Item #: SCP-7146
Object Class: Euclid
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-7146 is contained within a specialized containment chamber located in Zone 3, measuring 6×6×3 meters. The chamber is equipped with environmental sensors to monitor for changes in biological activity indicative of SCP-7146's anomalous effects. Access to SCP-7146 is restricted to personnel with Level 4 clearance, and experiments require prior approval from two Level 4 researchers. Following Incident 7146-A, experimentation on non-Class D personnel is strictly prohibited.
Post-experimental protocols mandate a comprehensive psychiatric and medical evaluation of all test subjects. Subjects found to exhibit any anomalous pathologies, psychological changes, or signs of addiction to the anomalous effects of SCP-7146 are to be quarantined and possibly terminated, depending on the severity of their condition. Documentation of experimental findings must be submitted to Document 7146-2, accessible only to personnel with Level 3/7146 clearance or higher.
Description: SCP-7146 is a granite sculpture standing 153 cm tall (excluding its pedestal), resembling a humanoid figure with pronounced caricature-like facial features, hypertrophied ears, and a complete absence of hair, evoking descriptions of "goblin-like" qualities from observers. The sculpture is in a squatting position, arms extended with palms up, and displaying a wide, malicious grin. It rests on a rectangular granite pedestal, dimensions 1×1.5×0.25 meters, with a small circular depression at the front leading to two grooves.
SCP-7146's immediate vicinity (a radius of three meters) accelerates biological decomposition, fermentation, and decay. The mechanism behind this acceleration remains unexplained.
The primary anomalous effect manifests when a living organism is killed such that its blood flows into the pedestal's depression. Approximately twenty seconds post-mortem, the body undergoes rapid decomposition, sprouting numerous unidentified black fungi emitting a distinct, unpleasant odor. Following full fungal growth, the sculpture's mouth appears to fill with worms.
Individuals responsible for the sacrifice are then compelled to ingest these worms, an act that, while rarely physically harmful, has profound psychological implications. Subjects report acquiring knowledge related to the esoteric "Grotto of Gangrenous God" sect, with insights into its structure, mythology, and rites. The nature of this knowledge varies, with some subjects experiencing it as enlightening or aesthetically valuable, despite its disturbing content.
Addendum 7146-1: Discovery SCP-7146 was located in [REDACTED], within a derelict building previously associated with the "Grotto of Gangrenous God" sect. Despite its significance to the sect, the sculpture was abandoned. An anonymous tip led to its discovery and subsequent containment. The motives behind the abandonment and the identity of the tipster remain subjects of ongoing investigation.
Addendum 7146-2: "The Grotto of Gangrenous God" Further research into the "Grotto of Gangrenous God" has highlighted its central ethos of entropy worship, utilizing anomalous artifacts in rituals believed to bring them closer to their deities. The sect's practices, including self-mutilation and consumption of decay, underscore the dangerous allure of their beliefs and the potential for SCP-7146 to offer insights into their anomalous worldview.
Note: Further experimentation with SCP-7146 is on hold pending review of containment and ethical guidelines, especially concerning the mental health of D-Class subjects used in testing. The potential for SCP-7146 to provide further understanding of anomalous cults warrants cautious continued research.
