Do we add the following to site rules:

Articles primarily composed of AI-generated text are not allowed. The use of tools which may use AI or AI-adjacent scripting in its operation (such as Grammarly, DeepL or GPT for translation) to assist with grammar, critique, translation and idea generation are also allowed.
Staff may have to determine on a case-by-case basis whether a specific article should be considered AI-generated. Some existing works which have used AI-generated text may be allowed as well, at staff discretion.

Secondly do we add the following caveat to the previous rule

AI-generated text may be used in a supplementary fashion as long as the significant majority of the content is written by a human.

Thirdly do we grandfather in scp-6973 which was written by GPT-3 along with the Botnik written articles ( SCP-\̅\̅\̅\̅-J, The Great Hippo's Proposal (feat. PeppersGhost), and Pounded in the Butt by the Screaming Gristle Beacon from Site-Everything ), in the event this is declined we will send a notice to all relevant authors for the option to rewrite before deletion to remove the offending content.

I feel that in the past, AI-generated text was enough of a creative novelty to warrant its inclusion on the wiki. However, I think allowing people to have sections of their article written by GPT (or anything else) is a bad idea - If people want to mimic AI text generation they should just write it themselves, in the same way that one would mimic the style of a human author.
Fine with the use of these tools for proof-reading and translation, but as with AI art I think we should remain a place for human creativity.

I'm ambivalent on the partial clause. I feel like people can mimic the style of ai written text if they want to, but I also see the utility of using partial generation. So I have no strong opinion in either direction.

Small note: if the Grandfather clause is put into place, we should be ready to handle users asking why those articles were acceptable but ChatGPT-generated ones are not. Flops already made this distinction in the previous discussion, but let’s all familiarize ourself with the lingo on that one should people ask about it.

I'd rather not see the site become a place welcoming of people using generative software to farm engagement, as has become an issue with other communities (typically dealing with visual mediums, but my point still stands). The wiki should be a reflection of the authors, not a reflection of someone having half an idea and rerolling a software output until they get something that could pass as reasonable. Though I don't really see much in the way of pro-AI sentiment here, at least in terms of the first vote, so this reasoning was sort of pointless. Regardless, I wanted to explain my reasoning.

As for the partial caveat, I think this opens staff up to a lot of major headaches in the future of defining what is and isn't "partial." Aside from that, while this may be pessimistic, I think it more likely that people would use this as a shortcut rather than a feature. I think authors would be more likely to use AI to generate, say, containment procedures because they can't think of how to put it rather than something unique in the article. In the rare case where the autor would want AI to add to their article, I think there are ways to make up for that or mimic generative text.

With the grandfather clause, I simply don't see a reason we should get rid of articles for a rule that came into effect after they were posted. Ex post facto laws and all that.
