Winter Promotions 2023
See Promotions-Policy for how promotions are to be handled.
A note: This is the largest group of promotion candidates that we as staff have ever put forward. There are 24! If you haven't already, please take the time to familiarize yourself with all of the candidates.
These are votes of confidence. If you are unfamiliar or on the fence about someone, vote NO or Abstain. Only vote yes if the candidate has your confidence and you genuinely feel that they are ready for promotion.
Please post even if you are abstaining from voting. Staff may abstain from voting on any individual votes.
This promotion vote will end in:
Operational Staff Voting:
This is an open vote for operational staff and above.
Below is a group of suggestions regarding JUNIOR STAFF who Team Captains have nominated to be voted upwards to OPERATIONAL STAFF. Please read the commentary provided in order to help your judgement regarding these staff. If you feel they have displayed readiness, vote yes. If they are not ready, vote no; please explain your reasoning.
Junior Staff Member: | Alexander the Jar |
Captain/Team: | MAST (Siddartha Alonne & torcsandantlers) |
Why: | Alexander has been a consistent and productive JS for over a year. They contribute to O5 Updating, are a proactive presence in Sandbox Cleaning, has summarized more than 100 tales for Collections, and is always ready to pitch in when work arrises. They're consistently involved in discussion with staff in general about ongoing site events and site policy. They've grown and matured a lot during their time as JS. |
Optional areas of improvement: | Keep your work consistent, but don't overwork yourself. |
Junior Staff Member: | BattleblockB0ss |
Captain/Team: | Internet Outreach (Yossipossi & UncertaintyCrossing) |
Why: | BattleBlockB0ss has been an eager and helpful member of the Reddit team, displaying consistent dedication and working diligently on moderating the subreddit. Beyond just the Reddit, they have also shown initiative while interacting with staff, participating in multiple teams. |
Optional areas of improvement: | Block does a lot of things on staff, and has burned out before. It would be prudent for them to pace themselves more in terms of the work they do. |
Junior Staff Member: | BattleblockB0ss |
Captain/Team: | IRC Critique (Marceline_Raynes) |
Why: | I'm putting up Battleblockboss because of their resourcefulness and general competence as a HOP in critters. They're very skilled at the critting process, and patient with newbies as well, which I think is a crucial skill to have as a member of the crit team. |
Optional areas of improvement: | N/A |
Junior Staff Member: | BattleblockB0ss |
Captain/Team: | Discord Critique (Pedagon) |
Why: | BattleblockB0ss is an active member of crit both in Discord forums and on the policy side of crit team, offering both meta critique and in-depth concept crit on a regular basis. They have a very good mind for what critique should look like both as a staff team and as a service to the members of the wiki. I am confident that they will make a fantastic OS and will engage with policy openly and honestly. |
Optional areas of improvement: | I would like to see BattleblockB0ss engage more in the general writing channels in order to give their perspective as an experienced critter to those who are just starting the writing process. |
Junior Staff Member: | cdithink |
Captain/Team: | Discord Critique (Pedagon) |
Why: | Anyone who engages with the Discord knows who CD is and how much work they do in a moderation and critique staff capacity. CD brings a deep knowledge of writing that they happily share with new authors whenever the chance comes up. Where CD shines, however, is in the critique moderation channels during discussions of how discord critique could be improved or in conversations of how to work with particularly difficult users effectively. |
Optional areas of improvement: | I would like to see CD return to doing more directed critique in the discord and engaging directly with authors more, as they had done effectively in the past. |
Junior Staff Member: | DrRevan |
Captain/Team: | Forum Critique (OriTiefling) |
Why: | DrRevan has been an amazingly impressive new member of the Forum Crit team. His work is consistent and solid, having stepped up to help keep the forums under control during the holiday season when most of the team was on hiatus. If I could promote Revan directly to moderator right now I would! |
Optional areas of improvement: | N/A |
Junior Staff Member: | GlassAutomaton |
Captain/Team: | Discord Critique (Pedagon) |
Why: | GlassAutomaton is a very recent addition to discord critique staff but in the short time they have shown a promising approach to being staff in a way that I feel would make them an effective OS. GlassAutomaton is always willing to jump in to policy discussions and is very helpful with giving their opinions and knowledge when changes to discord critique team is being discussed. |
Optional areas of improvement: | GlassAutomaton’s critique has slowed down recently, although not enough to make me reconsider this promotion opportunity, so I hope that you will return to doing regular critique once you are able to. |
Junior Staff Member: | Guezma |
Captain/Team: | Internet Outreach (Yossipossi & UncertaintyCrossing) |
Why: | Guezma has been a consistent and resourceful member of the reddit team. They have consistently maintained the Reddit, and bring up posts they aren't sure how to handle in order to deal with them properly. Their work has been useful and productive, and they have been continually improving over time. |
Optional areas of improvement: | Guezma has had some difficulty with public-facing messages in the past, but they are continuously improving and handling sensitive situations with more care. |
Junior Staff Member: | Harmacy |
Captain/Team: | Discord Critique (Pedagon) |
Why: | Harmacy is much like cdithink in that they are a welcoming and well known face on discord in the critique channels and beyond. Harmacy has a particular fascination with policy and doing anything they can to improve the way critique is approached on discord, even if they are sometimes frustrated with the speed of the process. Harmacy will make for a fantastic OS as the ability to vote on new policy will work with their strengths while also serving to support their growth of writing new policy. |
Optional areas of improvement: | I would like to see harmacy do more of the day-to-day work as a critter on discord and jump in more to crit new authors, especially in the idea critique channel. |
Junior Staff Member: | LORDXVNV |
Captain/Team: | Community Outreach (WhiteGuard) |
Why: | LORD has been my longest-standing section header for CO despite being a junior staff member. LORD has been involved with the planning, organization, follow-up, and execution of surveys and the delivery of charts and other data for display in our monthly Site News. LORD has shown consistent work over a long time and attention to detail regarding the work produced. The culmination of this work and the work of the team can be seen in the most recent annual survey which I believe to have been a big success. I have confidence that LORD will continue to grow as a staffer and has already become a leader for my team. |
Optional areas of improvement: | Due to the nature of the team, it is natural to slow down after the annual survey has been produced. I would like to make sure that we stay on target with continuing our work even during this "offseason" and as the co-leader of the team, I will look to you to continue to train and lead. |
Junior Staff Member: | Lt Flops |
Captain/Team: | Technical (stormbreath & aismallard) |
Why: | This is Flops's second time as a Junior Staff member on the Tech Team, having worked with us in the past as a tagger, before it was parceled off to MAST. Since her second time joining, she has been one of the most dependable and reliable members of the team, experienced with tag approvals, CSS design and improvements, and Wikidot formatting as needed. She more than enough shows the necessary behavior for Operational Staff, and her promotion would allow her to handle the review of CSS Themes, an area in which the Tech Team is somewhat lacking. |
Optional areas of improvement: | N/A |
Junior Staff Member: | Mooagain |
Captain/Team: | IRC Critique (Marceline_Raynes) |
Why: | I'm putting up Mooagain because of his diligent crit work on the daily in critters. They're constantly giving their best work out there, and I can see that everytime I check critters to see whats going on. Mooagain has helped a LOT of people in their time here, myself included. |
Optional areas of improvement: | I cant think of any areas of improvement (yet!) |
Junior Staff Member: | Nipixel_Paxel |
Captain/Team: | MAST (Siddartha Alonne & torcsandantlers) |
Why: | Nipixel_paxel has been a tagging machine - more than 100 pages tagged since they began with MAST in June of 2022. They've also been a good contributor to O5 updating. We believe this type of good, consistent work deserves recognition and promotion. |
Optional areas of improvement: | We'd like to see you participate a little more in staff discussion. |
Junior Staff Member: | PlaguePJP |
Captain/Team: | Forum Critique (OriTiefling) |
Why: | Plague's work has largely been behind the scenes, but he is easily out most active Forum Crit Flight commander. He's done great work in mentoring new critters by running a flight nearly every month. I believe it would be a mistake to lose him from our team! |
Optional areas of improvement: | I have already spoke with him regarding feedback, but it's mostly related to visible activity and communication wrt crit requests. Aside from that I think Plague is an excellent candidate for OpStaff. |
Junior Staff Member: | TheyCallMeTim |
Captain/Team: | Community Outreach (WhiteGuard) |
Why: | Similar to what I said about LORD can apply to Tim as well. Although Tim has not been around as long as LORD, their work during the annual survey cannot be ignored. A lot of the new features, charts, and so forth produced in the survey were the direct handiwork of Tim. Despite a short time span, Tim is one of my best Data Analysis staffers and overall one of my best JS, and I believe they have earned their spot on staff as OS. |
Optional areas of improvement: | Continue to look for survey and data opportunities to help produce content that would interest and inform our user base. This team is still new and is trying to spread its wings. Help them take off. |
Junior Staff Member: | Voiiiii |
Captain/Team: | MAST (Siddartha Alonne & torcsandantlers) |
Why: | Voiiiii has been a consistent MAST member since joining. She's been a good and accurate tagger, and has been one of the most responsive members of O5 Updating with a good attention to detail. We believe this type of good, consistent work deserves recognition and promotion. |
Optional areas of improvement: | Slow down and make sure you approach problems with a full knowledge of the situation. You've got the passion, just make sure you don't act too quickly. |
To Moderator:
This is an open vote for operational staff and above.
Below is a suggestion regarding an OPERATIONAL STAFF MEMBER whose Captain has nominated to be voted upwards to MODERATOR. Please read the commentary provided in order to help your judgement regarding these staff. If you feel they have displayed readiness, vote yes. If they are not ready, vote no; please explain your reasoning.
Operational Staff Member: | Hexick |
Captain/Team: | MAST (Siddartha Alonne & torcsandantlers) |
Why: | Hexick has been a member of staff for quite some time and has done consistent work the whole time. They're active on many teams, but MAST is putting them forward for recognition based on their general staff duties as well as their work on our team. They've demonstrated their responsibility and trustworthiness in multiple regards, and has had level-headed and productive contributions to policy discussion. We're putting them forward for Moderator so that they can assist with deletions, provide unlocks as are often requested in #site-17, and better assist with forum moderation. |
Optional areas of improvement: | N/A |
Operational Staff Member: | psychicprogrammer |
Captain/Team: | MAST (Siddartha Alonne & torcsandantlers) |
Why: | Psychic has been great at providing solutions and proposed efficiencies to staff processes. There contributions to staff have been great and varied - staff work, policy discussion, and policy proposals. We're putting them forward for Moderator so that they can continue their work with deletions in a greater capacity. |
Optional areas of improvement: | N/A |
Operational Staff Member: | Ralliston |
Captain/Team: | Licensing (CityToast) |
Why: | To say Ralliston is a hard worker is an understatement. He carries the brunt of Licensing's efforts in licenseboxing, and his proof of his steady work can be viewed here: http://scp-sandbox-3.wikidot.com/ralliston He paces himself through all his endeavors, which is nothing to scoff at given the history of the team in question, and a promotion to moderator feels natural insofar as moderator tools allowing him a wider array of articles he can access. |
Optional areas of improvement: | A lot of his work has been centered on licenseboxing. I spoke with him for a bit, and we've agreed they could do with expanding what duties they take on. |
Operational Staff Member: | Rounderhouse |
Captain/Team: | MAST (Siddartha Alonne & torcsandantlers) |
Why: | RounderHouse has a great mind for the technical capabilities for what can be done in Navigation as well as how to achieve it. His recent work on the redesign of the front page was great and stands as an example of his contributions toward staff. His input on policy and staff discussions have been insightful and consistent. We're putting them forward for Moderator to allow him the tools to better perform duties in making navigational and design changes. |
Optional areas of improvement: | N/A |
Operational Staff Member: | Uncle Nicolini |
Captain/Team: | Community Outreach (WhiteGuard) |
Why: | Nico is one of my best CO staffers. When it comes to Site News, Nico can do it all (and sometimes does it all in dire situations). Nico has done an excellent job in keeping the Site News consistent and has also been a help with the overall team during contests, events, recruiting, and other big decisions that have come by. I have the utmost confidence in Nico taking this step forward. |
Optional areas of improvement: | Always try to push forward and keep this team afloat. Innovation is key for a team like ours and as a leader of the team, I will need help with this. |
Operational Staff Member: | Uncle Nicolini |
Captain/Team: | Forum Critique (OriTiefling) |
Why: | Much like Revan, Nico has been an amazingly consistent and solid member of our team. Together with Revan they kept the forums functional during the holidays, and on top of their staff work Nico has continued to offer meaningful, solid feedback to new authors. Forum Crit needs as many members with moderator perms as we can get due to the work we do, and giving Nico those perms would help cut down on the workload our current moderators face by a notable amount. |
Optional areas of improvement: | N/A |
Operational Staff Member: | Uncle Nicolini |
Captain/Team: | MAST (Siddartha Alonne & torcsandantlers) |
Why: | Nico has provided excellent, conscientious work as a staffer. They've been productive in policy discussion and has a wealth of knowledge of site culture and history. There work in deletions has been particularly consistent and helpful. We're putting them forward for Moderator to allow them the tools to continue their work with deletions in a greater capacity. |
Optional areas of improvement: | N/A |
Operational Staff Member: | Woedenaz |
Captain/Team: | Technical (stormbreath & aismallard) |
Why: | Woedenaz has been an invaluable member of the team throughout his involvement with Black Highlighter, a critical site resource. Not only is his expertise with the theme essential for reviewing new themes that use the theme, it is also of immense help updating Black Highlighter themes when other parts of the site ecosystem change. His assistance with other CSS matters, including on the base site theme, are also of immense help. Woedenaz would benefit massively from moderator permissions, as theme: pages are, by default, locked to only allow edits from the page creators. Giving Woedenaz moderator would allow him to edit these pages, and is necessary for him to assist the team's operations.y. |
Optional areas of improvement: | N/A |
To Admin:
This is an open vote for operational staff and above.
Below is a suggestion regarding a MODERATOR who the admin team has nominated to be voted upwards to ADMIN. Please read the commentary provided in order to help your judgement regarding these staff. If you feel they have displayed readiness, vote yes. If they are not ready, vote no; please explain your reasoning.
Staff Member: | Cassandra_Prime does not match any existing user name |
Captain/Team: | Admin Team |
Why: | Cassandra has been an active presence in Policy discussions since she became junior staff. During this time she has offered input and feedback into policy discussions, policy proposal formulation, and policy votes in a way we typically would expect from an extant administrator. Cass consistently demonstrates thoroughness in thinking about how to craft and implement policy in a way that is both productive, and considers particular problems or angles, demonstrating an awareness of the need to future proof policy. In policy discussions she exemplifies a remarkable levelheadedness, not allowing her passion or emotion to disrupt discussion, and when she does feel like her ability to contribute is compromised by emotional investment she recuses herself. Importantly, Cass demonstrates an exceptional knowledge of our extant policies and policy structures, which she uses to advocate for productive change through policy as well as examining structure weaknesses of our extant system. For these reasons Cass is being put up for promotion to Administrator. |
Optional areas of improvement: | N/A |
Staff Member: | HarryBlank |
Captain/Team: | Admin Team |
Why: | Harry Blank is a staff member who initially signed on for work through collections, through which they have catalogued a remarkable number of tales. From that work they spring boarded to joining other staff teams where they have consistently contributed to staff projects. Harry provides valuable input from the perspective of someone who has carefully evaluated the policy and issues at hand, offering valuable insight that the individuals in the minutiae of the proposal/discussion may lose sight of. Harry has shown exemplary discipline in tackling large long term tasks, and consistently chipping away at them over extended periods of time. The most notable example of this is collections, but he's also demonstrated this in other staffwork. Finally, Harry has demonstrated remarkable personal growth since joining staff, especially in the past year/year and a half towards negative or critical feedback. For these reasons we feel Harry Blank is ready to be promoted to administrator. |
Optional areas of improvement: | N/A |
Staff Member: | OriTiefling |
Captain/Team: | Admin Team |
Why: | OriTiefling was initially recruited to MAST under the banner of collections but quickly branched out to other teams, nominally both criticism teams. Ori has been a consistent voice of reason in policy discussions, often standing to give input from the community and attempting to communicate and reach across the aisle for compromise in situations of divided opinion. Ori does excellent work for both Discord and Forum crit, often taking on large numbers of threads themselves while proving to be exceptionally good at giving workable feedback. This gives them robust insight into the current challenges of criticism on the wiki, as well as intimate knowledge of crit processes as they are currently a VC of Crit team and are in charge of Forum crit under Crit Team's umbrella. Ori's previous experiences with moderation/administration of large communities is also clearly visible in how they conduct themselves as a staff member. For these reasons, we believe OriTiefling is ready to be promoted to administrator. |
Optional areas of improvement: | N/A |
Vote YES or NO. Someone who you are ambivalent to should not receive your vote of confidence for staff, thus abstain or no. If you don't know who someone is, then I invite you to educate yourself and get to know their work before voting.
EDIT:
On February 16th, we were informed by IO Captain Yossipossi that TheeSherm wished to withdraw their candidacy for promotion, because of this TheeSherm's candidate blurb and listing in the voting block code have been removed. No edits have been made to the votes in comments, so any made before the time of this edit will contain an extra candidate.
