your vehicle. Didn’t react when we lost contact with seven units. One of my deputies just lost her mind screaming about her throat being slit in a forest by a group of men speaking a dead language, and you’re just writing it down like some kind of shrink.
The Captain leaned closer towards me, voice low but tense.
“I’ve got two deputies begging to head out for 43-Adam. I have dead civilians frozen in their cars, the deputies I still have out there probably dead among them. Radios running on backup power. And now, you want to pretend you don’t know what this is?”
Holt walked over to the map on the wall—“Seven patrol cars unaccounted for. And you’re calm.
“What the hell is blótkaldur, Agent?”
I didn’t answer. He stepped closer.
“You’re not here for paperwork about the weather. You’re not here to help us restore radio contact. You’re here because you knew something like this might happen.”
He gestured to the window. The symbols were pulsing faintly now — breathing cold into the room.
“If something out there is coming after my people and this station I want to know.”
I gave him the Foundation line: transient atmospheric disturbance, unusual solar inversion, coordination with FEMA in progress.
He didn’t buy it. I didn’t expect him to.
I turned to leave Holt’s office, a deep cracking noise rolled through the ceiling.
Holt sat back down, staring at the door after me.
This place is cracking. And Holt knows it.
**Agent Note:**
I’ve filed a Level-2 briefing clearance for all remaining station personnel. They need to be brought into partial confidence — the psychological toll of ignorance is proving worse than exposure to the anomaly itself. They deserve to know what’s really happening before it’s too late.
Contingency clause appended: Should any station personnel survive until extraction by MTF Zeta-29, Class B amnestics are to be administered per Post-Incident Cognitive Integrity Directive (PICID/13-Alpha). Full memory erasure of SCP-XXXX-related phenomena will be conducted following debrief. Civilian and law enforcement personnel will be reassigned or discharged under cover protocols (natural disaster trauma, carbon monoxide exposure, etc.).
Until then, they need clarity — not the truth, but something close enough to hold the line.
No word from 43-Adam since the last contact.
Deputy Aranda is sedated again.

02:16—Field Log – Agent Myers
**Timestamp**: 0216 PST
**Location:** Carson Sheriff's Station, Roll Call Room
**Clearance:** Level-2 Containment Briefing, Protocol Ibis-7
Status: Initiated.
____________________________________________________
02:16–Per finalization of Ibis-7 protocol I requested all available deputies to assemble in the roll call room. Attendance included Captain Holt, Deputies Haines, Chen, McNiel, Ruiz, Martinez, Morales, and Lewis. 8 total personnel. Two are on inmate supervision duty, Morrison is with Deputy Aranda who has been sedated and restrained and moved to Captain Holt’s office.
Room sealed, lights dimmed. Emergency backup generators are still functional.
Captain Holt was the last to enter. He did not speak initially, but his eyes never left mine.
**Briefing Summary:**
All personnel in attendance were informed that the blizzard is not a naturally occurring phenomenon. Everything including the drop in temperature, the electromagnetic interference, and spatial rifts are part of a large-scale supernatural weather phenomenon, SCP-XXXX. I explained that containment is impossible due to its scale and the current Foundation capabilities. However, survival is still statistically possible with careful preparation and coordination.
I projected portions of visual telemetry taken from Foundation drone sweeps as well as grainy footage of runic frost formations overtaking external surfaces - the same shapes that appeared on interior glass, bathroom mirrors, and now station windows. Several deputies recoiled at the footage. Morales swore under his breath.
When deputies asked what “it” is, exactly, I gave them the most they could handle:
“There are entities older than human civilization. They are buried in eons of the planet’s history. This is not a storm. It’s a return. Something is waking up, and it doesn’t like what we’ve done to the planet.”
Expressions on the deputies’ faces range from perplexed and unamused but every eye fixed forward on me.
“The Norse had a name for them — hrímþursar, the Frost Giants. But that’s folklore trying to explain something older that humans can’t understand- something more terrifying. These aren’t gods or monsters in the traditional mythic sense. Calling them Frost Giants is just a personification we’ve given something more abstract. They’re environmental apex entities — sentient cold, primordial and territorial…”
-“Is that what Morales saw through the parking lot surveillance? He said it was as tall as the flood light pole?”
I just nodded my head and continued. “They’ve brought five extinction-level Ice Ages in the past. Each time, they were reacting to natural warming trends — slow shifts in solar output, tectonic drift, long-scale atmospheric change. But this time is different. This time they’re reacting to us. To greenhouse gasses we’ve released into the atmosphere since the start of the industrial revolution, the melting polar ice caps, to burning forests and artificial warmth. And they’re not adapting. They’re retaliating.”
I paused for a moment to gather my thoughts, looking for the right words but before daylight we’ll all either be dead or their memories erased by the Foundation, so I just said it.
“The last time one of them fully stirred, the world froze to the equator 650 million years ago. Sunlight couldn’t reach the surface. Life barely held on.”
Ruiz asked if we could fight it. I told him no — but we can hold.
0230—Silence held for several long seconds after the debrief. Then Captain Holt finally asked:
“Why the runes? Why Old Norse scratching Viking graffiti into my mirrors. Why that language and half the weird shit we've heard has been in some ancient dialect none of us speak. If this thing predates humanity... why the hell would it be talking like Vikings?”
I answered, "Because that’s the last time anyone knew how to talk to it. These entities communicate through resonance, pattern, and environmental symbology — whatever leaks through is translated subconsciously by the human mind into the oldest reference point it can tether meaning to. Simply put, the ancestors of what we would come to call the Norse, were the last people to talk to it, worship it, and even sacrifice people to it.
Silence followed. Holt didn’t ask for further clarification —he just nodded, once.

**Field Log**
**Designation:** Agent Myers
**Timestamp:** 03:15 PST
**Location:** Carson Sheriff's Station
Post briefing status
____________________________________
0315— Personnel understood what was at stake. None expressed any doubts. They’re beyond doubting at this point. They’re numb, not just from the deep freeze outside, but numb at the thought that if frost giants from mythology are real, what else could be real? They have no idea.
0316–Holt divided the remaining personnel into rotating shifts: two-person patrols in main hallways, two deputies stationed in the communications room to monitor emergency channels, and others distributed to defend the entry points — primarily the front public entrance, the vestibule between the lobby and hallway, and the detainee transfer garage.
Outside, visibility has dropped below five feet. Snowfall isn’t natural — it moves in patterns, deliberate and slow, like searching hands. Windows on the south side are now opaque with frost. Motion-triggered floodlights keep flickering. Deputies now know what’s causing it. After Ibis-7 protocol briefing, no one now doubted their own sanity.
0318–All personnel have been expressly ordered not to move through the station by themselves. No exceptions. Wandering off alone — even for just a few minutes — has correlated with anomalous manifestations, the worst being Deputy Aranda’s episode. I reiterated this twice. The halls feel wider now, like something unseen is watching for breaks in the line.
0320 – Lighting in detainee holding cells began pulsing erratically. Electrical diagnostics returned a null signal. When Chen investigated, he found all six holding cells iced over. Inside the second cell which is vacant he found frozen footprints leading to the center of the room.
Cell 1: Inmate rocking in place, muttering to the wall and striking his head intermittently. Wouldn’t respond to verbal cues.
**Cell 3:** Grouped detainees had pressed themselves into a corner. One began humming a slow, unfamiliar tune. None would make eye contact.
**Cell 4:** Inmate standing rigid, eyes open, murmuring in what sounded like Old Norse. Audio picked up fragments that translate roughly to: “Frost is wrathful… southern blood burns… memory wakes.”
**Agent note:**
_________________________________________________
//Thermal overlay revealed no heat signatures in any of the occupied cells, despite continued visible breath condensation and movement. Remaining two cells (5 and 6) remain sealed and inaccessible due to ice expansion compromising door mechanismsDeputies on detention duty maintain they saw nothing out of the ordinary.//
__________________________________________________
0350 – Ruiz and Kim reported movement near the north stairwell. Sounded like whispering — “like someone speaking through sleet.” They followed protocol and called it in before approaching. Upon inspection: all stairwell walls marked with shallow frost lines, runes forming in symmetrical patterns. Same symbols from staff mirror. I confirmed: blótkaldur glyph work. Agent Translation: “blood cold” or “sacrificial frost.”
0400– I’ve been observing abnormal power fluctuations. The station has lost power and is currently operating on an internal backup generator. Emergency lights remain operational. Perimeter lamps cycling intermittently, possibly due to electromagnetic interference. Snow has reached 66 inches against the south-facing exits. Doors are frozen shut and all contacts with patrol units caught in the storm have been lost.
0416– Failed Attempt to re-establish contact with HQ. VHF and encrypted satellite uplinks did not respond. Picked up a lot of garbled military jabber on emergency frequency 155.07 MHz. **Intermittent phrases include:**
//Orion-2-1, fall back to Charlie-Five. Evac en route. Say again—fall back, [static] over!
Negative, no egress. Visibility down to zero…//.**[unintelligible]**
0419- Deputies Morales and Chen, convinced Holt to allow them to use the patrol SUV in the rear parking lot to establish an external link. They could not get the vehicle to start. Moments after, the unit’s rear-view camera captured a humanoid figure about 2.7 meters tall (8.8 ft) which stood motionless in the snow approximately about 8 meters from rear bumper. It vanished in the subsequent frame. No tracks found at location.
0425 – Station sensors detect external air temperature reading -29°F. Windows are beginning to frost from within and snow is piling audibly loud against our southern and eastern walls. We’re hearing faint structural cracks at irregular intervals. Deputies visibly agitated. Several deputies have reported feeling of “ear pressure as in mountain descent,” yet no change in altimeter readings.
0427— Weather anomaly escalating, both in frequency and in severity. Data sensors damaged by outside temperature. Some deputies report a knocking sound on skylights even though no roof access exists from the outside and heavy snow coverage. Agent reviewed closed-circuit; verified weak thumping in sync with straining structural integrity. Roof was not designed for substantial snow load. Cave-in may be imminent.
0430– A brief power surge in the emergency generator then flickered out resulting in total blackout for approximately 14 seconds. All internal surveillance feeds cut out. Manual logs confirm station-wide disorientation, followed by screams in the direction of Holt’s office.
0432–Power restored partially but only two hallway lights are functional. Audio system reactivated briefly on its own, broadcasting a garbled male voice repeating “They see through the frost.” Playback ended abruptly. No source file found on system storage.
Lewis and McNiel attempted to check the status of Deputy Aranda, who had been sedated earlier and left under the supervision of Deputy Morrison in Captain Wilson’s office.
Upon entry—the following were discovered:
No sign of Deputy Morrison and no sign of struggle.
Deputy Aranda was found upright in the far corner of the office, pressed against the frosted windowpane.
She was no longer sedated, screaming hysterically upon entry—initially unintelligible. When physically restrained, her vocalizations shifted abruptly into unidentified chanting.
Deputy McNiel sustained some minor lacerations attempting to restrain her. Aranda was unresponsive to sedatives for a total of 6 minutes when administered.
Despite a thorough search of the station, Deputy Morrison remained unaccounted for.
0445 – Anomalous presence in the dispatch corridor is reported by Deputy Martinez who claims to have seen a silhouette of a humanoid figure pressed against the frosted glass of the interior window. Figure is described as being tall, with unnaturally elongated proportions. Deputies Harris, Wells and Tanaka report no matching figure present in station or outside on further investigation. Ice remains where a handprint had formed on the interior side of glass—unmelting despite heat.
0500 – Captain Holt issued an emergency directive for all available personnel to retrieve weapons and ammunition from the armory and regroup at the Dispatch Center. Anomalous entities have breached the station perimeter. Surveillance confirms hostile movement through the east corridor. Evidence hallway skylight has collapsed inward under the weight of snow and ice. Temperature remains at -33°F. Structural integrity of exterior walls now in question.
05:30 - Last entry before lockdown protocol. Physical deformation noted on metal fire door located by evidence lockup. Door convex, warped inward despite no heat signature behind it. Specific audible vibration from the floor appeared to be a deep resonance - almost like vocalization.
Agent note: //I am recommending an immediate re-classification of SCP__ from large-scale weather anomaly, to xeno-physical phenomena with possible sentience or intent. Event activity indicates multi-vector assault: environmental, psychological, and spatial. Unknown entities are potentially utilizing the storm for the purposes of both cover and conduit.//
Activating local site blackout failsafe. Preparing **[REDACTED]** containment measure if breach occurs.

Entry Time: 07:06 PST
Interior Conditions:
Generator is destroyed—melted components in metal casing emits no heat signature.
One survivor has been recovered, but there are no signs of Foundation agent Myers, other deputies or detainees.
All internal clocks stop at 05:30:19 PST, which were consistent with last known timestamp documented in Agent Myer’s report.
Audible static echoes through the hallway. Pitch adjusts fluctuates with proximity to evidence lockup.
Deputy Julian Chen's body cam footage is recovered on site, located on the floor inside the communications room corridor. Camera is still recording (runtime 04:33:12, battery level at 2%)
**Excerpt from Body Cam Footage (Deputy J. Chen):
[Timestamp 02:22:56]**
In the station corridor, overhead fluorescents are flickering erratically. Deputy Chen is running down the corridor with a tactical flashlight. (Camera is shaking haphazardly) Deputy's respiratory rate is elevated and breathing heavily A distant voice crackle over the radio [vocal analysis confirms its Agent Myers] “Containment protocol epsilon. Establish interior thermals. Lock entry.”
**[Timestamp 0:2:24]**
Deputy Chen’s flashlight sweeps briefly across the reinforced glass viewing panel into the holding cells.
▶ **Inmate Condition Log:**
Cell 1: Inmate ███████ is seen repeatedly striking his head against cinderblock wall. Audio is (filtered): Inmate is murmuring "Don't open your mouth. Don't breathe their names."
Cell 2:Empty Floor is covered in frost, steam appears to ride from mattress. Later review reveals finds human-shaped ice cast, but no body has been recovered.
Cell 3: Three detainees huddled into the far corner, their hands are covering ears and eyes. One begins to hum an unfamiliar lullaby in a minor key.
Cell 4: Subject ████ ████ (arrested for assault and battery) Suspects is standing rigid, facing security glass. He is whispering inaudibly. Audio filter captures only fragments upon playback reversal:
//"They came before the wind."
"The southern blood makes warmth. The southern blood lies."
"We were not meant to forget."//
Thermal overlay at this timestamp reveals no heat signatures from any detainees despite visible breath condensation and continued movement.
**[Timestamp 02:28:12]**
After Chen stops outside dispatch, video glitches — distortion effect resembling inverted thermal shimmer, local temperature drops by 9°C within 2 seconds.
Audio spike: Multiple layers of whispering of least seven distinct voices, each speaking over each other in a significantly degraded Old Norse and Anglo-Frisian. Transcribable words include:
"frostreifr… suðhlátr… sjóvakandi…"
(Literal: frost-ravaged, southern laughter, sea-wakened)
**[Timestamp 02:29:33]**
Camera turns abruptly. There is something audible crawling within ceiling tiles-more of a muffled scratching. It is followed by a deep, inhale directly beside the body cam mic. Thermal imaging overlay (retrospectively reconstructed) shows no corresponding life signs present.
**[Timestamp 02:30:44]**
Total power failure, total darkness.
Two full minutes of audio-only capture:
Repeating drip sound
Ceiling panels shifting overhead
Faint, wet footsteps, slowly pacing in circles around Chen
Indistinct child-like laughter — reversed playback confirms it repeats Deputy Chen’s last spoken phrase in tonal inversion.
**[Timestamp 02:31:44]** Camera sweeps over the central hallway. Icicles form along a discarded bulletin board — among the frost-covered papers is a hand-drawn child’s crayon sketch titled ‘My Daddy’s Police Station,’ partially obscured by ice. An unclaimed stuffed bear lies at the foot of the board.”
**[Timestamp 02:33:01]**
Flashlight reactivates. Rapid flickering. Lens crosses the hallway mirror.
Visual anomaly:
For 1.3 seconds, reflection displays a tall humanoid, standing motionless behind Chen’s image. No matching subject detected in the forward-facing view.
Subject characteristics:
Height: 2.5m
Limbs tapering into elongated, icicle-like fingers
No facial features visible — face obscured by frost suspended mid-air, hovering as if exhaled and frozen in place
Footage skips. Reflection’s head tilts sharply — mirror image moves independently of Chen.
**[Timestamp 02:35:19]**
Chen, over radio **(distorted, voice trembling):**
//“I can see them through the frost… they’re just standing there. They want us to look back.”//
**[Timestamp 02:36:40]**
Background audio captures low-frequency droning — analysis reveals it matches whale-song slowed by 2700%, layered over reversed chant **(origin unknown).**
[Timestamp 02:37:44]
Deputy Martinez (off-screen) begins sobbing. Repeats phrase:
“The cold has eyes. The cold has eyes. The cold—”
**[Timestamp 02:38:12]**
Captain Holt over radio:
**“Do not break line of sight— Fall back to comms room.”**
**Loud impact.** Roof structure breach. Ceiling collapses just off camera. Chen pivots.
Video becomes corrupted for 16.4 seconds.
During corruption: frame-by-frame analysis shows single, recurring silhouette — matching previous mirror entity — frozen mid-lunge in multiple frames across different positions, without showing movement between them.
**[Timestamp 02:42:01]**
**Location:** Carson Station – Communications Room
[Bodycam: Deputy Chen]
**[Timestamp 02:42:44]**
Camera shows Deputy Chen barricading the communications room door with assistance from civilian and deputies McNiel and Lewis. Emergency lighting is active—red pulses every 2.5 seconds.
Deputy Aranda is visible under the primary console, unresponsive to external stimuli, whispering continuously in an unidentified cadence.
Audible: Distorted screams echo from eastern corridor. Unidentified impacts strike the exterior hallway wall intermittently.
**[Timestamp 02:50:02]**
Static begins to bleed through every speaker in the room. Radios squelch with overlapping whispers—none in English. They’re out of sync, breathless, some speaking backward.
**[Timestamp 02:38:19]**
Shotgun fire erupts—three rapid blasts.
**[Timestamp02:50:10]**
The lights cut out. Night vision kicks in—green, flickering.
**Timestamp[02:51:12 – 02:51:20]**
Sporadic muzzle flashes reveal a massive frost-coated handprint across the north wall—measuring over 1.8 meters wide. The palm is deeply indented into concrete, with six elongated finger impressions. Frame-by-frame analysis shows the handprint visibly flexing—movement occurs without physical contact or vibration. Frost appears to grow in real time, branching in fractal patterns.
**[Timestamp 02:57:08]**
Deputy Aranda remains untouched. Subject continues whispering:
“It’s not cold if you don’t fight it.”
Phrase repeats every 6.5 seconds. Thermal imaging confirms Aranda’s body temperature remains stable despite ambient −33°C.
Chen backs toward the far wall, camera tilting, catching only brief flashes: Morales’ body slumped unnaturally, Haines’s shotgun discarded and bent. Arand [off camera] softly repeating, “It’s not cold if you don’t fight it. It’s not cold if you don’t fight it.”
**[Timestamp 02:39:28]**
Final frame: Chen’s breath crystallizes midair, hangs motionless, then reverses direction toward camera lens.
Footage ends.
**Addendum SCP XXXX-7** – Possible Theological Implications of "Southern Blood Lies"
**Recovered Phrase:** "**The southern blood lies."**
Following multiple instances of this phrase appearing during anomalous vocalizations from affected inmates in cell 4 ( recovered from deputy body camera), a multidisciplinary review was conducted by members of the Foundation’s Department of Memetics, Historical Theology Division, and the SCP-XXXX Research Team.
**Interpretive summary:**
The phrase appears to carry metaphysical and theological weight. Linguistic and symbolic analysis suggests it is not merely geographic in nature but ontological—referring to a rejection of dominant anthropocentric religions and their associated cosmologies.
Most modern theological systems (i.e., Abrahamic, Greco-Roman, Indo-Iranian) originated in temperate to arid southern regions. The expression //“southern blood lies”// is believed to represent a condemnation of these belief systems as deliberate or ignorant fabrications that supplanted a primordial northern truth: a forgotten pantheon or force associated with ice and the obliteration of warmth.
**Hypothesis:**
Affected individuals describe visions or memories of Indo-European religious rites, particularly those rooted in proto-Norse/Germanic traditions, but corrupted or intensified beyond historical precedent. It is posited that SCP-XXXX and related anomalies originate from a pre-civilization or pre-human intelligence—possibly a hostile metaphysical substrate embedded within glacial epochs of Earth’s history.
This intelligence may interpret modern civilization’s environmental warming, theological amnesia, and industrial arrogance as an act of desecration. As such, current manifestations (e.g., mass frost events, psychogenic contamination, linguistic breakdowns) may constitute a form of retaliatory reclamation—the reassertion of an ontological order humanity was never meant to survive.
**Excerpt – Dr. Ulrike Nørgaard, Historical Theology Division:**
//“We see it again and again—these entities don’t care about sin, salvation, or human souls. They don’t want worship. They want remembering. And what we forgot, they intend to carve back into the world. With ice.”//
**Containment Recommendations:**
All recovered vocal recordings of the phrase are to be tagged for memetic contamination and possible encoded linguistic patterns. Field Personnel are prohibited from engaging affected individuals in theological discussions during active episodes. Revisions to Foundation Anthropogenic Containment Protocols are currently under review in light of possible climate-linked ontological breaches.

**Dr. Hall:** Can you tell me your name?
**Subject:** (Voice is breathy, and patient is almost detached. She appears to be incoherent and cryptic) "They took it from me, now It's buried."
Dr. Hall: "Who are (they)?"
**Subject:** (Voice trembles) The old ones. The cold ones—-bound in the dark, beneath the bogs. They are already here.
**Dr. Hall:** "What do they want?"
**Subject:** (Eyes darting, voice is fractured) "To speak through the silence. To bend the few who remain. I’m their voice, their warning. Not the cold’s return… but its will and its judgment."
Dr. Hall: "What are they judging?"
**Subject:** "The flame that burns the earth. Man’s betrayal of balance. The frost answers, and I am the messenger. They whisper through the ice veins in my mind they whisper to me —old names-names too sacred to profane by words. They order me."
**Dr. Hall:** "What do they order you to do?"
**Subject:** **(Tears freeze on cheeks)** "To listen…to obey and to fear. I am bound to their will. I speak in their voice, to prepare the world for what must come."
**Dr. Hall:** "What did you see during your episode with the mirror at the Sheriff's station?"
**Subject:** (Shudders violently) "I was not me. I-I mean I was seeing through her eyes. My hands were tied behind my back, surrounded by those who wear frozen masks. I couldn't see their faces. They were chanting in broken runes but I can understand everything they said. I felt cold hands at my throat... then a blade... I felt their fury."
**Dr. Hall:** "Who was this person?"
**Subject:** **( Patient's eyes stare distantly trying to recollect. )** I almost caught it, before they held me, her down. They said her name once... Svanhild. I think that's her name-Svanhild. I think I was born too far down her line. But **It** remembered.”
**[End Transcript 00:07:03]**
**Clinical Note:**
Subject's statement that she was able to "see through the eyes" of a distant relative may denote possible ancestral connection which I believe may be caused by prolonged exposure to SCP-XXXX-ALEF or the broader cognitohazardous field associated with the anomaly.
I am recommending a genetic analysis and psychomemetic evaluation in order to confirm or eliminate the ancestral memory trace. If confirmed, subject may represent a genetic-based vector that SCP-XXXX-associated entities are using for ritual or communicative purposes.
**Observational Notes (Post-Evaluation):**
Subject refuses to eat, she is convinced that: “Warmth feeds it.” I have submitted a recommendation for involuntary enteral nutrition via nasogastric tube to mitigate risk of hypoglycemia, progressive malnourishment, and possible long-term anomalous psychological dependence on cold-state denial behaviors. Recommendation is pending review by Ethics Committee.
A microscopic examination of the subject's uniform revealed traces of peat, namely (**Sphagnum moss)** which is extensively found only in the bog regions of Denmark, Scotland and Northern Germany. These organic fibers were discovered in the deputy's sleeve cuffs, indicating partial desiccation consistent with submersion in oxygen-starved wetland environments.”
*
* During the subject's sleep cycle, audio recordings reveal voices from an unidentified nonhuman source that exhibit vocal patterns typically found in pre-Christian Norse funerary chants.
*
* EEG scans reveal increased activity in the temporal lobe, which is concurrent with electromagnetic disturbances within the range of VLF magnetic fields.
*
* The subject now describes to herself in the third person claiming: “She is still kneeling.”
**Request made for temporary SCP classification: Pending SCP Designation [SCP-XXXX-ARANDA]**
*
*
* Immediate containment at Site-88 under Class III Witness Protocol approved.
**Final Status:**
Subject 's psychiatric stability continues to deteriorate and remains under observation. Clearance for transfer to Site-88 anomalous witness containment is still pending.
**RECOMMENDATION:**
All survivors of direct contact with SCP-XXXX manifestations should be assessed as Class-II Cognitohazard Exposure Risks. Recommend continued isolation and mental pattern disruption protocol (Protocol Cold Lantern-9) for future contacts.

**FOREWORD**
The following review of body camera footage from Carson Sheriff’s Deputy Julian Chen [See Incident XXXX-7] two weeks before SCP XXXX event responding to a break-in and burglary call at the University’s Department of History archives located at a previously unknown subterranean level. (Velum parchment relic stolen from the university was later recovered by MTF Mu-13.)
Blueprints for the university contain no record of this sub-level. Internal temperature in the sealed reliquary chamber measured –9°C at breach, despite exterior ambient temperature being recorded at 28°C (anomaly pre-manifestation).

**Foundation Incident Designation: SCP-XXXX-DHU.1A
Date: December 12 -21 2039
Location: CSU Dominguez Hills, Carson, California
Summary:**
On December 21, 2039, at 22:19 PST, Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department responded to a reported Code 459 (burglary) at the History Department archives of California State University Dominguez Hills after a motion alarm was triggered in a temperature-controlled sublevel archive room, alerting on-site campus security. The archive room contained early North Sea trade documents, which were donated to the university by the Royal Danish State Archives in 1971.
According to video footage (later recovered by MTF Zeta 29 at the Carson station) Chen and Aranda completed a perimeter check before entering the northeast Humanities building where it appeared electrical systems and temperature controls were malfunctioning. Flickering emergency lights and the failing HVAC systems) were attributed to a faulty wiring system consistent with freezing subzero conditions within the archive room, according to the campus security officer.
Footage shows the two deputies entering the archive sublevel, where they find clear signs of forced entry: a shattered cryo-seal, frost-burned flooring, and crystaline frost formations on shelving and manuscript drawers. One item, a bone-bound parchment roll, is confirmed missing.( It was never officially cataloged in the university’s archives).
Security video from adjacent cameras reveals no visible intruder, but repeating timestamp de-syncs and a lens artifact resembling a branching, antler-like halo of frost appear during the time window corresponding to the breach.
**Addendum SCP-XXXX-8.1A – Subsequent Recovery of Parchment:**
On February 1, 2039, The Foundation detected anomalous temperature spikes in the San Gabriel Mountains northeast of Los Angeles, centered around an unauthorized encampment.
During a nighttime operation, MTF Mu-13 engaged a group of thirteen individuals performing a ritual at an ice-cored standing stone. All individuals were neutralized after attacking MTF team members and displaying frostbite-resistant physiology.
The missing Dominguez Hills artifact reported stolen from university archives**,[see SCP-XXXX-DHU.1A]** was preserved in a suspended column of supercooled air, and still emitting energy in ambient conditions. Analysis confirmed the text is inscribed in Elder Futhark, an early runic script used by the Germanic people during the Migration Period ca. 2nd–8th century CE.
Preliminary translations reveal phrases such as
“Return of the deep frost”
“Those who dream beneath the ice”
“The silence beneath all songs”
Cross-reference efforts with ceremonial ship burials along the North Sea Coast and early Germanic runestones are underway.

**Name:** Dr. Agnes Kolheim
**Clearance Level:** 4
**Assignment:** SCP-XXXX-ALEF Translation & Interpretation
**Status:** Pending Evaluation (Containment Review Committee, Case: ████-K)
**Addendum:** Classified—Thaumaturgic Cognitohazard Symptoms Emergent
**FIELD NOTES — EXCERPTED LOGS**
**Entry 1 — [02/10/2039]**
I’ve begun a full linguistic reconstruction of the manuscript. The dialect is bizarre—rooted in Old Norse, yes, but twisted, as if filtered through... silence? And written by someone who heard language secondhand: The phrase in elder Futhark reads as follows:
**“ᚦᛟᛊᛖ ᚹᚺᛟ ᛞᚱᛖᚨᛗ ᛒᛖᚾᛖᚨᛏᚺ ᛁᚲᛖ”** * *(Those who dream beneath ice)** appears five times, but it’s never quite the same. It’s like it shifts when I reread it.
The ink? It bleeds cold. I touched the edge of the page and my nail cracked from the chill.
**Entry 2 — [02/11/2039]**
I repeated the chant aloud in the cold room as part of phonetic mapping. Three repetitions. Then the power flickered. For seven seconds, I saw frost creeping from the air vent. It stopped just at my feet. Security thought it was a sensor glitch but the inscription in the manuscript reads:
**“ᛊᚲᚨᛚᛞᛁ ᚹᛁᚾᛞᚨ ᚲᛟᛗᛖᛊ”** * *(The wind comes again.)**
(This text appears near the closing of the scroll. Accompanied by a diagrammatic glyph resembling a crowned antler or branching frost halo.)
**Entry 3 — [02/12/2039]**
Site-72 heating units are fine everywhere—except my office. It's been 28°F in here for three days now. I’m not cold anymore. My breath doesn’t fog.
I started whispering in the voice from the manuscript. My voice, but... more emptied.
I think He/it is listening.
**Entry 4 — [02/13/2039] (Flagged by On-Site Psychiatric Review)**
The mirror in the restrooms doesn’t reflect me anymore. It reflects Him.
I stared for ten minutes and felt snow falling on my scalp.
My memories are fading. I can’t even recall my mother’s voice. Or the color of fire.
The antlers in the reflection are larger now.
**Entry 5—****[Unlogged – Paper fragment, recovered near Kolheim’s desk]**
Translation margin notes include new phrases:
**ᚺᛖ ᚹᚨᛋ ᚲᚨᛋᛏ ᛟᚢᛏ ᚹᚺᛖᚾ ᛏᚺᛖ ᛊᚢᚾ ᚹᚨᛋ ᛒᛟᚱᚾ.**
“He who was cast out when the sun was born.”
**ᛏᚺᛖ ᛚᚨᛊᛏ ᛒᚱᛖᚨᛏᚺ ᛟᚠ ᛏᚺᛖ ᚹᛟᚱᛚᛞ ᛒᛖᚠᛟᚱᛖ ᚹᚨᚱᛗᛏᚺ ᚲᚨᛗᛖ**
__“The last breath of the world before warmth came.”__
Kolheim underlined the latter. There is a thumbprint in frozen blood next to it.
**Entry 6 — [2039/01/25] (Last Logged Entry)**
We got it wrong. SCP-XXXX isn't a storm.
It's a memory of silence made into weather.
Its primordial entity with sentient intelligence older than humanity, its always been. Perhaps its the very consciousness of the earth itself.
The manuscript isn't a summoning—it's an apology to what we locked away in the heat of our world. The Rite doesn’t call Him. It reminds Him where we are.
I’ve begun the forgetting.
I can feel the cold in my bones now, not as pain—but as familiar. Like going home after a long exile.
He is almost here.
**FOUNDATION RESPONSE**
Following this final entry, Dr. Kolheim was found unconscious at her desk, surrounded by a radius of frost damage. Vitals are stable. Heart rate is present, but measured at 9 beats per minute, consistent with early-stage cryogenic stasis. Skin temperature: 41°F. Pupils fully dilated. She murmurs fragments of the chant in her sleep.
Containment status: Transferred to Site-13 Deep Isolation Cryo-Containment. Subject under memetic quarantine. No verbal contact permitted.

**CONCLUSION:**
POSTSCRIPT – CLIMATOLOGICAL NOTICE
Filed under: GLOBAL WEATHER ANOMALY LOG – REF [XXXX-FIMBRIA/REGION-6]
Two years after SCP event, the western continental United States—especially coastal California–has undergone a dramatic and unprecedented climate shift.
Winter temperatures regularly drop to arctic lows ranging between (-20°C to -30°C in some northern valleys), while summers rarely surpass 21°C. This climate shift extends to Baja Norte (from Tijuana to Ensenada) now following a pattern resembling North Atlantic maritime climates, with prolonged grey winters, near-constant overcast skies, and mean seasonal temperatures rarely exceeding 10°C.
Icebergs regularly form off the coast of Monterey on a seasonal basis and glacial formations are developing in the Sierra Nevada at a pace geologists are unable to explain.
All attempts to reverse or stabilize the seasonal pattern have failed.
No official conclusive cause has been identified.

**Author’s Note**:
Thank you for reading SCP-XXXX: The Cold That Thinks.
As a new member of the SCP community, this is my first attempt at a full-length SCP. It is longer than most because it presents to the reader a slow motion collapse of infrastructure told through logs, transcripts and recovered data. It unfolds as a failure on the part of multiple agencies trying to respond and make sense of a climate crisis that makes no sense from the official scientific standpoint. What I have done with this piece, or at least tried to do, is to blend climate dread and cosmic horror with ancient mythology. In doing so, I wanted this SCP to feel “lived-in.” This is every bit as much a climate apocalypse as it is a cold weather anomaly and it focuses on creeping dread, environmental collapse and the tragic human cost of an SCP event. I imagined a world in which the forgotten gods of winter awakened in response to modern climate disruption. This work explores the concept of what an ice-age as a conscious force would feel like, especially through the eyes of first responders such as police officers and firefighters, soldiers, foundation agents, linguists and psychiatrists each experiencing fragments of something altogether mysterious, dreadful and ultimately unknowable.
The length of this SCP reflects the Foundation’s attempt to document something that doesn’t just break containment — but something that also breaks memory, language, and climate.
If you hadn’t already been discouraged by the length and read all the way through — thank you!
I’d much appreciate any feedback on:
The pacing and structure (especially the field logs + collapse of normalcy)
Whether the mythos felt coherent and haunting
Any formatting issues or collapsible errors you notice
Cold critiques and warm feedback both welcome!

Excerpts of note:
Special Containment Procedures: There are perhaps few places in the world where you can surf, hike and ski all in one day than in Southern California, and as the winter of 2039 approached there was nothing to indicate any deviation from the state's near perfect climate that would forever alter this California "trifecta." Originating in Southern California, SCP-XXXX is identified as an anomalous meteorological event that caused the normally temperate region of the state to plunge into abnormally prolonged subfreezing temperatures.
Addendum XXXX-1:
Anomalous Electromagnetic and Acoustic Phenomena.
During SCP-XXXX events, multiple electromagnetic disturbances have been recorded.
The interference occurs on every VHF and UHF emergency communications band - this always takes the form of bursts of static that each contain debris of irregular pulses that look like (but are not described as) a code.
SCP-XXXX should be considered a significant threat to civilian populations and critical infrastructure due to extreme weather and associated anomalous phenomena. Further observation and heightened readiness for rapid response are required Research into the mitigation or reversal of SCP-XXXX is still ongoing.
Final footage from Deputy Chen shows a translucent, frost-veiled entity. Its unnaturally tall with very disproportionately elongated limbs behind his reflection — one that vanishes when he turns around but manifests itself through the peripheral vision. His last words: “They want us to look back."
Of note, the 10842-word draft appears functionally all at once in Revision 0.
