SCP-8121: "The Doll Maker"
Object Class: Apollyon
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-8121 is to be monitored continuously by Mobile Task Force Lambda-12 ("Doll Watchers"). Surveillance is required in all known or suspected locations where an instance of SCP-8121 may manifest. Upon detection, immediate termination of SCP-8121 is mandated, as containment has proven unfeasible at present (see Appendix 1).
If SCP-8121 were allowed to operate unchecked, its effect would gradually spread, eventually transforming the entire human population into instances of SCP-8121-1, potentially leading to the collapse of humanity as we know it. Despite this, full containment remains unfeasible due to the entity's unpredictable nature and resistance to traditional containment methods.
Description: SCP-8121 has been observed in two primary forms: a fully humanoid appearance (designated SCP-8121-A) and a humanoid-squid hybrid (designated SCP-8121-B). SCP-8121-A resembles a human and frequently changes its appearance to that of a prior victim. SCP-8121-B exhibits a humanoid upper body with a squid-like lower half and possesses a dark blue skin tone, though some reports indicate a capacity for color alteration.
SCP-8121 is referred to as "The Doll Maker" due to its tendency to leave victims in a state resembling dolls, designated as SCP-8121-1. SCP-8121 generates SCP-8121-1 by encapsulating the victim with its squid-like appendages, creating a cocoon around the subject. This transformation process requires approximately 72 hours to complete (see Experiment Appendix 1).
Instances of SCP-8121-1 retain the appearance of the victim at the onset of transformation. Each instance appears in a unique dress and matching high heels, occasionally with additional accessories (e.g., purse, jewelry, hats), which vary depending on the transformation’s location. Notably, all instances of SCP-8121-1 have presented as female, regardless of the original victim's gender. In this altered state, SCP-8121-1 instances exhibit a compulsion to form a "bond" with individuals who engage in sexual activities with them, resulting in compliance to their "owner." Experiments involving D-Class personnel have confirmed that the gender of the individual does not affect this bond formation.
Following initial interactions, SCP-8121-1 instances develop a zipper on their back. When unzipped, instances are revealed to be hollow. Further testing has indicated that SCP-8121-1 entities are impervious to physical damage and possess reproductive abilities with bonded individuals, producing two distinct types of offspring:
SCP-8121-1-A: These offspring resemble the appearance of SCP-8121-1 but are incapable of further reproduction. Upon emergence, SCP-8121-1-A instances resemble newborns but quickly develop to an adolescent appearance. Fully developed SCP-8121-1-A instances are permanently marked by a zipper on their back, revealing a hollow interior.
SCP-8121-1-B: These entities are produced in the form of popular dolls, specifically resembling commercially available models such as "Barbie," complete with clothing and accessories. SCP-8121-1-B instances display no further anomalous characteristics beyond their origin.
Two specialized task forces, designated MTF Lambda-13 (“Doll Collectors”) and MTF Lambda-14 (“Doll Hunters”), have been established to neutralize SCP-8121 instances and recover SCP-8121-1. These task forces consist of personnel trained in advanced anti-attraction protocols to ensure effective containment and recovery operations. SCP-8121-1 instances are to be stored in a remote, restricted-access warehouse, with experimental handling limited to researchers with Level 5 (Thaumiel) clearance.
Addendum 1: Containment Breach
Date: 11/16/2007
Three instances of SCP-8121 were contained at Site-REDACTED for experimental purposes. Following three preliminary tests, a containment breach occurred on the night of 14/11/2007, during which two SCP-8121 instances abruptly disappeared from biometric monitoring and escaped without triggering alarms or other security measures.
Experiment Addendum 1: SCP-8121 Testing
Test 1: Observation
SCP-8121 instances were placed in individual containment cells and observed for 72 hours. SCP-8121 demonstrated the ability to alter its appearance to resemble recent victims, using this capacity to taunt researchers by smiling and maintaining eye contact with observation cameras. After 24 hours, SCP-8121 began repeating the phrase, “The shadows are coming, all shall burn.” All assigned personnel underwent mandatory psychological evaluation following the test.
Test 2: Transformation Process
This experiment was conducted with three SCP-8121 instances and repeated twice.
Test 2-A: A female D-Class subject was introduced to each containment cell and positioned at the center. Upon entry, SCP-8121 engaged the D-Class personnel in the transformation process, initiating cocoon formation. The transformation required approximately 72 hours to complete, during which D-Class subjects appeared to lose consciousness. Resultant SCP-8121-1 instances remained in containment for additional observation.
Test 2-B: A male D-Class subject was introduced to each containment cell in the same manner. SCP-8121 initiated an identical transformation process, but the resultant SCP-8121-1 instances presented as female. These entities were retained for continued observation and experimentation.
Test 3: Termination
During a routine observation with hidden cameras, one SCP-8121 instance assumed its true form, shifting from its natural dark blue color to match the white of the containment cell walls. As color transformation progressed, biometric readings began to fade. An armed security team was dispatched, successfully neutralizing SCP-8121 with a single shot to the chest of SCP-8121. Upon termination, SCP-8121's remains disintegrated into a red sand-like substance, which chemical analysis found to be similar to Martian surface dust.
Note: A subsequent field sighting reported an SCP-8121 instance with scar tissue in the exact spot where a prior instance had been shot. MTF Lambda-14 operatives are required to document bullet impact locations in future reports to assess potential regenerative anomalies.
Experiment Addendum 2: SCP-8121-1 Testing
Test 1: Ownership
Six instances of SCP-8121-1 were introduced to a secured testing chamber with three male and three female D-Class personnel. All personnel, save for one individual, engaged in sexual activities with the instances. The unaffected subject was later identified as asexual, thus unaffected by SCP-8121-1's attraction anomaly. This test was repeated three additional times, excluding asexual D-Class personnel. Instances of SCP-8121-1 developed a zipper following this test, signaling a shift to the "ownership" state.
Test 2: Zipper Examination
One male and one female D-Class personnel were instructed to enter an SCP-8121-1 instance by unzipping the back. Scans confirmed that subjects’ bodies conformed entirely to the SCP-8121-1 form, with the male subject reporting no discomfort or awareness of anatomical alterations while within the instance.
Test 3: Bonded Command
The D-Class personnel bonded to the SCP-8121-1 instances during Test 1 were reintroduced, issuing commands to the instances while another subject occupied the SCP-8121-1 suit. Instances complied fully with commands, regardless of occupancy. Sexual activity between bonded D-Class personnel and SCP-8121-1 instances produced offspring: a female D-Class interaction yielded SCP-8121-1-B, while a male D-Class interaction produced SCP-8121-1-A.
Addendum 2: Historical Accounts and Early Reports
Research into SCP-8121 has uncovered records and reports dating back to the mid-19th century, with the earliest confirmed sightings occurring in the 1850s. These historical accounts describe incidents eerily similar to modern encounters with SCP-8121 and SCP-8121-1. Victorian-era police records and local folklore from various European and North American locations detail disappearances followed by sightings of disturbingly lifelike "dolls," often dressed in period-specific attire and found abandoned in areas where the missing individuals were last seen.
Notable cases from this period include references to an elusive “Dollmaker” or “Lady of Many Faces,” a figure reportedly seen wearing the appearance of missing persons. Witnesses described this entity as accompanied by dolls that bore a striking resemblance to former victims, leading to widespread urban legends and local myths about cursed dolls that lured new victims to their doom.
Further investigation into earlier folklore and mythology suggests that SCP-8121 or a related anomaly may have been active even before these documented accounts. Certain indigenous and pre-modern European tales describe shape-shifting entities that leave behind "empty people" or "false women," who appear alive but have no inner substance. This evidence suggests that SCP-8121’s origins could predate recorded history, possibly influencing cultural myths and legends that share unsettling similarities with SCP-8121-1 transformations.
Speculation: Possible Connection to the Yuki-onna
There is ongoing speculation among Foundation researchers that SCP-8121 may have also inspired legends outside of Europe and North America. In particular, certain Japanese folktales surrounding the Yuki-onna, a mysterious, shape-shifting female yokai, bear some resemblance to SCP-8121’s behavior. The Yuki-onna is described as an ethereal woman who appears during snowstorms, often captivating her victims and luring them to their deaths. Some versions of the myth depict her as leaving her victims frozen or “emptied,”like hollow shells, and accounts of her transformative nature bear striking similarities to SCP-8121’s anomalous abilities.
While no concrete evidence has been found linking SCP-8121 to the Yuki-onna legend, the parallels are strong enough to suggest that the myth may have originated from early encounters with SCP-8121. This possibility, combined with similar mythological figures across cultures, hints that SCP-8121’s influence may extend globally and date back far earlier than current records suggest. Further study is required to confirm these connections, but the evidence thus far supports a theory that SCP-8121 has existed long enough to have influenced multiple, distinct cultural traditions.
Public Knowledge of SCP-8121 and SCP-8121-1
The disappearances linked to SCP-8121 have not gone unnoticed by the public. To maintain secrecy, a cover story suggests a serial killer targeting the victims, evading police detection through sophisticated methods. Families of victims are informed that bodies remain withheld as critical evidence in the ongoing investigation. In select cases, false bodies have been returned to prevent a noticeable pattern and thus preserve the Foundation’s secrecy.
