We recently realized that it is A: possible to geolocate a user in wikidot and B that we don't formally prohibit that. As such we want to explicitly prohibit that. While we were at it there was a minor clarification I wanted to add to the renaming articles policy.

Under HTML and Javascript

Any content that geolocates or otherwise reveals information about a user beyond their wikidot name and other wikidot information is strictly banned

Under Renaming SCPs

You are allowed to move SCPs into non SCP urls, EG moving SCP-XXXX to SCP-XXXX-arc after a rewrite of your own article.

You may only move a non SCP into the most recent series.

This discussion will go on for one week.

In Tech Chat, I had a different suggestion. Since we already have the Technical Content policy which has this section, meant to prohibit privacy issues with interactive pages:

Any HTML or javascript in a page may not take actions outside the context of an article (e.g. sending unsolicited emails or accepting payment), transmit information about the reader, or perform an irreversible action. Cookies and local storage are permitted if they are strictly necessary for the proper behavior of the page.

We can make this amendment to clarify that the clause:

receive, process, or transmit about the reader (including but not limited to IP address, user agent, or location)

I should clarify that I believe that geolocating users is already prohibited based on the current policy wording, but I support a measure to clarify it.

I would cut the example out. Moving something after a rewrite isn't the only reason someone might want to do this. Just moving to a tale or goi-format would also be a valid reason and this implies that you can only move it after rewriting your SCP.

I would keep the example and just expand it since it's not plainly obvious that any user is allowed to 'arc' an article they've written. I'd just amend the statement to:

EG moving "SCP-XXXX" to "any-other-title" in cases where the SCP is being made into a tale or GOI format, or moving "SCP-XXXX" to "SCP-XXXX-arc" after a rewrite of your own article.
