Of note, the initial version of the text had the sections out of order compared to the standard template, and also included a "Behavior" section and was missing the number designation section. The author has no forum history, and their only edits to the page were adding the "scp" tag, removing the tag, and blanking the page.

SCP-8988 is a large, ornate mirror measuring 2 meters in height and 1.5 meters in width. The frame of the mirror is intricately carved with symbols and patterns reminiscent of ancient occult designs. When a person stands in front of SCP-8988 and looks into it, they will see their reflection as usual. However, upon closer inspection, the reflection begins to exhibit anomalous properties. The reflection will begin to distort and morph, taking on a shadow-like form that does not match the individual's physical appearance. This shadow figure shows no distinguishable features and appears as a silhouette.
Behavior:
SCP-8988's anomalous effects become more pronounced the longer an individual gazes into it. After approximately 30 seconds, the shadow figure within the reflection will detach itself from the mirror and manifest in the physical world as a separate entity. This shadow entity, designated SCP-8988-1, is intangible and lacks any discernible physical form. It moves with fluidity and has been observed to exhibit predatory behavior.
SCP-8988-1 will attempt to latch onto any nearby light source, causing the area to darken as the light is absorbed. It has been observed to move through walls, floors, and other solid objects effortlessly. SCP-8988-1 seems to be drawn to individuals who have spent an extended period looking into SCP-8988, and it will actively pursue and attempt to make physical contact with them.
Containment Procedures:
SCP-8988 is to be contained in a secure containment chamber that is to be kept completely dark at all times.
