+ **SCP-8586**
+++ Object Class: Euclid
+++ Risk Class: Warning
+++ Disruption Class: Vlam
------
**Special Containment Procedures**:
SCP-8586 is to be kept in a soundproof, electromagnetically shielded containment chamber at Site-65. Any cassette tapes to be used must be pre-approved, properly documented, fully rewound, and cleaned before playback. Unauthorized personnel are prohibited from interacting with SCP-8586.
All testing personnel are required to wear wired soundproof headphones before use. Speakers, wireless headphones, earphones, and related audio playback equipment are strictly prohibited.
Any individual exposed to SCP-8586 is to be monitored of its effects and transformative stability. If mutations persist, they are to be quarantined for further study. Tapes found to cause permanent, unpredictable, or irreversible effects are classified and restricted under Foundation security protocols.
Damaged, corrupted, or unwound tapes must be repaired or incinerated before accidental use occurs.
EPs and albums with more than 1 track shall not be used, as it results in abnormal physical mutations and transformations during music transitions.
**Description**:
SCP-8586, also known as the Bestial Cassette Player, is an anomalous, purple-lavender colored cassette player with green and white markings and no brand or serial numbers. The cassette player was found washed ashore on a beach near Site-65 and was found by Dr. Kirby. Despite evidence of extensive use, the player is in near-perfect condition.
From reverse engineering SCP-8586, it was discovered that a mysterious material that is both solid and liquid gives the cassette player its anomalous properties. This material is called Orichorhythm, and attempts to extract it have failed. Orichorhythm’s properties directly affect the cassette tape inserted into the player, which is hypothesized to give SCP-8586 users the ability to shapeshift.
When a cassette tape—whether musical, lyrical, or literal—is inserted into SCP-8586 and played, the user will physically transform. The transformation is influenced by the song’s genre, tempo, and lyrical content, leading to monstrous transformations tailored to the nature of the track.
All transformations are reversible upon stopping the music. Extended exposure, repeated use, or using damaged or broken tapes might result in permanent mutations. Listeners who expose themselves to SCP-8586 excessively have shown difficulty reverting to their original form. Additionally, some tapes do not physically change the listener but emotionally. Some of these emotional changes are permanent, altering their perception, mood, and knowledge of abstract concepts.
Due to the rapid and continuous emergence of new tracks and compositions worldwide, SCP-8586’s full range of potential can never be fully documented. While the Foundation has attempted to understand the player’s transformation mechanics, new compositions and tracks make ongoing research necessary.
**Observed Transformation Mechanics**:
Short-term exposure to SCP-8586 results in minor and temporary mutations (e.g., change in eye color, mood changes, temporary enhanced abilities, and physiology). First-time use resulted in extreme emotional distress. Long-term usage resulted in permanent mutations (e.g., permanent sharp teeth, bestial form, elemental abilities). Using damaged and broken tapes resulted in permanent glitched form, erratic physiology, extreme pain, physical damage, or complete loss of cognitive function. While being transformed, any physical damage taken by the user also damages the tape inserted into the player. If the user is knocked out, faints, or becomes unconscious, the tape breaks, the user is transformed back into their original form, and might go into a non-lethal short-term coma after being knocked out. Death is impossible while transformed, but upon reversion, the user becomes vulnerable to all injuries. Despite SCP-8586 not being sentient, it can repair broken tapes and automatically rewind inserted tapes. It seems that the cassette player can grow attached to some people than others, making those subjects less vulnerable to the adverse effects caused by SCP-8586.

**Addendum 8586-O: Ongoing Testing and Observations**
Due to the wide variation in response based on cassette tape content, genre, and individual listener, SCP-8586 is considered an open research anomaly. Foundation personnel are encouraged to submit new test logs, transformation records, and field observations following the approved format.
All entries must be reviewed and cleared for informational hazards and memetic influence prior to inclusion in the official record.
Contributors may use the following format for submissions:
