[DISCUSSION] Join the Site

This is a pretty minor change, but since we created the Guide for Joining it's a little odd that it's separate to the actual "Join the Site" page, it means that people have to move back and forth to get all of the information required.

I think it would be much simpler to merge the two pages, like so: Join the Site.

I've moved things around a little so that the first tab explains everything (and contains the site password) while the second tab is where you go to actually join. I wasn't planning on holding a vote on this since we're just moving things around to simplify them, but let me know if you have objections to this or suggestions for changes to make.

EDIT: All links that I am aware of are in the Basic Guides (Newcomers, Reading, and Writing) and FAQ, all will need to be changed. Archiving the original seems unnecessary since the content is just being moved, setting up a redirect from guide-to-joining to system:join could still be worthwhile.

Assuming there are no objections, after the timer is up I'll make the changes to the system:join page.

I will then go through all of the basic guides and backlinks to replace links to the guide-to-joining with system:join. It's a relatively new page, so most of the links to it are in the other Guide pages created at the same time (Newcomers, Reading, Writing) or the FAQ.

With Tech Team permission, I also intend to archive the current Guide for Joining, then set up a redirect to ensure any links I've missed (e.g. because they're offsite or on forum posts) go to system:join.

Right, in principle I have no objections (since I brought it up in the first place), but I have a few areas of concerns to note:

• All references/backlinks to Guide for Joining will need to be removed or altered. Have you identified all of them?
• The Guide for Joining page will need to be deleted, archived, or converted to a redirect with Tech permission. Personally support archiving.
• The tabs should be renamed IMO. It's currently too mired in the legacy names. Something like How to Join and Submit, maybe?
• No need for the ToC on both tabs. Get rid of the second one.

I'm pretty sure it's new enough that all the links are in the Basic Guides, I can quite easily go through and replace those.

I would probably convert it to a redirect, archiving honestly seems pointless since all the content is still available, just on a different page.

In favor of the new tab names and dropping the second basic guides box.

I raised some prior concerns, and I think it looks fine overall. Reading over it again, I have a few more points:

Will there be redirects from the old links to the new guide? I think a person visiting the old URL would rather be redirected to the current page than the archived: one.

There is the section "The Wiki & Wikidot" which explains about how Wikidot is distinct, and giving examples of non-SCP-related sites. However there is a section underneath, "Wikidot Is A Platform", which explains the separate membership concept again and mentions some quirks. I feel like there are two approaches to refactoring these sections:

1. The two sections could be merged into one. I think "Wikidot Is A Platform" is the better title between the two. Sentences are reorganized so the duplicate paragraphs are merged and it flows better.
2. The membership related content is moved into the "quirks" section and the username / settings stuff is kept in the other. In this case, the "The Wiki & Wikidot" section (containing username rules etc) should be renamed to something else, maybe "Creating an Account"?

Thanks for pointing these out, the changes have been implemented.

Given the number of edits I've made to the text, I think it will be worth archiving the current guide to joining before setting up the redirect.
