I tried to post this over at reddit. Got my butt kicked from r/SCP for violating the no AI rule. Got my post on r/ChatGPT deleted for no reason whatsoever. Not even a message explaining why. I asked at r/findareddit to help me find a valid sub, but both of my attempts were flagged as NSFW by the automod and deleted. Absolutely nothing in my posts contained a swear word or image. All I can think of is it got triggered because my post mentioned AI.

So I'm creating a thread here in the official SCP forum for AI generated works. Not just for me, but for everyone. I want a place to share SCP related stuff that is either partially or wholly created with AI. Unlike the mods running the r/SCP sub, yes AI can be creative. It is fun to work with and I enjoy working with AI every day. If you don't like it, build a bridge.

Received the following response to the revoke PM:

Using AI is not theft. The AI learns patterns from other works but it doesn't steal those works when it generates new content. This is the same way that human minds work. You can't learn to read without first reading books. You can't learn to paint without watching someone else paint, and learning different styles of painting from other artists.

It's shameful that your community dogpiles into my thread, shouting THEFT! at me, but couldn't actually point to anything in my post that actually cosntituted theft. Because it was all original work.

This is just knee-jerk extremism in response to the latest tool for artistic creativity that opens the door to many more people to express themselves. I'm old enough to remember the same thing happening with Photoshop back in the 90's. Artists pushed back against it, saying digital art wasn't real art and that people who use it aren't real artists.

Well now in 2024 many colleges teach digital art classes and digital art is accepted as real art. The same thing will happen with AI. It's just a matter of time. I've seen a lot of beautiful artwork created with Stable Diffusion. I dare anyone to look at the images I generate and show me an existing artwork that it was "stolen" from. Nobody can. This tired argument is just an excuse to hate on something different.

I'm just sad that most communities on the Internet are anachronistic and reject the use of new technology and methods. I wish this wasn't the case.

I have not responded. Disc team, please weigh in.

ETA: Noting that Kufat was going to send a message to the user asking whether they're willing to obey the community rules regarding AI going forward. As of 03/30/24 I believe the message was sent?

I'd suggest asking whether they're willing to abide by the rule despite disagreeing with it. If they say yes, they get the standard opportunity to rejoin the site after the first revoke. If not, I don't think it would make sense to allow them to rejoin.

I understand you disagree with the SCP Foundation Wiki rule regarding AI-generated content. Given that, are you willing to abide by the rule?
