I've been mulling over this case for a bit. For context at the beginning of this post: I think I might be one of the folks who works most with Fish on staff, since we're both nightshift in EU zone for discord critique, and he is on seminars. In recent times I've come to consider him a friend.
As a staffer, I see a lot of good qualities in Fish. He's patient and handles his work well, and took a lot of effort to provide a safe and comfortable environment on critclub (both before and behind the scenes). While a bit more brusque than average, I see him provide a lot of good to the environment he clearly cares about. His more blunt crit approach is something we specify for new users, and it's a fair approach that works well for some crittees. He has his shortcomings and I, among others, have been critical of those. However, as I've worked a lot with him since i joined staff, I've seen him grow and adjust to feedback given to him.
When the staff hat is off, he can go into acting tough. I don't believe he has ill intentions and I think he cares about this community, but it doesn't always come out the right way. I don't believe he intends harm, and the ironic bigotry jokes are fairly common in 19cord under all users (which I'm told 19cord moderation will watch out for more, and I'm glad to hear that). I think he gets read worse than others at times, but I also see him go over the line.
Unfortunately, we can't just judge by intentions, and qualities don't outweigh shortcomings. I've seen him be capable of growth and I hope he's able to continue that path.
With this pattern and the above in mind, I'm in support of demotion.
