**SCP-8915** ("The Static Man")
**Public Nickname:** "The Man Behind the Noise"
**Special Containment Procedures:**
SCP-8915 is contained in a lightless, soundproofed chamber measuring 6m x 6m x 6m. The chamber must contain a functioning CRT television, continuously displaying white noise static. This television must remain operational at all times; failure to maintain a consistent static broadcast may result in a containment breach. Any electrical failures must be resolved immediately by an automated backup system.
**Entry Protocol:**
Personnel entering SCP-8915's chamber must be equipped with a brainwave-stabilizing headband, which generates an unchanging, constant EEG pattern to prevent SCP-8915 from sensing them as an "inconsistency."
Vocalizations are greatly limited to tone-vocoding, since vocal inconsistencies can cause a violent response.
SCP-8915's holding cell must have any alteration of light, sound, or electromagnetic fields corrected immediately.
Unauthorized personnel or electronic devices are prohibited. All devices that are not analog technology-based must be scanned before being introduced.
**Description:**
SCP-8915, or "The Static Man," exists as a human-sized clump of television static. It is always in a different shape, such as the distorted interference on an untuned analog television broadcast. It appears to be in an electromagnetic field, subtly interfering with nearby electrical devices and distorting digital signals. It is considered to possess some kind of limited sense of self and can only perceive objects that possess a stable, uniform frequency or waveform.
SCP-8915 can warp reality through conceptual manipulation, which distorts information so it appears to "corrupt signals" or "interfere with broadcasts." This includes:
**Memory Scrambling:**
Individuals watching SCP-8915 without protection will suffer from memory "erasure" or "overwriting," replacing personal memories with falsehoods or static-like thoughts.
**Footage & Audio Distortion:**
Security cameras and microphones in proximity to SCP-8915 experience severe corruption. Recorded video often contains nonexistent individuals or tampered timelines.
**Matter Modification:**
When upset, SCP-8915 warps physical matter, "editing" objects or individuals out of reality, replacing them with seemingly random but contextually appropriate stand-ins (e.g., replacing a sword with a crude spear, turning a key into a useless hunk of metal).
When angry or interrupted, SCP-8915 turns to drastic reality warping, potentially rewriting large sections of the facility into impossible geometry or producing anomalous objects seemingly out of thin air.
**Discovery:**
SCP-8915 was first found in a sealed television repair shop in ███████, ██. The entity was observed to be interacting with a malfunctioning CRT television, and its presence was first noted when security footage from the shop began displaying people who did not exist. The previous owner of the store was reported to have "vanished," with no previous records to attest that they ever lived in the area.
Locally, prior to containment, SCP-8915 was rumored among civilians as "The Man Behind the Noise," due to unexplained electromagnetic disturbances and auditory anomalies linked to its presence.
**Incident Log 8915-A:**
During a random power loss, SCP-8915's containment TV became inoperable for approximately 47 seconds. Throughout those seconds, Site ██ experienced a full communications blackout, and all security cameras were filled with unintelligible static and distorted silhouettes. Personnel within 200m of SCP-8915's chamber experienced severe memory fragmentation, with some believing they were individuals who never existed. After the power was restored, a strange individual appeared on internal documents for 3 hours before disappearing without leaving any biological evidence that they had ever been there.
**Research & Military Considerations:**
Since SCP-8915 can modify matter and produce objects that seemingly can be utilized for good, some research divisions have suggested harnessing its potential for military uses. Regulated testing on D-Class personnel implies that SCP-8915 might be manipulated through secondary means through certain stimuli, resulting in anomalous weapons under given circumstances. But its potential to cause randomness and hostility upon detection of erratic frequencies poses certain hazards.
SCP-8915 is presently rated Keter, with Thaumiel considerations under review due to further developments in control.
**Addendum 8915-██:** Experiment on D-Class personnel
**Date:** [DATA EXPUNGED]
**Subject:** D-Class personnel - ████ █████
**Summary:**
As an attempt to expand the boundaries of SCP-8915's reaction to stimuli, a new experiment was conducted using a D-Class personnel. The experiment was designed to incite SCP-8915 without bodily harm, by vocal and behavioral provocation.
**Experiment Log 8915**-██:
**Setup:**
**Subject:** D-Class personnel ████ █████.
was chosen for stress resistance and history of taunting others verbally.
subject was provided with a vocoder device to facilitate communication between the subject and SCP-8915. However, the subject was instructed to not use the vocoder and speak loudly and abrasively, in the hope of irritating SCP-8915.
**Phase One: Agitation Protocol:**
Personnel ██ █████ sat in a locked viewing room by the side of SCP-8915's containment. The vocoder was around his neck but not activated.
The first response of ████ █████ was an attempt to speak normally, explaining how he was bored, and attempting to get some reaction from SCP-8915. SCP-8915 did not respond.
The personnel, having been insulted, began to increase the level of his voice, yelling directly at SCP-8915. The personnel continued with this action for a few minutes and SCP-8915 did not have any initial responses to aggression.
**Phase Two: High Provocation:**
████ █████ was instructed by researchers to intentionally ignore the vocoder and keep speaking louder and in a more aggressive tone.
The subject started talking in an abnormally loud tone, nearly screaming into the containment chamber, saying things like, "You think you're frightening? Why don't you demonstrate something!" and "You're nothing but a thing to be contained; show me otherwise!"
SCP-8915's visual distortions started to increase. The typically fluctuating appearance of the SCP grew more unstable, with its shape quickly expanding and shrinking as the inmate screamed.
**Phase Three: Onset of Anomalous Reaction:**
Around 10 minutes into the experiment, SCP-8915's behavior shifted from passive to highly reactive. Its shape appeared to twist and contort in unnatural patterns, making a high-pitched screech that was barely audible from outside the containment fields.
As ████ █████ continued to scream, SCP-8915 manifested, accompanied by a low-frequency hum that gradually amplified its energy in harmony with the subject's rants.
SCP-8915 began to distort in shape, and strange, glowing tendrils began to form within its body. The tendrils appeared to extend outwards, reaching towards the source of irritation.
**Phase Four: Weapon Manifestation:**
After a further 5 minutes of verbal goading, the tendrils coalesced into weapon form—a large, jagged sword constructed from SCP-8915's unstable form.
**Notable Behavior:**
The weapon seemed to hum with energy, and its form only became clearly defined as the personnel's screaming reached its peak. The weapon crept closer to the glass confinement wall, seeming to concentrate its efforts on ████ █████, even despite the physical barrier.
SCP-8915's manifestation then seemed to grip as the weapon seemed to "lock" onto the personnel's refusal to comply with the vocoder.
**Phase Five: Immediate Termination:**
The weapon formed and rushed rapidly towards the restraint chamber in an otherworldly, autonomous fashion. When the weapon approached near proximity to the containment chamber, ████ █████ terminated his verbal barrage, knowing that the SCP had responded.
SCP-8915's weapon surged forward with erratic, violent momentum, tearing through the containment barrier with overwhelming force, shattering the containment barrier and impaling ████ █████ through the chest.
**Termination:**
████ █████ was eliminated, the weapon still frozen in its jagged form, now visible outside the containment chamber.
**Addendum 8915**-██ - Incident Report:
**Analysis:**
SCP-8915's response to prolonged verbal goading, specifically the refusal to use the vocoder and the abrasive, grating nature of the subject's speech, led to the production of a weapon which could escape containment.
Use of the vocoder may potentially be a stabilizing influence that prevents SCP-8915 from reacting violently. Failure to use it, however, appears to be a necessary part of triggering SCP-8915's anomalous abilities.
This test provided valuable insight into the emotional triggers of SCP-8915. The SCP reacts well to annoyance, particularly when it is dismissed by subjects from its communicative process. But the consequent manifestation of a weapon presents worrying implications for the hazards of triggering SCP-8915.
Further testing will be conducted to establish the vocoder's relationship to SCP-8915's physical form, though this occurrence has led to live human experimentation involving direct verbal provocation being suspended temporarily.
Note: All future testing with SCP-8915 will be conducted under tighter conditions, including that any human subjects must employ the vocoder.
