Special Containment Procedures:
SCP-8179 is to be cordoned off under the guise of federal road closure due to geological instability. Entry roads are to be barricaded and patrolled. Satellite surveillance is to monitor for unauthorized entry. Any civilians attempting to access SCP-8179 are to be intercepted, detained, and administered Class-B amnestics.
Personnel assigned to SCP-8179 are to be fully briefed on the nature of the anomaly. No individuals unaware of SCP-8179’s effects are permitted to approach or traverse the designated road.
Description:
SCP-8179 refers to an anomalous phenomenon occurring along an approximately ██ km stretch of rural road in central Wyoming. When a vehicle is driven on this road by an individual **unaware** of SCP-8179's properties, a standard U.S. Department of Transportation stop sign (designated SCP-8179-1) will spontaneously manifest somewhere ahead of the vehicle.
SCP-8179-1 is only visible to those who are unaware of the anomaly. Individuals who have been briefed or otherwise informed of SCP-8179 will not perceive SCP-8179-1, nor will it manifest for them under any circumstances.
If a subject passes SCP-8179-1 at a speed exceeding 10 mph (16 km/h), one of two outcomes occurs:
- **Outcome A (Approx. 75%):** The subject immediately experiences total neurological and cardiac shutdown. Over the next five hours, the subject's body will undergo a full transformation into a physical stop sign identical in appearance and composition to SCP-8179-1. The transformation affects all biological material and appears to be permanent.
- **Outcome B (Approx. 25%):** The subject remains physically unaffected but will develop escalating psychological symptoms within 24 hours, beginning with generalized vehicular anxiety. This condition progresses into a phobia of all forms of travel, often culminating in suicide within 1 to 3 months. Class-C amnestics have been partially effective in delaying symptom progression, but not in full reversal.
The precise mechanism behind SCP-8179's selective visibility is unknown. Attempts to capture SCP-8179-1 on camera or other recording devices have consistently failed unless the operator is unaware of the anomaly, in which case the footage is corrupted or lost shortly after capture.
The transformation process begins within 10–15 minutes post-mortem, with initial rigidity in limbs and a graying of the skin. Over the following hours, tissue appears to calcify, then convert into metallic compounds structurally similar to aluminum alloys used in standard street signage. Hair and eyes are among the first tissues to dissolve, replaced by layers of reflective coating identical to that found on Department of Transportation-approved signage.
By Hour 3, the subject's arms and legs elongate and flatten, merging into a disc-shaped sheet that curves into the octagonal form of a stop sign. Internal organs liquefy and are replaced by solid-state reflective plastic. The process concludes by Hour 5, with the subject's neck and head stretching vertically into a cylindrical pole composed of fused vertebrae and metallic sinew. Final height and signage orientation are consistent with road signage regulations.
Subjects remain completely inert throughout the process. No neural or cardiac activity resumes at any stage.
Addendum 8179.3 – Test Log 02: Dashcam Experiment
Date: ██/██/20██
Subject: D-97321
Procedure: D-97321, unaware of SCP-8179’s specific effects, was instructed to drive a standard Foundation-issued sedan along the affected stretch of road. A high-definition dashcam was mounted to the windshield and remotely monitored by researchers in real-time. D-97321 was told only that he was testing new "automated signage recognition software."
Result: At 1.2 km into the drive, D-97321 verbally acknowledged seeing a stop sign "in the middle of the damn road." At this point, vehicle telemetry indicated a speed of 32 mph. Eight seconds later, all biometric readings ceased abruptly.
Dashcam footage froze exactly 0.4 seconds after SCP-8179-1 came into frame. Data loss was immediate—camera memory and backup drive contained only static and corrupted fragments. Local wireless transmission was also irretrievable.
Before the 0.4 second delay of Data Loss, 3 Frames were transmitted to Researchers and is Displayed Below:

Recovery teams located the vehicle idling in the middle of the road, driver's door open. In the passenger seat, a partially-formed stop sign composed of calcifying human remains was found fused into the seat and center console. One hand—still flesh—gripped the steering wheel. Transformation concluded approximately 3 hours later.
Notes:
Dr. ██████: "We now know visibility isn't dependent on mechanical or digital sensors—it's cognitive. The sign appears in the mind and is **erased** as soon as the subject becomes aware of its anomalous nature. We also now know the body doesn't just **become** a sign. It **is** the sign. Sentient or not, that’s horrifying."
Addendum 8179.4 – Interview Log 05
Subject: D-83455 (Survivor Case)
Interviewer: Dr. Langford
Date: ██/██/20██
Notes: Subject was exposed to SCP-8179 during Test 04. Despite exceeding the 10 mph threshold, subject did not undergo transformation. They were brought into containment for psychological observation.
[BEGIN LOG]
Dr. Langford: Morning. How are you feeling today?
D-83455: *[Long pause.]* I didn’t sleep again. Every time I close my eyes I hear it. That… *pop.* Like a balloon, but wet. I didn’t even see the sign, y'know? Just—next thing I know I feel cold and my heart's pounding like it wants to leave me behind.
Dr. Langford: You mentioned "the pop" yesterday. Can you describe that more?
D-83455: It's like... the air gets thick and then something *snaps.* Not loud. Just final. I swear I see something in the rearview mirror every time I drive in my dreams. Just a red octagon. Watching.
Dr. Langford: Have you had any thoughts of hurting yourself since our last session?
D-83455: *[Nods slowly.]* But not because I **want** to die. It’s because I don’t want to go anywhere anymore. It’s not just cars now. I can’t even step outside without looking over my shoulder. Like it’s gonna be there. I **know** it can’t be, you told me that, but it feels like it’s just waiting for me to forget.
Dr. Langford: You're safe here. You haven't left the facility since the event.
D-83455: *[Looking down.]* That’s what worries me.
[END LOG]
Post-Interview Note: Subject was moved to high-security psychological care following the session. Approximately 72 hours later, D-83455 was found unresponsive in their cell after apparently rupturing a femoral artery with a piece of sharpened plastic from a food tray. No sign of forced entry or anomalous activity detected. The phrase **"I stopped"** was written in blood on the wall behind the bed.

**Special Containment Procedures:**
SCP-8164 is a memetically-triggered phenomenon that cannot be contained through conventional physical means. Containment efforts are currently focused on suppressing online dissemination of the activation string and administering Class-C amnestics to any individuals exposed to its effects. Automated Foundation web crawlers monitor for instances of the numerical sequence associated with SCP-8164, with flagged cases reviewed and sanitized by Foundation Staff.
**Description:**
SCP-8164 is an anomalous phenomenon triggered when a human writes the following sequence of Eastern Arabic numerals on a sheet of physical paper: **"919739204850242"**. Exactly 15 seconds after the final digit is written, the sheet, along with any directly connected paper; vanishes from observable reality. The mechanism behind this disappearance is unknown, and no physical or energetic residue remains at the site of disappearance.
The anomaly does not activate if the string is printed digitally, typed, or written on non-paper surfaces. The effect appears to propagate through material contact, but only under specific conditions (see Addendum 8164.2: Testing).
--
**Addendum 8164.1 – Discovery**
SCP-8164 was discovered on ██/██/20██ following a report from ███████ High School regarding the sudden disappearance of 394 copies of the student newspaper. The incident followed the inclusion of a math puzzle promising extra credit upon correct solution. Although the intended answer was omitted due to a printing error, one student solved the puzzle independently and began writing the numerical solution manually onto the printed copies.
Following the disappearance of the newspapers, school officials contacted local law enforcement. Review of security footage showed the student manually transcribing the number onto each paper before they vanished. A Foundation asset embedded within the police department flagged the incident, prompting intervention. Amnestics were administered to all involved parties, and the school was issued a replacement print run under Foundation cover.

**Addendum 8164.3 – Incident: Disappearance of Dr. H. Samir**
On ██/██/20██, during an unscheduled solo test, Dr. H. Samir manually transcribed the activation string onto a test sheet while maintaining physical contact with the pen. At the 15-second mark, Dr. Samir vanished alongside the sheet and the pen used.
Security footage shows no abnormal behavior or signs of distress. His disappearance occurred with the same visual effect observed during SCP-8164 activations. Dr. Samir is presumed deceased.
Further attempts to recreate this incident with D-Class were Successful.
--
**Addendum 8164.4 – Pen Maintaining Contact Test**
A controlled test was conducted in a standard small containment chamber equipped with a single sheet of paper and an instructional note outlining the procedure. Subject D-58022 was escorted into the chamber, which was monitored via standard surveillance systems.
D-58022 proceeded to transcribe the assigned string of numerals. Upon completion, the subject maintained contact between the pen and the bottom-right corner of the final digit (**"2"**).
Exactly 15 seconds later, as hypothesized, D-58022, the paper, and the pen simultaneously dematerialized from the chamber.
This test confirms that the anomalous effect is not limited solely to the primary sheet or any physically connected documents. If the writing instrument used in transcription remains in contact with the paper, it too is subject to the effect. Furthermore, any individual maintaining physical contact with the writing instrument at the time of activation will be included in the resultant disappearance event.
Further testing is recommended to determine the precise parameters of object inclusion during activation.
--
**Addendum 8164.5 – Pen Contact Without Subject Test**
A subsequent test was designed to determine whether the presence of the subject is required during the post-writing contact period.
D-93477 was instructed to enter the chamber and transcribe the designated string of numerals onto the provided sheet of paper. Above the writing station, a mechanical armature was mounted to the ceiling, designed to lower and grip the pen once writing was completed.
Upon finishing the final digit (**"2"**), D-93477 was instructed to release the pen. The ceiling-mounted device was immediately activated, lowering a mechanical clamp to hold the pen tip in place, maintaining contact with the paper. D-93477 was then instructed to step away from the table.
Exactly 15 seconds after the pen was secured in place by the device, both the pen and the paper disappeared. D-93477 remained unaffected.
This test confirms that human contact is not necessary during the activation phase. The only known required condition is that the pen used to write the sequence must remain in continuous physical contact with the paper at the moment of activation. The subject does not need to be holding or present near the instrument.
Pending further approval, future tests will explore whether different writing tools or materials affect the outcome.

**Special Containment Procedures:**
SCP-8168 is to be contained within a standard anomaly containment chamber, enclosed inside a smaller transparent glass unit. This secondary chamber is equipped with high-pressure air ducts located on both the ceiling and floor. When activated at calibrated speeds and intensities—regulated via an automated control program—these ducts maintain SCP-8168 in a continuous state of suspension, preventing it from making contact with any surfaces.
**Description:**
SCP-8168 is a small insect superficially resembling a specimen of Amara aulica, displaying a slight yellow discoloration not present in typical members of the species. The anomaly’s effects manifest when SCP-8168 bites a living organism.

Upon biting any living creature, SCP-8168 triggers an immediate and total erasure of the subject from reality. This effect includes the removal of all physical, digital, and mnemonic traces of the individual. Photographs, documents, video recordings, and all associated memories are instantaneously and irreversibly expunged. Individuals affected by this process appear to have never existed; only data preserved in this file (the origin of which remains unverified) acknowledges otherwise.

**Researcher Marlin:**
I—uh, I don’t even know why I’m recording this. No one else remembers her. I’ve checked the logs, the databases, personnel files... it’s like she was *never here*. But I remember. Her desk is still empty. Her coat’s still on the hook in Lab B. I asked Taylor if he saw her yesterday and he looked at me like I was drunk.
**[Sound of paper rustling]**
I found this sketch in my notebook. It's hers, I watched her draw it during our lunch break. It's a little beetle, same weird yellow tint. She said she found it crawling on the edge of her clipboard during a field expedition. Jokingly called it her "little apocalypse bug." I laughed. She didn’t.
**[Pause – 6 seconds**]
There’s this thought I can’t shake. What if she didn’t just *disappear*? What if she was erased? Like... completely unmade. I don’t even know how I remember her. Hell, maybe by tomorrow, I won’t.
**[Chair creaks. Voice lowers.]**
I’m going to the chamber tonight. I know it’s in there. I saw the logs. The air ducts, the suspension system—they’re real. I don’t know how, or why, but they’re there. If I'm not here tomorrow, please... someone listen to this.

**Researcher Note — XX/21/20XX**
**Author:** Researcher D. Jones, Head of SCP-8168 Research
Upon initial review of the files left behind by Dr. Elsner and the remaining fragments of Project: ████, I am forced to conclude that our understanding of SCP-8168 is fundamentally flawed. What was once assumed to be a dormant or low-risk anomaly exhibits signs of **active interference with Foundation systems**, including the **intentional corruption or erasure of personnel files**.
I attempted to restore Dr. Elsner’s documentation. Instead, I encountered layers of nested data loops, some of which appear to have been written by **something pretending to be him**. Log entries were overwritten milliseconds after their creation. System timestamps contradict real-world chronology. There are references to **individuals who have never been assigned to Site-94**, yet their biometric IDs pass authentication protocols.
From this point forward, **access to SCP-8168 documentation is to be restricted to Level 3 personnel or higher**. Any attempts to interact directly with its core files must be logged manually, off-network.

Addendum to prior note: After extended review of physical backups stored in Site-94's black archive, I have recovered mention of an individual referred to as "Researcher Marvin." No digital trace of Marvin exists in the Site-94 personnel database. However, his name appears handwritten in marginalia on several printed reports associated with SCP-8168 dating back to 20XX. His signature also matches clearance-level requisitions for anomalous containment adjustments—some of which are still in effect.
What's disturbing is that I **do not remember ever reading about Marvin before today**, despite these documents being in my possession since my assignment began. More troubling: I revisited my previous note dated XX/21/20XX, and found multiple phrases and assertions I **do not recall writing**—including the sentence referring to individuals "pred[[DATA EXPUNGED]]
I have now begun documenting all personal experiences in **analog format only**. SCP-8168 may not only be capable of erasing entities from existence, but is potentially **modifying the cognition** of those studying it, rewriting memory, altering perception, and editing information retroactively. I don't know if these notes will survive.

**[Static. Heavy breathing. Papers rustling. The voice of Researcher D. Jones is heard, hurried and anxious.]**
JONES: Okay. If you’re hearing this, something got past the firewall. It’s not just the systems. It’s not just the files. I believe no, I *know* now that the subject is actively changing what it is in reality. It’s not just removing people, it’s rewriting how it’s *remembered*.
Do **NOT** trust any documentation on SCP-8168. It can change it at will. It’s not consistent. The version you’re reading now? Might not be the one I wrote. Might not be the *first* one. Might not even be *mine*.

JONES: Marvin was real. I found his badge embedded in the wall behind a sealed panel in the server room. Burnt. Melted. But it was *his*. Why the hell would—

**Note from Archival Technician ████:**
Audio anomalies present in the final segment were analyzed—no trace of Jones' voice was found past the 1:13 mark. Spectral analysis reveals a faint waveform consistent with *ultrasonic modulation patterns*, possibly matching other known cognitohazards. No one currently working in Site-94 recalls seeing or meeting a "Researcher D. Jones."
Excerpts of note:
Special Containment Procedures:
SCP-8168 is to be contained within a standard anomaly containment chamber, enclosed inside a smaller transparent glass unit. This secondary chamber is equipped with high-pressure air ducts located on both the ceiling and floor. When activated at calibrated speeds and intensities—regulated via an automated control program—these ducts maintain SCP-8168 in a continuous state of suspension, preventing it from making contact with any surfaces.

I did not, was mainly trying out a New writing style for this.
Of note, the user has multiple sandboxes, all of which have indicators of AI-generation:
- 14 Apr 2025 - 16:54:48 https://scp-sandbox-3.wikidot.com/stop-sign-thingy fully formed draft in page creation. Compare above excerpts with user-added text in Revision 3, "Before the 0.4 second delay of Data Loss, 3 Frames were transmitted to Researchers and is Displayed Below:

Revision 59 is the AI edit, changing to "SCP-XXXX is a memetically-triggered phenomenon that cannot be contained through conventional physical means. Containment efforts are currently focused on suppressing online dissemination of the activation string and administering Class-C amnestics to any individuals exposed to its effects. […]"
- 20 Apr 2025 - 22:12:08 https://scp-sandbox-3.wikidot.com/airduster revision 3, "D-91055 & D-85914 were Placed into a Chamber where was brought into, D-91055 was Instructed to Pick up the Subject" edited to "D-91055 and D-85914 were placed in a standard testing chamber, into which SCP-XXXX was subsequently introduced. D-91055 was instructed to pick up SCP-XXXX and aim its nozzle at D-85914. Upon receiving the command, D-91055 activated SCP-XXXX for approximately 0.5 seconds." remainder of the material looks to be AI-generated from the start.
