The Glasgow New Music Expedition (website here, Twitter here) will be performing several pieces of music at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland's PLUG music festival this year (some more details here). After doing some searching, I haven't been able to find any information on how they intended to license or attribute these pieces of music, so I sent them a message asking what their plans are for this.

Contents of the message

Hello GNME,

My name is [My Name] (aka GreenWolf), and I am a member of the SCP Foundation Wiki Licensing Experts Team. We recently learned that your group will be performing at PLUG 2016, and that several of your pieces have been based on the works of the SCP Foundation. Don't worry, this isn't a cease and desist letter — we love it when people create cool new art with our works — we just want to ask you a few questions about how you're planning on licensing these pieces, as we haven't been able to find any information about this online.

In case you didn't already know, the SCP Foundation Wiki, and all of the works on it (with a very small number of exceptions) are licensed under Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0 (CC-BY-SA 3.0). CC-BY-SA 3.0 allows anyone to share and modify works licensed under it, as long as they also license their derivative works under CC-BY-SA 3.0 and give credit to the original author.

If you could tell us what you're planning to do to meet these licensing and attribution requirements, that would be great. If you have any questions or concerns about this, please feel free to ask them in a reply to this email, and myself or another member of licensing team will attempt to address them.

Is that actually something we should care about?

their brilliant young conductor, Jessica Cottis, returns to Plug for a programme of new works influenced by the SCP Foundation, a fictional X-files type of organisation, with stories created through collaborative creative fiction writing.

That's the only mention of us I could find. Being "influenced" doesn't fall into the definition of a derivative work. Unless they are actually using the material from the wiki (which I doubt, considering how we don't have much original music on the site), they should be fine to be influenced by us. Do we even know if their works have lyrics in them?

While I didn't manage to turn up much in my digging, I did find manage to find this blog from one of their members, which gives the name of the piece they're playing (the piece is titled SCP-1965). Which says to me that it's probably less "inspired by" and more "based on".

Either way, the reason for contacting them is to get the info we need to make a call on whether we need to take action regarding this or not.

Edit: Also, this image on their twitter, which they're using in their advertising.
