**Special Containment Procedures:**
SCP-8743 will be contained in a modified humanoid containment chamber at Site-██. The chamber surrounding SCP-8743 is to be equipped with a Faraday cage to prevent any sort of potential electronic interference caused by SCP-8743. The chamber is to be fitted with motion detectors and security cameras surrounding the containment chamber, to monitor any unauthorized use of SCP-8743. SCP-8743 must remain disconnected from any sort of power source outside of approved standard testing sessions. The room should be inspected weekly for any signs of tampering or spontaneous activation.
Access to the chamber containing SCP-8743 is to be restricted to personnel with Level-3 clearance or higher. On-site testing requires written approval from two Level 3 personnel, as well as all individuals involved in participating in SCP-8743 trials must undergo psychological screening before testing, along with a full medical examination afterward. A medical team is to remain on standby during the testing of SCP-8743 to provide immediate intervention if necessary. Personnel experiencing symptoms of bodily decay are to be quarantined in a biohazard containment unit until further evaluation. In cases of extreme bodily degradation, termination or incineration of the remains of subjects must be required.
Any sort of unauthorized activation or experimentation with SCP-8743 is strictly prohibited and will result in further disciplinary action. In the event of accidental activation of SCP-8743, personnel affected by it are to be quarantined and detained in biomedical containment and SCP-8743 is to be deactivated manually via a kill switch located on the containment chamber’s exterior. Subjects experiencing symptoms beyond stage 2 degradation should be transported to the medical wing immediately.
**Description:**
SCP-8743 is a Dance Dance Revolution machine retrieved from a decommissioned Japanese arcade on ██/██/20██ following an investigation by the foundation into a series of unexplained rises in levels of diseases and death in the area surrounding SCP-8743’s initial discovery. Japanese Public Health Department agents, who were sent by the Foundation, discovered an anomalous property that inhabited inside of SCP-8743 and was delivered to the foundation for further containment. The history surrounding the manufacturing of the arcade machine and its origin is currently unknown. The body of the machine is severely worn from decades of use and disuse, with faded colors and scratches visible on the machine. However, SCP-8743 functions with no issue during its tests and works as it is intended to be used. If activated, it plays like any standard DDR cabinet. Its anomalous properties begin to take effect once the user of said cabinet begins to miss notes on a song chosen on the cabinet. Material consequences are not visible until the results screen of the song is displayed.
Once displayed, depending on how many notes are missed throughout the song, the physical degradation of the user increases as more notes are missed. If a player misses one to three notes during their session, no impact is observed throughout the subject’s body. If a subject is to miss four to eight notes, minor manifestations of the flu begin to develop throughout the subject and can be easily treated. If a subject misses nine through fourteen notes, symptoms worsen, including moderate fever, weakness of muscles, and dizziness. However, treatment is still available.
If a subject misses between fifteen to twenty notes, the symptoms reach their peak, making the subject exhibit excessive tiredness, feverish heat, and blurring of vision. Treatment is still available at this stage. If a subject is to miss between twenty-one to twenty-five notes of a song, the effects are rapid and fatal, including rapid necrosis, visible disintegration of tissue, and disastrous fall in bodily functions. If the subject misses more than 25 notes, the breakdown becomes irreversible, and the subject's body decays within a seventy-two-hour period. No treatment has been successful at this stage and mortality is unavoidable.
On the other hand, if the subject happens to get an overall perfect score, SCP-8743 will reward the subject by biologically purifying all disease-causing microorganisms, viruses, and parasites and remove them from the body by unknown means. Symptoms are not reoccurring until six months following the purification.
Once the effects of SCP-8743 have been transferred to the subject, SCP-8743 will automatically shut down approximately 10 seconds after the results screen or when the subjects click the “Song Selection” button. Forceful attempts to turn SCP-8743 off while it is in use will trigger the machine into a “lockdown” state. In this state, the machine will be unable to operate for precisely 24 hours. After the time has passed, SCP 8743 will automatically repair itself and function normally.
**Test 1:**
**Subject**: D-8432
**Background**: D-8432, a 28-year-old male subject with no prior experience with rhythm games such as Dance Dance Revolution, was selected to be tested first. The subject was perplexed about the game mechanism but complied with instructions.
**Procedure**: D-8432 was requested to select a beginner's song. During the test, the subject was poorly coordinated and could not keep pace with the timing of the arrows.
**Results**: D-8432 made 17 misses playing. When they came into contact with the page of results, the subject became overwhelmed with incredible and uncontrollable physical exhaustion and fell to the floor. Medical personnel were by his side minutes later with such symptoms as incredulous sweating, 40°C (104°F) body temperature, and delirium. In the 24 hours to follow, the health of D-8432 had deteriorated to complete muscular weakness, uncontrollable shaking, and loss of motor function. 72 hours to get over but the subject experienced permanent muscular atrophy and tissue necrosis, particularly of limbs. Psychological manifestations were paranoia and fear of electronic equipment for weeks following the test.
**Test 2:**
Subject: D-6721
**Background**: Competitive Dance Dance Revolution player D-6721, age 34, was chosen to expose SCP-8743 to a more experienced test subject. The subject began testing with apparent zeal and confidence and reported that the subject was an advanced DDR machine user.
**Procedure**: D-6721 was instructed to play with a difficult mode. During gameplay, the subject exhibited competence-level footwork maneuvers, moving seamlessly to the input demands of SCP-8743.
**Results**: D-6721 only missed 2 notes for the session, with no overt or immediate physical response. The subject reported feeling "completely normal" after testing and was disappointed that they hadn't gotten a perfect score. Medical monitoring for the next 48 hours yielded no abnormal physiological responses, and follow-up medical checkups yielded no deterioration or sickness from SCP-8743's influence. D-6721 then asked to be permitted to retake the test, which was refused.
**Test 3:**
**Subject**: D-9105
**Background:** D-9105, a female with a near-zero history of playing video games, age 19, was chosen to test SCP-8743's reaction to an uncoordinated subject. The subject was not eager to participate and complained about rhythm games in general.
**Procedure:** D-9105 was requested to play a simple-level tune, but she had no idea what to play and could not keep her motion synchronized in rhythm.
**Results:** D-9105 produced 27 missed notes, with delayed symptom onset after completing the tune. Subject color change of the skin began a few minutes after the result screen, and was most apparent on the hands and feet, with necrotic lesions being seen clearly within a few minutes. The condition of the subject also deteriorated in the following 12 hours, with the rot spreading up her limbs and into her internal organs. D-9105 was medicinally isolated and treated as the condition kept on worsening. The subject was conscious throughout but was in severe physical and emotional pain. Collapse at the 48-hour point had spread to critical systems and systemic organ failure had ensued. D-9105 succumbed 60 hours post-test. The body was cremated at once to prevent further necrosis transmission.
**Test 4:**
**Subject:** D-1134
**Background:** D-1134, a 25-year-old male and ex-professional Dance Dance Revolution player before imprisonment, was selected to test the potential advantage of SCP-8743 for maximum gaming. The subject appeared confident and excited when he arrived.
**Procedure:** D-1134 was instructed to play at the best level displayed on SCP-8743’s library. The player performed much better than at her best, with fluid movement and precise accuracy of motion throughout the session.
**Results:** D-1134 provided flawless performance with nothing left unplayed. The patient had experienced a sensation of burning heat around his body throughout the song, which was later attributed by medical staff as an aspect of systemic detoxification. Using highly advanced scanning equipment, all toxic parasites, viruses, and bacteria were flushed out of the body of D-1134. In addition, the existing health of the subject to minute chronic infection and genetic deficiencies was overcome. D-1134 failed to develop infection or disease in the observation period of six months, and the laboratory tests were negative for evidence of pathogenic microbes. Subject physical status was improved by quantitative improvement of stamina, strength, and endurance. D-1134's attempts to request a chance to undergo further testing were denied due to SCP-8743's excessive dependence on purification effects.
Further testing is ongoing to understand the full range of SCP-8743's anomalous properties.

User's only edits aside from page creation are renaming the page from "Scp 8743" to "Scp 8743, Necrotic Rhythm Machine", changing the name again to the first one, and changes with edit comment "Fixed few misspellings and pronouns mistakes.": corrected "SCP-9743", changed an instance of "her" to "him" when referring to a D-Class.
They have two comments, the first just "Thank you!" in response to a reader, the other:
