Noting that
AiroX (account age 1134 days, site membership 1133 days) recently coldposted the following page, which has indicators of AI-generation:
**Item #:** SCP-8175
**Object Class:** Keter
**Special Containment Procedures:** Due to the nature of the anomaly, a procedure to fully contain the anomaly has not been devised. Instead, instances and outbreaks of SCP-8175 are to be mitigated through Protocol "Silent Sanctuary" which includes the following:
* Designated foundational web crawlers monitoring across academic and social communication platforms for key phrases such as but not limited to: "decision fatigue," "autopilot thinking," and "cognitive outsourcing."
* Confirmed instances of SCP-8175-2 to be contained in isolation in anti-memetic chambers at Site-77. No form of direct verbal communication is allowed, with all interactions to be conducted via text-based interfaces.
* Site personnel tasked with the handling of SCP-8175-2 instances being required to undergo weekly metacognitive evaluations, with only those scoring over 70% on the "Personnel Preservation Index" being reassigned.
* All research to be conducted exclusively on Class-D subjects with no pre-existing mental or cognitive disorders.
* Termination of all instances of SCP-8175-2 upon initiation of Phase 4 assimilation.
**Description:** SCP-8175 is a parasitic metastasising cognitive phenomenon observed across all self-aware individuals. In its dormant state, victims of SCP-8175 do not exhibit any noticeable symptoms, allowing the anomaly to remain a subtle, unnoticeable presence residing within the mind of its host. Its period of dormancy is theorised to be of indefinite length, only becoming active when certain triggers are activated through developments in the cognitive processes of its host individual, with known triggers including but not limited to:
* Spending an extended time(approximately more than 14 consecutive hours) pondering existential concepts such as consciousness, the nature of existence, and free will.
* Prolonged exposure to and dialogue with instances of SCP-8175-2, individuals affected by Phase 2 assimilation or higher.
When activated, the anomaly transitions into its active state, broken up into 4 phases:
* **Phase 1 Assimilation:** In the initial 72 hours post-activation, SCP-8175 initially manifests as a non-verbal urge in the host individual's mind, attempting to influence the host's decision-making processes through inexplicable urges when faced with basic decisions and problems. Hosts in this phase have been observed to quickly succumb to these urges, mistakenly attributing them to their "intuition" or "gut feeling," resulting in greatly increased productivity. They also commonly express a sense of great relief and contentment after these decisions, feeling as if "a heavy weight" were "lifted off" their shoulders. When repeated, this process and its resulting emotion of relief becomes highly addictive, rendering the host increasingly vulnerable to the growing influence of SCP-8175.
* **Phase 2 Assimilation:** 3 to 7 days after activation, SCP-8175 begins to transition into a more intrusive influence on the host's decision-making, subtly taking over higher executive functions and decisions such as planning and decision-making. As they advance into Phase 2, hosts become increasingly comfortable and content with the influence of SCP-8175, gradually voluntarily relinquishing a significant portion of their executive and cognitive function to the anomaly. It is at this phase that hosts also begin to display a sharp change in their speech patterns, increasingly referring to their decisions and thoughts in the passive voice(For instance, hosts at this stage are likely to say "The decision was made" in place of "I decided"). As this is the first phase where the external symptoms of the anomaly become apparent, once hosts have sufficiently advanced into this phase of assimilation, they are officially designated as instances of SCP-8175-2 and contained according to the special containment procedures listed above.
* **Phase 3 Assimilation:** 8 to 14 days after activation, SCP-8175 becomes responsible for most executive and cognitive functions, and hosts display modular, robotic speech and thought. Hosts are no longer able to conduct emotional or nuanced decision-making, instead displaying a focus on specific tasks and issues. For example, thoughts devolve into simple, modular phrases such as "Food required, proceed to eat." It is also at this phase that hosts become fully detached from emotional engagement, displaying abnormally indifferent responses to events that otherwise would induce a strong emotional reaction. In short, hosts become fully stripped of all emotion whatsoever.
* **Phase 4 Assimilation:** 14+ days after activation, SCP-8175 takes full control of the executive functions of its host, in the process dissolving the hosts' personal agency and sense of self. Hosts no longer experience or acknowledge their thoughts and decisions as their own, fully accepting SCP-8175 as their decision-making mechanism. When fully advanced, hosts display the following symptoms:
* Complete loss of self-agency and loss of self identity
* Use of passive voice, modular language, and third person language
* Repetitive, task-orientated behaviour
* Absence of critical thinking
* Incapability of self-reflection
* Apathy toward issues of complex or philosophical matters
* Absence of emotional responses
* Rigid yet efficient physical movements
* Loss of variance in facial expressions
* Decreased adaptability to novel stimuli
* Complete erasure of personal volition and relinquishment of all executive and cognitive function to SCP-8175
