**Item #:** SCP-8135
**Object Class:** Euclid
**Special Containment Procedures:** SCP-8135 is to be contained in a standard anomalous document containment locker within a Class-3 climate-controlled archival vault at Site-04. The containment locker must be equipped with redundant dehumidification systems to prevent degradation of the artifact. Access to SCP-8135 requires Level 3 clearance and approval from at least one (1) Level 4 researcher from the Department of Religious Anomalies.
Personnel with documented religious backgrounds in Abrahamic traditions must undergo psychological screening before and after exposure to SCP-8135. No individual is permitted to study SCP-8135 for more than 18 minutes per session, with a mandatory 72-hour cooldown period between exposures. All personnel working with SCP-8135 must submit to bi-weekly cognitive evaluations to monitor for signs of Belief Reorientation Drift (BRD), defined as progressive detachment from previously held religious frameworks accompanied by spontaneous recontextualization of religious narratives within secular power dynamics.
All digital transcriptions of SCP-8135 must implement standard memetic countermeasures, including strategic redactions of all proper nouns associated with divine or messianic entities. Physical copies of transcriptions must be numbered, tracked, and incinerated following approved research protocols.
**Description:** SCP-8135 is a partially preserved papyrus scroll measuring 43cm in length and 12cm in width. The document contains text written in Koine Greek with several Aramaic phrases interspersed throughout. Radiocarbon dating and linguistic analysis place its origin between 5 BCE and 30 CE in the historical region of Judea.
The content of SCP-8135 appears to be an alternative account of the conception and early life of ██████, a central religious figure in several major world religions. Unlike canonical religious texts, SCP-8135 employs plain and direct phrasing, absent of symbolic or spiritual framing. While the language is consistent with early documentary records from the period, modern analysis suggests its tone may be perceived as clinical or emotionally detached.
The primary narrative centers on an adolescent female, referred to only as "The Vessel," approximately 12-14 years of age, who experiences a visitation from an entity identified as "The Messenger." The document describes this encounter in stark terms that suggest a non-consensual interaction framed within religious obligation and authority.
Notable excerpts include:
> "The Vessel was alone when The Messenger arrived. No witnesses were present. No celestial manifestations accompanied the visitation."
> "The Messenger declared: 'You have been chosen. Compliance is expected. What occurs here is sacred.'"
> "The Vessel inquired about permission from her father and mother. The Messenger stated, 'Authority has been transferred. Questions demonstrate inadequate faith.'"
The latter portions of SCP-8135 detail the social management of the subsequent pregnancy, including arranged marriage to an older male community member who is instructed to remain silent about the circumstances. Community elders are described implementing various narrative strategies to contextualize the situation within acceptable religious frameworks.
The final section of SCP-8135 contains fragmentary text due to fire damage, with surviving portions referencing "the crown fashioned from garden thorns," "silence when faced with authority," and "the fire that cleanses doubt."

**Test Protocol**
The Belief Reorientation Drift Susceptibility Index has been established across multiple subject categories, with distinct patterns emerging based on Foundation personnel clearance levels and religious background. Level 3 Personnel with religious backgrounds in Abrahamic traditions (n=12) demonstrated 91-97% susceptibility. Level 2 Personnel with similar backgrounds (n=24) showed 82-88% susceptibility. Level 1-2 Personnel with former religious affiliations (n=15) exhibited a moderate 65-72% susceptibility rate. Level 3 Personnel with no religious background (n=18) demonstrated reduced susceptibility at 43-49%. Level 1 Personnel with no religious background (n=20) showed minimal susceptibility at 12-18%. D-Class personnel with varied backgrounds (n=30) presented inconsistent susceptibility patterns as documented in Report 8135-F.
**Exposure Protocol**:
Exposure to SCP-8135 follows strict procedural guidelines established by the Department of Anomalous Psychology. Subjects undergo pre-exposure psychological baseline evaluation through Standard Cognitive Matrix Assessment (SCMA-7) prior to controlled viewing. Exposure duration is set at precisely 18 minutes, established as optimal threshold for memetic absorption without triggering immediate psychotic break based on Test Series 8135-Preliminary. Following exposure, subjects are immediately transferred to Observation Chamber 4-B for initial reaction monitoring. Cognitive assessments proceed at standardized intervals of 1 hour, 24 hours, 72 hours, 1 week, and 1 month post-exposure. Class-C amnestics are administered following the final assessment, with quarterly monitoring through standard Foundation psychological evaluation protocols thereafter.

**Addendum 8135-3: Recovery Report**
SCP-8135 was recovered during Foundation excavation near Jerusalem, approximately 3.7 km from a major religious historical site. The scroll was contained within a small clay vessel sealed with beeswax and buried beneath the remains of a young female, approximate age 12-14 years, carbon-dated to 25-30 CE.
Analysis of the burial site revealed several anomalous characteristics. The grave was oriented west-to-east, contrary to regional burial customs of the period. The skeletal remains showed evidence of repeated childbirth despite the subject's young age. Small clay figurines depicting faceless female forms surrounded the primary vessel. An inscription on the vessel translates approximately to: "She who was filled with glory deserves to be heard."
Foundation archaeologists noted that the burial appeared to have been conducted in secrecy, with evidence of nocturnal excavation and hasty interment. Items of significant value were included in the burial (silver coins, semi-precious stones), suggesting reverence for the deceased despite the clandestine nature of the burial.
The site has been thoroughly documented, excavated, and subsequently contained through Standard Archaeological Site Remediation Protocol 12-B. Local authorities have been provided with appropriate Class-E cover story.
**Footnote 8135-3.1:** Historical Context Assessment by Dr. ██████, Archaeological Division
The dating of SCP-8135 and associated remains to 25-30 CE places this artifact within a historically significant period marked by heightened religious and political tension in the region. Standard Jewish burial practices of this era involved positioning the deceased facing Jerusalem (east-to-west), with male family members conducting burial rites. The west-to-east orientation observed with SCP-8135 suggests either deliberate rejection of traditional practices or possibly non-Jewish burial conducted by individuals unfamiliar with local customs. The presence of childbirth indicators in a subject of this age is consistent with historical marriage practices of the era, where girls as young as 12-13 were commonly betrothed and married. However, the combination of valuable burial items with secretive interment suggests this individual held significant yet controversial importance to those who buried her. The specific period (25-30 CE) coincides with documented religious activity that would later form the foundation of major Abrahamic faiths, suggesting potential connection to nascent religious movements of the time.

**Addendum 8135-4: Memetic Propagation Analysis**
Following Incident 8135-Δ, wherein a digital photograph of a portion of SCP-8135 was briefly accessible on a Foundation terminal connected to external networks, MTF Eta-10 ("See No Evil") has implemented enhanced countermeasures to prevent memetic contamination.
Memetic propagation risk assessment indicates SCP-8135's contents function as a self-replicating cognitive virus with several quantifiable characteristics. Ideological Penetration Rate measures at 73% among targets with religious backgrounds. Conceptual Resilience testing shows 94% retention of core concepts after 30 days, even following Class-B amnestic treatment. Transmission Vector Efficiency has been calculated at 87% when communicated verbally, rising to 92% when presented in text form.
Analysis by the Memetics Division has identified the specific mechanism through which SCP-8135 achieves its cognitive effect. The document employs a four-stage memetic disruption sequence. Stage 1 (Narrative Familiarity) begins with recognizable elements from widely known religious narratives, establishing cognitive resonance with existing belief structures. In Stage 2 (Contextual Reframing), the familiar narrative is systematically stripped of supernatural/divine elements and presented in clinical language focused on human power dynamics, creating initial cognitive dissonance. Stage 3 (Perspective Inversion) shifts focus from the traditionally venerated figures to the marginalized participants, particularly highlighting consent issues and age dynamics typically obscured in standard accounts. Stage 4 (Pattern Recognition Activation) represents the point at which subjects spontaneously begin identifying similar patterns in other religious narratives, leading to a cascading recontextualization effect.
The primary hazard lies in Stage 4, where the initial memetic exposure creates a self-sustaining "cognitive lens" that subjects cannot willfully remove. This lens continues to reprocess existing religious knowledge without requiring further exposure to SCP-8135. Brain imaging of affected subjects shows persistent activation in the anterior cingulate cortex associated with cognitive conflict resolution, even during sleep cycles.
Dr. ███████ from the Cognitive Hazards Division has developed specialized containment protocols involving strategic cognitive redirection and targeted counter-narrative implementation. These protocols have successfully limited second-degree exposure effects in 78% of test cases.

Regarding the trigger/content warning: That feedback is absolutely valid. While the content is implied rather than explicit, it still engages with themes that could be distressing to survivors of trauma or those deeply connected to religious narratives. A formal CW has now been added to the article. Thank you for holding me accountable to that standard.
However, the idea that we “shouldn’t use real-life religions” in SCPs isn’t Foundation canon. The SCP wiki has long engaged with myth, belief, and cultural systems, including Christianity, Judaism, Islam, and many others. From SCP-001 proposals to SCP-343, the Foundation has examined how belief becomes structure, and how those structures affect people. SCP-8135 continues that tradition, just through a lens that centers the marginalized rather than the divine.
To be clear:
SCP-8135 is not about disrespecting religion. It’s about questioning how some narratives, especially those surrounding youth, authority, and obedience, have been passed down through sacred framing that erases harm. The piece reframes a known myth not to mock it, but to hold space for what might have been silenced beneath centuries of reverence. If you disagree with the reinterpretation, that’s okay. That’s what good fiction does: it opens discussion. But don’t confuse discomfort with disrespect.

I get we do get a fair amount of religious centric articles because ye religion and the supernatural are closely in tangled. But there is an air of caution you must have when making articles that involve the central subject being a real life religion, and the closer it is the more delicate you must be.
Now the article censored the religion but the only religion it could be is any demonization of Christianity (and technically Islam as Jesus is a prophet but not the son of god). And correct me if I'm wrong but its saying the virgin mary was (R, ed) and there few things wrong with including this. 1: there is no warning, it came out nowhere, and if it include s3xual violence even if implied you NEED to add a WARNING. Because to some even a suggestion it happened can have people spiral and that's why we include warnings to keep them safe. And if you ask "oh why they here then" The scp foundation is a comfort interest / hobby for a lot of people and helps them through hard times! And i can confirm its great to escape the grim reality of well reality. So add a warning.
Next: as this is referencing Christianity (or mabey islam) This is extremely disrespectful and also unneeded! You could of instead had the story of the gossiple be something else like using Mandela catalogue maybe a demon was able to tempt Jesus. Now to some that still can be disrespectful (but that happens when you make Christianity or any religion a part the story some one is bound to find it offensive) but to a lot Christians they know it would never happen and its very much removed from reality as there Christians who don't believe in demons, but saying the virgin Mary was () by god or an angle is something that is just disrespectful! Also saying that "this is how gangs groom kids" is also just kind of messed up, you can not like religion but you cannot compare religion to gangs who … well do i need to explain?
-1 im not sorry about that.
https://scp-wiki.wikidot.com/forum/t-17089582/scp-8135#post-6912798
I second this
don't use real life religions
Add a warning
https://scp-wiki.wikidot.com/forum/t-17089582/scp-8135#post-6912800
First, regarding the absence of a content warning: You’re absolutely right. This oversight has been noted and i added a TW at the top of the page. SCP-8135 engages with themes of coercion and institutional power masked as divinity, and even if these are presented through implication and clinical tone, a trigger warning is necessary for the safety and comfort of all readers. That was my miss, and I take responsibility for it.
Now, to the larger concern, the interpretation of religious tradition:
SCP-8135 is not an attack on faith. It’s an interrogation of how narratives are constructed especially those built atop power imbalances, where obedience is framed as righteousness, and where consent is either absent or overwritten by authority. It’s about how institutions, religious or otherwise, sometimes retroactively justify trauma under the banner of divine purpose. And unfortunately, that’s not fiction. That’s history.
The story doesn’t slander Mary. It defends her. It asks: “What if this wasn’t divine? What if it was covered up like so many other real-world atrocities against the vulnerable?”
Yes, it’s uncomfortable. But art, especially within the SCP format, has always examined the disturbing implications of power, memory, belief, and truth. If SCP-8135 made you angry, then it did its job, it got beneath the surface and made you think.
Lastly, I respect that the SCP Foundation serves as a comfort hobby for many. But comfort and critical thought can coexist. Not every SCP is meant to soothe; some are designed to unsettle for a reason.
If you're looking for pure cosmic horror or analog liminal fear, there’s plenty of that here too. But this one? This one is for those who’ve read the “sacred” stories and whispered, “This doesn’t feel right.”
https://scp-wiki.wikidot.com/forum/t-17089582/scp-8135#post-6912813
I understand what your saying and yes people do use religion to assert power over people, and its great to point this out and critic it! But that is what scp- 231, scp-001 the scarlet king and scp-999 were trying to say (or one the things) And also the cult coalition. Also eldritch and cosmic horror was one the biggest critics of religion at the time it started and still today H.P Lovecraft was an atheist. But also considered religion dangerous! So you can make a critic without using real religion.
Also if you are going to use a real religion then you got to do way more then one small article, you need either a massive article or a story spanning multiple article's to do the subject not only grace but the fairness all sides deserve (as even the critics of religion in the scp foundation give consideration to all sides) But also the respect. And implying that the virgin Mary was rped is disrespectful to her, her son, the religion and rpe victims. Honestly u could of said that she was 20 years old when she had jesus and cheated and there dint have to include rpe ( but wouldn't recommend doing that without all the above)
Also ye art can make you angry, and sometimes can be the point, but there is a difference between being angry because someone makes a point, and being angry about how the artist fumbled the topic really badly and clearly dint put much research into it. And lets just say i dont think you put more then maybe a day or two of research into this subject.
https://scp-wiki.wikidot.com/forum/t-17089582/scp-8135#post-6912822
Thanks for taking the time to expand on your feedback,
I want to respond to a few of your points in good faith. First—yes, I’m well aware of SCPs like 231, 001-SK, 999, and the Coalition’s critiques of cult power structures. They’re some of my favorite entries. But those stories often operate through metaphor, allegory, or cosmic abstraction. SCP-8135 was written to take that same critique and remove the metaphor. To show how those dynamics exist in stories people still revere, unexamined.
The idea that “real religion” needs a whole series to be treated with fairness is subjective. I chose to tell a focused story about one moment, through one lens, in one document. Religious institutions are made of many stories. But so are people. And sometimes, it’s one moment, one line, one realization that shifts everything. SCP-8135 isn’t trying to summarize an entire faith, it’s holding a magnifying glass to a single fracture point in a story that many people never question.
As for research, this piece didn’t come from a casual Google search. It came from reading, from wrestling with history, from understanding how real power dynamics play out when sanctified by belief, i have personally wrestled with belief my entire teenage life, and due to that i had researched a lot in regards to religion and psychology.
And I disagree that re-centering Mary’s story through this lens disrespects her. If anything, it honors her, by giving her a voice in a narrative where she’s usually a silent submitting vessel. The story isn’t mocking, it’s mourning. And it’s asking: what if the most sacred narrative was built on silence?
https://scp-wiki.wikidot.com/forum/t-17089582/scp-8135#post-6912825
Ok ye you make some fair points here actually, i don't think using rpe is the best way to do it. But ye that is an interesting concept and i like it, that there is one thing that can change your perspective. But i just thought maybe do it a bit differently. Either way i hope you do more articles as you are a talented writer and tbh this hasn't been the worst article on new pages for the past few days, but it also wasn't the best. Even if we have differing opinions i hope you can understand why some people (especially religious people) ca be offended by this article. So if you have to do a remake i would recommend making a lot less obvious which religion its talking abt or make up one. But either way i still dint like the article for all the reasons i gave, but that doesn't mean your not good at writing.
https://scp-wiki.wikidot.com/forum/t-17089582/scp-8135#post-6912836
Hey, seriously, thank you for coming back and replying with such a balanced take. I fully get that this piece isn’t going to be for everyone, especially people who have personal or spiritual connections to the story it’s reframing.
I’ll be honest: I did want to challenge the way these narratives are often presented as untouchable. I wanted to hold a mirror up to something most people never question, and yeah, that was always going to hit some nerves. That said, I really respect that even if the article didn’t land for you, you still took the time to acknowledge the effort and craft. That means a lot.
Thanks again for being cool about it.

As a Christian I find this article very interesting, and of course provocative lol.
My only real question about the article is simply the nature of the manuscript described. Can it truly be classified as anomalous? It's written that it strongly affects people of a religious background, specifically those of an Abrahamic religious background, but I mean..
Say we did actually find this kind of document in reality, and it's dated to be older than any New Testament gospel texts we have. Wouldn't it basically have the same effect? I have the distinct feeling that such a scenario would likely entail a lot of the "anomalous" reactions and symptoms in those exposed, as well as the destabilizing effect described.
People exploring religion in horror is very fascinating to me, and I think this article goes in an interesting alternate-history direction, but I hesitate to call this an anomaly. In reality such a discovery would be incredibly significant in Christian textual studies, and be a point of a lot of anxiety and tension for the Christian world, but it still wouldn't be anomalous.
What doesn't help is that the article seems to want to imply that the reactions and symptoms induced in people are anomalous, while at the same time that the document has a wealth of evidence to show that it is an authentic pre-gospel text, and therefore that the events it transcribes reflect the reality of what occurred in the past. I think that to be a true anomaly, the text would have to be demonstrated by archaeological and textual evidence to be false in its account, yet still unconditionally cause these symptoms, at least in my opinion.
Also I do need to do a little apologia for my brothers and sisters, and note that in reality, the historical and textual evidence informs us that Mary was likely at least 16 when she was betrothed to Joseph, and ergo when Gabriel brought her the message, not a tween or child, which is not unusual in Jewish marriage tradition. If you're curious, these are Mary's words after receiving the message from Gabriel, as recorded in chapter 1 of Luke's gospel:
46 And Mary said:
“My soul exalts the Lord,
47
And my spirit has rejoiced in God my Savior.
48
For He has had regard for the humble state of His bond-servant;
For behold, from now on all generations will call me blessed.
49
For the Mighty One has done great things for me;
And holy is His name.
Luke 1:46-49 [NASB]
I'd also be curious as to how a text that is "clinical" in its approach to documenting events also uses geographically accurate idioms in its language.. Heck I'd be surprised to find any kind of ancient text that, by modern sensibilities, could be described as "clinical", but maybe that's more of a nitpick than anything.
It's a cool idea! I think it could have had a better execution!

You raise a really good point about the anomaly question. And you're absolutely right, if something like this were found in the real world, it could cause a massive psychological and ideological shock without ever technically violating physics or logic. That was a deliberate choice. I wanted the line between “this is anomalous” and “this is just what happens when you tell a buried truth” to feel unclear and uncomfortable. Because sometimes, the most terrifying thing in the world isn’t a monster or a ghost. It’s a version of history that makes too much sense.
As for Mary’s age, that’s a complex topic, and I agree there are interpretations that place her older. But historically, the prevailing cultural norms at the time support younger ages, especially in that region, and I leaned into that because of how it recontextualizes the power dynamic that’s usually ignored in theological retellings.
And in regards to "clinical sounding text" - It's not literally “clinical,” it’s stark for its time, as in not referencing any outside phenomena.
Anyway, thank you again for such a thoughtful take. These are the conversations I hoped would happen.

Additionally, I want to address the invocation of Luke's account. While referencing Mary's words as recorded in Luke can be valuable for understanding established doctrine, it’s exactly this mediation that I find deeply problematic. Luke, a male author, spoke for Mary, filtering her experience through his own perspective and the prevailing patriarchal lens of his time. This isn't simply a matter of quoting scripture, it's about recognizing that what we accept as Mary’s voice is, in fact, a reconstruction imposed by someone else. My work aims to reclaim that narrative by highlighting the inherent power imbalances, showing that the "sacred" story was crafted under conditions that silenced the very subject it ostensibly celebrated. In this light, the clinical tone of SCP-8135 forces us to confront not only the historical realities of the narrative but also the deliberate suppression of Mary's own, unmediated voice.
