Disclaimer, not Disciplinary Staff.
The response here is kind of surprising, given how many other times Kalinin has done this kind of thing in the past. And the way this thread has gone has bothered me enough that I felt like, above everything else, I wanted to make a post about it. Even if I'm supposed to be enjoying my time on the beach sipping martinis before M16 brings me in on my next mission. I don't wanna make this a reply to others, and instead its own post, so:
He's been on the site for long enough to know that the proper call would be to point it out to the mods, not directly insult the user himself.
Which they didn't.
He's been around long enough to know what our Criticism Policy is, and he's certainly been staff long enough to know what is acceptable and what isn't, and he's made enough posts of these nature to warrant concern, rather than outright dismissal because Dave was being an ass. If anything, the fact that Dave was an ass should make us less dismissive of the whole situation. If you want to talk about how Dave should be disciplined formally, post in his 05 thread.
Obviously, the warning for Kalinin has been rescinded, so we can't go take it back without looking like asses, but this is not the first time he's toed the line regarding the Criticism Policy when making his posts. I don't get the justification that since Dave made some kind of zero-point passive-aggressive attack, Kalinin could just blast him back? He obviously knows that if a user is breaking a rule, that staff should be alerted, not to blast them back. He's addressed these exact issues before as staff. To be honest, I see that he has little in the right here. Because this could have been avoided if he popped into site17 to give a heads-up to staff that maybe we should tell Dave to cut that shit out?
It doesn't sit right with me that he is essentially getting a pass for what we would be warning other users over (and rightfully so). Because, in the sole context of this specific instance, I don't care that Dave was being a shit. Kalinin was also being a shit in response. In the grander context of his posting, this indicates a pattern that, if not often done, at least warrants some sort of watch. And, again, if we wish to address the issue of Dave being a shithead, address it in, you know, his thread, not Kalinin's. And I feel like that the general consensus in this thread amongst staff posting so far is different enough from what I think that I can't sit by and wait another month when discussion here is obsolete.
