SCP-8728: “The Transformation Tape”
Object Class: Keter
Special Containment Procedures:
SCP-8728 is currently uncontained. Efforts to locate and secure SCP-8728 are ongoing. Mobile Task Force Eta-77 (“Media Junkies”) has been assigned to investigate and recover SCP-8728. All reports of anomalous VHS tapes matching SCP-8728’s description are to be intercepted and analyzed. Civilians exposed to SCP-8728 are to be detained, evaluated, and, if necessary, administered Class-C amnestics.
Recovered instances of SCP-8728 must be stored in a high-security anomalous media locker at Site-[Redacted]. Playback of SCP-8728 is strictly prohibited without Level-4 authorization and must be conducted in an isolated testing chamber equipped with an emergency audiovisual disconnect system. Personnel exposed to SCP-8728 must undergo mandatory psychological evaluation.
Description:
SCP-8728 is an anomalous VHS tape titled “Total Body Transformation: 30 Minutes to a New You!” The cover depicts a neon-lit gym and two individuals, designated SCP-8728-1 “Chad”and SCP-8728-2 “Tina”, who act as the hosts of the exercise program contained within. The tape exhibits no external markings indicating its origin, and attempts to identify its manufacturer have proven unsuccessful.
When played on any functional VHS player, SCP-8728 initiates a 30-minute exercise routine led by SCP-8728-1 and SCP-8728-2. The routine initially appears mundane, consisting of standard aerobics and motivational commentary. However, upon repeated viewing, SCP-8728 demonstrates escalating anomalous properties.
Subjects exposed to SCP-8728 report:
• A compulsion to replay the tape daily, despite efforts to avoid it.
• Increasingly personalized and invasive commentary from SCP-8728-1 and SCP-8728-2, including specific references to the subject’s personal life, past traumas, and insecurities.
• Physical manifestations of fatigue, injury, or improvement disproportionate to the exercise performed.
• Emotional deterioration, culminating in severe psychological distress or suicidal ideation.
Upon completion of the routine to the satisfaction of SCP-8728-1 and SCP-8728-2, the tape ceases its anomalous activity and relocates itself to another individual. Attempts to destroy SCP-8728 have universally failed, as the tape consistently reappears in pristine condition.
Addendum 8728-01: Initial Recovery
SCP-8728 was first brought to the Foundation’s attention in 1992 after a string of unexplained deaths in [Redacted], New York. Each victim was found with signs of extreme physical exertion, and in several cases, a VHS player was still running SCP-8728 at the scene. The first recorded case investigated by authorities was the suicide of Emily [Redacted], a local woman found deceased in her living room, seated directly in front of her television, which was still playing SCP-8728 on a loop.
Officer Diego Ruiz of the [Redacted] Police Department was assigned to the case and recovered SCP-8728 as potential evidence. SCP-8728 was taken into police custody and stored in the department’s evidence room.
Addendum 8728-02: Incident Report—Ruiz Exposure
The following is an excerpt from Officer Ruiz’s testimony, recorded after his recovery by Foundation personnel.
[BEGIN TRANSCRIPT]
Ruiz sits at a table, visibly exhausted. He avoids eye contact with the interviewer, gripping his hands tightly.
Ruiz: I didn’t mean to… I didn’t know what it was. I didn’t know I would be… *begins to sob*
Interviewer: Take your time, Officer Ruiz. Start from the beginning.
Ruiz takes a deep breath.
Ruiz: We found the tape at a scene. Emily [Redacted]—suicide. She was sitting right in front of the TV, and the damn thing was still playing when we got there. Just a workout tape giving words of encouragement. I didn’t know what the tape had done. We tried to eject the tape to make it stop, but it just kept playing. We had to take the entire VCR to the station, just to get the tape out.
Ruiz rubs his temples.
Ruiz: We gathered everything we needed from the scene. Took it to the station, logged it as evidence. Nobody thought much of it. Just a weird little detail.
Interviewer: When did you first watch the tape?
Ruiz: That same night. I had some downtime, figured I’d take a look—see if it was connected to anything. So I played it in the evidence room.
Ruiz exhales sharply, shaking his head.
Ruiz: The first time was fine. Just an aerobics video. Nothing weird.
Interviewer: And then?
Ruiz: The next day, I felt like I was having déjà vu. Everything in my shift—the traffic in route to the station, the way the radio calls came in—it all happened exactly the same as the day before. And when I checked the evidence room, the tape was there. Waiting.
Interviewer: Did you play it again?
Ruiz: I tried to ignore it, but I felt… pulled to it. Like I had to. And when I did, they knew.
Interviewer: Who knew?
Ruiz: Chad and Tina. Those freaks. They started talking to me. Calling me by name. Telling me I was lazy, that I was out of shape, that I’d let people down. They knew about my cases—failures I never talked about. The people from those cases started… They started appearing with those two freaks. Doing the workouts. Every day someone from an old case would…
Ruiz swallows hard.
Ruiz: It kept happening. Every day was the same. Every shift started over, every call came in exactly the same. I’d check the evidence room, and the tape would be there. It was like I was trapped in that day—like it wouldn’t end unless I played it again.
Interviewer: And how did it end?
Ruiz: I don’t know. I just… gave in. I did the whole damn workout. Every rep, every set. I pushed through all of it, ignored everything they said. When it ended, they smiled at me. Really smiled.
Interviewer: And then?
Ruiz: I went home. When I came back to work the next morning, I didn’t have to go back to Emily’s crime scene. The loop was over.
Interviewer: And the tape?
Ruiz: Gone. I checked the evidence room myself. It wasn’t there anymore.

Addendum 8728-03: Subsequent Recovery
One month after Ruiz’s exposure, SCP-8728 was rediscovered at the residence of Alex [Redacted], Ruiz’s former best friend. SCP-8728 had remanifested at his doorstep without explanation.
MTF Eta-77 was dispatched to recover SCP-8728. Upon arrival, agents discovered Alex [Redacted] and his wife in a catatonic state, each positioned in front of separate TVs playing SCP-8128. Both individuals were repeating the workout motions in unison, despite visible signs of dehydration and muscular tears.
The team successfully retrieved SCP-8728 but noted the tape’s apparent duplication, as a second instance remained active in the VCR. Both Alex and his wife succumbed to organ failure during transport.
Experiment Log 8728-A
Subject: D-1284
Procedure: Subject instructed to complete SCP-8728’s routine.
Result: Upon completion, SCP-8728 relocated to another D-Class personnel. Subject displayed signs of severe emotional distress but reported no compulsion to continue interacting with the tape.
Researcher Notes:
SCP-8728’s true nature eludes us. Is it sentient? Malicious? Or simply a tool for some higher purpose?
All we know is this: The tape always finds its next victim. And appears to be someone close to or who knows the previous victim. We don’t know when and where exactly, but somewhere, the synth beat begins again.

Central Narrative: This tape prays on people that live with deep regrets, failures in life—amongst other things. The goal of the tape is to help you transform your mind, body & soul in 30 mins.
Additional Notes: This SCP is based off of a creepy pasta I’ve written by the same name.
