Item #: SCP-7253
Object Class: Safe
Special Containment Procedures:
SCP-7253 is to be stored in a standard containment locker at Site-83. Access to SCP-7253 is restricted to personnel with Level 2 clearance and above. Any testing involving SCP-7253 must be
approved by Senior Researcher James Mercer. During transport, SCP-7253 is to be handled with insulated gloves to prevent accidental activation. The personnel who interact with SCP-7253-1 must attend a psychiatric evaluation after every interaction.
___
Description:
SCP-7253 is a vintage handheld mirror, approximately 20 cm in height and 10 cm in width, with an ornate silver frame. The glass of the mirror shows signs of age, including minor scratches and discoloration, but otherwise remains intact. Engraved on the back of the frame is an inscription in an unknown language, which does not correspond to any known script or cipher.
The anomalous properties of SCP-7253 manifest when a living human being makes direct skin contact with the frame while looking into the mirror. Upon activation, the mirror will display an image of the user in an alternate reality, referred to as SCP-7253-1. The user remains in control of their actions and can interact with the environment in SCP-72531 as if physically present.
Observations have shown that SCP-7253-1 typically mirrors the real world with some variations. Common differences include altered geography, different historical events, and the presence of anomalous entities. The connection between the user and SCP-7253-1 is severed when the user breaks eye contact with the mirror or releases their grip on the frame.
During expeditions, 2 feet tall humanoid figures had been seen, also known as SCP-7253-2. Interacting with them would result in immediate sharp heart pain, and extreme sadness. After interacting with SCP-7253-2, the affected individual must be extracted from SCP-7253. Upon terminating contact with SCP-7253, extreme disorientation and psychosis will occur, needing a psychiatric consultation and confinement.

Addendum XXXX-1: Exploration Log
Exploration Date: 31/01/2024
Subject: D-83452
Foreword: D-83452 was instructed to explore SCP-7253-1 for a duration of 10 minutes while maintaining contact with SCP-7253. Communication was established via a two-way radio.
<Log Begin>
D-83452: [Looking into the mirror] I see… it's like my room, but different. The walls are blue instead of white.
James: Understood. Please proceed to explore further.
D-83452: [Steps away from the mirror while keeping eye contact] The hallway looks normal. Wait, there's a painting here that's not in my cell.
James: Can you describe the painting?
D-83452: It's a landscape, looks like a forest with a large, glowing tree in the middle. Weird.
James: Continue to explore.
D-83452: [Walks down the hallway] The doors are all in the same place. I'm opening the one to the common area… What the hell? There are people here, but they look… off. Their eyes are glowing blue.
James: Do they seem aware of your presence?
D-83452: No, they're just sitting there, staring at the walls. Creepy.
James: Return to the facility.
D-83452: [Returns to Site-83] I'm back. Breaking eye contact now.
<Log End>
Closing Statement: D-83452 reported feeling a mild disorientation upon returning to the normal reality but experienced no lasting effects. Further explorations are required to map and understand the nature of SCP-7253-1.

Addendum 7253-3: Incident Report
Date: 07/02/2024
Location: Site-83
Involved Personnel: Researcher Dr. Elena Rodriguez, Security Officer Johnathan Michaels
Description: On 07/02/2024, Researcher Dr. Elena Rodriguez requested permission to conduct a solo exploration of SCP-7253-1 for research purposes. After entering SCP-7253-1, the radio connection between Site-83 and Dr. Elena Rodriguez suddenly cut.
After several hours without contact, Security Officer Johnathan Michaels was dispatched to investigate. He discovered Dr. Rodriguez unconscious in front of SCP-7253, with her hand still in contact with the mirror's frame. Despite attempts to rouse her, Dr. Rodriguez remained unresponsive.
Upon awakening, Dr. Rodriguez displayed severe disorientation and confusion. She exhibited symptoms of psychosis, claiming to have experienced traumatic events within SCP-7253-1. She claimed she approached tall humanoid figures, which brought her intense heart pain and sadness. Her mental state deteriorated rapidly, necessitating immediate psychiatric evaluation and containment.
Dr. Rodriguez's condition has since stabilized under medical care, but she remains adamant about her experiences within SCP-7253-1, insisting they were real. Her claims are inconsistent with previous exploration logs and raise concerns regarding potential long-term psychological effects associated with prolonged exposure to SCP-7253-1.
Closing Statement: This incident highlights the unpredictable nature of SCP-7253 and underscores the importance of strict adherence to containment and exploration protocols. Further research into the psychological effects of SCP-7253-1 is warranted to mitigate potential risks to personnel involved in future explorations.
